Yeah well see Jackie that’s the trouble you’re still lucid most days. Whereas I’m just day today with the old timers so I really don’t remember I’ve got an excuse. And then I can’t remember whether I use my left hand my right hand. I don’t know if you called out ambisexterous or transgenderous. While we’re on the subject of wood table looks fantastic is it Some old piece of oak from Sherwood Forest or something or one of your old Chardonnay barrels from your winery estate south of France. Actually I don’t think Chardonnays in the south but I do know it’s somewhere in France. Looks like you’ve got some fantastic models you’re working on so I’ll let you get back at it. If I remember to get Wood Tomorrow I’ll be sure to let you know!!!! That’s if I don’t think it’s yesterday.

Charlie , you could have written the scripts for “MONTY PYTHON or “THE GOON SHOW” or even the “TWO RONNIES”——-
Decided to finish a shedload of concepts from under the bench that had languished there forever —that’s what makes it look like ive been super busy.
Still have a trunk to open up. Five years ago o was intending to send it over to my son in florida but the postage was of Fort Knox -eye watering proportions — so it’s still under the bench. Contains around twenty concepts—- they are all finished too.
Just to be clear —i am absolutely gun barrel straight. Bugger the DON’T KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRIED IT , theory. My sainted mother always told me there is only HIMMIN AND HERING —-END OFF.
I always listened to my sainted mother and lived by her rules —old fashioned i know . She would likely spin in her grave if i ever tried anything different.
Table is actually from regular foraging at the car boot sale —-swopped it for a racing ROLLS ROYCE that belonged to HENRY SEAGRAVE .

Celestial table is something i took in a swop—- Swopped a ROLLS ROYCE racer for it .
Turns out its a solid chunk of AMBOYNA from the NARRA TREE . Was covered in treacle Varnish and tar —-needed a couple of days TLC and the WILSON TOUCH. Restores life to PAINTINGS—TABLES and Ladies !!!!!!!!!
Turns out the table is EXHIBITION quality AMBOYNA which retails @ $250 a pound ——table top goes just over 40lbs ???????? Life ca be a stone bitch sometimes .

That’s the pot calling the kettle black! By 79 I had had to quit the outboard tunnel boat racing And own Sponsor an 18 foot Mandela and a 20 foot Rayson craft In the GN Inboard racing class. We were all hanging around Mike Gordon’s restaurant on the 79th St. causeway. Rockies place was just across the bridge and was a fantastic place. I believe that one was franchised and owned by a fellow named Bruce something or another and I believe he owned the one up in Jensen Beach also. Lotta good times back then. Funny story on Rocky he got involved with jeans for a short time we were out on the West Coast To have a GN Race in San Francisco right off the Embarcadero. Anyway Rocky goes out to test and heads out towards the Golden Gate Bridge through a place locally called the coffins patch properly flips his boat and that was the end of Rockys grand national boat racing career.

Well it‘s a long short story—— THE COSWORTH had rattled both OMC and MERCURY’S cage in europe . Coaworth Motors were winning everything —-everywhere ——Cart——F1—- and wasnt too shabby in FI OUTBOARD RACING AS AS AN OZ.
Mercury Racing [HIGH PERF.]. Decided to get Cosworth to send a couple of engineers and stitch the DFV in a KT boat . BENTZ was to be the driver and the place was MIAMI Marine stadium .
BENTZ blew the doors off the class forever - lapping the rest of the field and Fecked the class big time .
Malcolm Tyrell and Ian Hawkins then put together an offshore Race programme using multiple DFV‘S —but thats another short story altogether !!!!!!
Gene—- if you weren’t there —you must have been putting out fires in downtown Miami or some such thing .

Stories like this from Greg Biffle, are conducive to 200 mph Nascar bumper-car racing.
F1 racing on land & water, does not lend itself to this kind of action on the race course.

“THAT KIND OF ACTION“ might not lend itself to the racecourse but ——we are not robots —yes i can give you just a few instances of it in the top end of powerboat racing if you like .
CHRIS BUSH /GUIDO CAPPELINI really got into it in the medical tent in Hamburg after a coming together out on the course —-Chris had Guido by the throat before the pair were separated !!!!
RENATO MOLINARI/MARK WILSON In AURONZO way up in the DOLOMITES—- Mark won the first heat Renato flipped him over in the second . Then ran for his life as Mark chased him down the road — Gorgio picked him up on the back of his motorcycle before any harm was done.
Mark is the quietest man you could wish for —sometimes sh-t happens [unless you are a saint] —thats because we are all human.

Sad to see Pelle Larson has quit his job as bossman at Formula 2, due directly to interference from UIM officials . Guy has been doing the job since PONTIOUS was a Pilate —knew the job backwards —- along comes some jumped up UIM official who knows feck all about anything —and can throw his weight about without fear of being challenged or sacked .!!!!!!!!!
Same thing happened in ABU_DHABI at the race where JOHN HILL lost his life . ROLF FROHLING changed long standing FONDA rules which was the direct result Of one of the worlds most experienced drivers losing his life !!!!!!!!!!!
PELLE LARSON was the first to reach him on that occasion too.
Neither the UIM or the RYA ever even acknowledged the report i submitted ——- about the incompetency and interference of Ignorant UIM officials .
Sorry to say—it hasn‘t changed at all.
I have KNown PELLE LARSON since he first started racing —he is one of the few people in the UIM who really love and understand the sport .
First thing that comes to mind when i think of the UIM is —[B]Incompetent asseholes.

Three days solid work went into this—-over 20 hours labour— Should maybe go to the guy who won the F2 world championship in Lisbon —-except he didnt . Half the field disqualified for various reasons .
Very strange day here for me —lost a full day attending Her Majesty’s funeral.
The whole of europe stopped by to pay their respects .

As my sainted mother used to say,“life goes on“. Life for me will never be the same without HER MAJESTY.
SUPERSHED is like a sh-tHouse —over the years i have learned to put things back in their rightful place and clean up after a days toil. This has not happened over the last couple of weeks , my mind has been full of other things besides concepts .
My body feels older and tired , i dont walk any more, i shuffle. That really does piss me right off. At first i put it down to shuffling round the Workshop carefully to avoid banging into things which causes huge blue blemishes just below the skin !!!!!
I dare not lift my arms above my head as huge batwings hang down below my arm muscles [which are nearly non existent by now] and i feel if i raised my arms and walked any faster than 2 mph i would actually take off.
Suppose i should be grateful that i still have all my faculties intact. I do tend to suddenly stop now and again and wonder what the hell am i looking for . Memory is no better or worse than its ever been [its always been selective ].
Decided to pack a few concepts into a large trunk and send it to Florida to the OFF meeting. As im going to Key West afterwards i thought i would pack in a few offshore concepts . Always Seems to be a few well heeled drunks who i can work a concept into walking round the pits.
Today is big clean up day in the shop—— simply too many tools and discarded abrasive discs everywhere , bottom of a baby‘s perambulator is what I’m thinking. ONIVAR !!!!!!!!

SO, have you called my grand daughter Kate yet to book a slot for the OFF reunion ?????? If you don't have an invite —-you ain‘t going—-simple as that !!!!!!!!!
Believe there are over forty of us congregating in Palm City on the 3rd November for what seems to be a hell of a lot of fun two days.
Wont cost a kings ransom either —- all you have to do is find a place to lay your head for the night - with MOMMABOSS DOING THE COOKING —- there will be some decent fodder available . Listen Jackie I will admit to you being smarter than me just to keep you from going on one of your tirades. The fact that you are clever and smart not necessarily beautiful but creative And haven’t lost all your marbles at your age is a true testament to your clean living and that’s a joke !!!! About 5 years ago, I was in Savannah for the first time. And did what most visitors do, eat downtown at the river-front street restaurants. And the interesting thing, which I have not seen anywhere else, is the balcony restaurants are close to the water.
And when container ships and cruise ships come by, the view is so close, you are like another ship berthed, next to the cruising ship slowly motoring out of dock in the river. Someone on the ship's deck could order a drink, and the restaurant staff could hear them. It was an interesting visual experience.

He‘s heading home tomorrow after a very successful MONTE CARLO BOAT SHOW.
I think MILES JENNINGS got all his sh-t together and did quite well at the last offshore race down in Falmouth Cornwall this weekend.

Milesmaster was the first race boat, that I recall with the Air-Fin running the full length (bow to stern) on the deck.
It was early 1970s at Winderemere. I walked over to the boat, and Freddy told me, he went to an engineer (I don't recall who) and had the aero package designed.
I think the boat was a full tunnel, and not a pickelfork.
However, here is a Milesmaster photo, similar to what I saw.

There wasn‘t a single pickle in europe in 1970 !!!!!!!!
First one i ever saw was a Ron Jones design in Havasu 1971
Freddy was always ahead of the game and saw it there too. Cannot for the life in me remember when he came out with his first pickle . Renato came out with his first around mid 82.
With a name like PICKLEFORK it could only have come from the USA — wasn't such a utensil in Europe called a PICKLE FORK ——it would have been an ONION FORK. Pickle over here was PICCALLILY, you could never pick that up with a two pronged eating iron.
Fairly sure SEEBOLD did a full length airflow. And the angled cutaway sponson !!!!!!

I never had formal training in aerodynamics or fluid flow. If you hang around and observe you can pick up from smarter people in the essence of what works and what doesn’t. Also through experimentation ie: Going ass over tea kettle enough you can learn what works and what doesn’t it’s just a question of being able to survive the experience. If you’re smart enough and tough enough to learn from your mistakes you can get through life and boat racing. Like I’ve said before I was just a local racer hanging around boat racing in Miami for a lot of years. But I was able to absorb and learn a lot from the multitude of fine boat racers in the area. Not to be a little any of the other boat racers in the world of racing with some of the finest we’re good all the local boys from South Florida. Best to everyone.

No such thing as a BORN boat racer —-not even The SEEBOLDS or the WILSONS were born racers —-they all learned the hard way.
All the boat racers i ever knew had a separate life [usually one that funded the habit] we were all apple pie normal regular people .
there were a few well heeled individuals who could afford everything and simply bought the best [just because they could ]. Had the greatest fun of all taking their pants down [coloquilly speaking of course ]
John Nicholsen once bought tenT2‘s and all the spares to go with them—- didnt make him the best racer by any means ——— ive seen bankers and industrialists —-millionaires and paupers all racing together —- boat racing is a level playing field . You either take it in -learn by your mistakes -never ever get it wrong twice or you will not ever make it in the sport which will dominate and rule the rest of your life . Its only the start and finish line are the two constants in boat racing ——-you’re on your own at all points in between.

Yep............never had much respect for those who "bought" their way in to boat racing by writing checks. The "tinkerers" and experimenters were my inspiration. Seebold once asked about something I built for my boat and I replied that I couldn't afford to buy it, so I made it instead.

Still of the opine that Bill Seebold is one of the most iconic HONEST boat builders ever . He has helped more boat racers ——WANNABEES and has beens than any one i ever knew . Mind you GG helped a lot of racers along the way —- he was a bit of an assehole at times — and we did have our differences —but the world‘s a sadder place without him.
But again as i grow older i have to admit that a lot of the guys i fell out with weren’t ALWAYS to blame ——just most of ‚em and most of the time !!!!!!!!!

Dave Burgess was Shakey Bill‘s boatbuilder long before he ever went to work for Fred Miles— was years later he went off on his own and built BURGESS boats .

Imagination + creativity + fabrication = product formula.
&
“Lucky Sperm”.
I think we all can attest, with a limited bankroll, we have devised a homemade tool and/or part. Which is commendable, because we used the product formula.
However, “he is lucky sperm.” This is what a visiting businessman use to tell me about the son of a business owner. At a former place where I worked for years, this business visitor, would relish repeating that the subsequent owner of their company, was going to be owned by the founder’s son.
I believe most of us, including me, have been fortunate in receiving a nominal (some more than others) opportunities/benefits/support from our fathers or other family members. So those given much more, are expected to achieve more. And good for them to prosper. I personally respect all human levels of achievements, regardless of their bank account. (Which encompasses humble beginnings like; Henry Ford, Oprah, JK Rowling, & Sam Walton, to those closer to the lucky sperm influence like; Elon Musk, Bill Gates, & Zuckerberg).

However, Jackie, albeit your children have benefited from your business success. And learned from you, their dad, what tenacity and perseverance will accomplish.
only time i ever heard those two words used together was in a letter of commendation i received from JACQUE and CYRIL BENSTEAD [COMMODORE AND SECRETARY OF THE LMBRC] AFTER WINNING THE THREE HOUR REGENT GOLD CUP. 1966.
They always had a one and a half hour race for all the boats that didnt make the GRAND PRIX.
CHARLIE SHEPPARD was the CARNITI DISTRIBUTER. He asked me to drive the new 55 twin cylinder in the main event and the 40 twin in the supporting event .
I ran well in both events , but the last lap after the finishing flag— the 55 CARNITI chucked the flywheel through the plastic hood and it spun all the way up to the clubhouse steps .
I was awarded the 2nd place in the one and a half hour race and 1st place in the big race —was always over 150 boats entered in the BOAT BUILDERS TRIALS.

So i have to confess ROY , your post brought back memories of some great times i had in the powerboat world .

For some strange reason —as well as turning all my PHOGGIES either upside down —arse backwards or sideways S+F, THEN make em „“UNAVAILABLE“ —just for good measure .
Can any of you whizz pictureographers tell me what the hell is going on !!!!!!!
i am not normally a stupid person——i do not fool about with the i phone when i take a snap —i try to do most horizontal [which is what my granddaughter CASEY said i should do] and sometimes i do it with the said device held in an upright position !!!!!!!! I never turn the camera upside down — so why do the damn phoggies come out upside down and arse backwards ?????? JUST ASKING !!!!!

Always thought FOSTER BROOKS had died —- happy to tell you he‘s alive and well and practising to be a gravedigger at Saint Richards hospital Chichester.
He went out into the hallway —- left the double doors open —— needle in both hands and started his run up ——- SHEEEEEIT——MISSED THE VIEN ——— but i do have great kaliedescope of blue and yellows with touches of pink aound the edges .
Sorry ‚bout that — those damn hard to find little suckers almost disappear completely when you approach a hunnard. And he loaded up the needle for a replay .
Well-as you might guess -im not too enamoured by his antics and told him politely that in all my90years of giving bloods —never ever had they had to try twice . Suppose he was a tad pissed at me — he rammed the aforesaid device into my arm with such force , it came out the other side [just above the elbow —-or so it felt] Result of this little exercise is a REMBRANDT arm —- look closely and you can see THE LAUGHING CAVALIER !!!!!!!!

LOL Veins are like cops. Never around when you need them. Was using my DeWalt cordless cutoff saw the other day to cut steel tubing. One piece took a fall and hit the back of my hand. Ouch! Thought nothing of it and kept on cutting. next thing I know there's a river of blood running over my beautiful yellow DeWalt tool! Hit a vein on the back side of my hand. Messed up my shop like a murder movie. 3 stitches later and wearing a nitrile glove for a week. Thought for sure the ER could fix with a steristrip and Superglue? By the way, SuperGlue and medical grade glue are identical except for set rates. Standard Superglue sets fast and will burn a little but in a pinch you can use it. Turns out that standard Superglue made its first appearance for wound repair by medical units in the Vietnam war.

I GOT MY FIRST ROLEX IN LUGANO IN 1970— sold a lot of product and had a very successful year racing. Phil ROLLA took me to his local entrepreneur who had the ROLEX franchise and the ROLLEI camera dealership . I bought a Rolex submariner — and a small ROLLEI camera . Both were well under £100 .
Next Rolex i acquired was a gold and steel ROLEX DATEJUST in the early 80‘s - i did a swop with a BMW 1200 bike [ one of the nicest bikes i ever owned and took $600 off him to boot ]
Swopped that for a 1962 TRIUMPH 650 THUNDERBIRD with 16 miles on the clock. Which i sold to a Suzuki works driver from NEW ZEALAND . [damned if i can remember his name ] — he started the national motor cycle museum over there . I turned down £3,500 for that bike from P.J. AGG. Most of you will already know when Bedford Davie and Gary Garbrecht decided to have a crack at the world outboard record , boat of choice was a KARELSON HYDRO.
My own point of view is the boat wasnt ever going to go much faster in its [then] present form than it did . Bear in mind speeds of 160mph were being spouted and shouted in the Pro-One series at most meetings so most of the boats were travelling in excess of the then world record speed for an outboard [or so it was claimed].
What’s not generally known is that another craft was in the design stages for a second effort which didnt actually come to fruition .
Here‘s my take on what „“MIGHTABEEN“——- Just another of the daft things that trundle through my head on an autumn da.

GRAHAM CROSBY. Knew his name was in there somewhere .[ was around the time KIM NEWSOME , another New Zealand racer was doing his own thing on a KONIG — He was killed unfortunately and DIETER KONIG never built another bike engine]. COZ was a Damn fine rider -had to be to mix it with BARRY SHEENE—KENNY ROBERTS —RANDY MAMOLA and all the top notch bike racers that were around then . PHIL READ was also a good friend .
Deal i did with COZ was my 1953 TRIUMPH 650 THUNDERBIRD WITH 18 MILES ON THE CLOCK was in mint condition ——i first acquired it in a deal for a 12 bore PURDIE shotgun . Took a long wheel base MERCEDES truck—- a CANON camera and a dozen lenses + £ 3,000 cash . I had turned down £5,000 from Peter J. AGG —. He had the largest collection of MG‘s in the world and a great collection of 1930/s ROLLS ROYCES He had been trying to buy from me for five years , even offered me an MGTC in part ex . Somehow -we just never got the deal done .

P J AGG was a very tall man —-in fact everything he did was BIG ——He CO-OWNED HERON GROUP OF COMPANIES. IE HERON/SUZUKI. HERON PETROLEUM AND DOZENS MORE.
I am not certain of this -but i think he was in the guards as a young man . He would order a brand new 65‘ sailboat every year and sail it to the Bahamas for his months vacation—rent it out for enormous amounts and sell it at a vast profit .
He Permanantly employed a man to scour India for old rolls Royce’s —-and shipped them back to England for Restauration .
PJ lived in Reigate Surrey in a modest house with his wife -son. and daughter .
He used to ask me ten times a year to go and work for him — i always declined , when he asked me why, i told him because we would always be falling out as i thought he was a bit of a prick at times .
My friend REX WHITE worked for him all his life right from the TROJAN days -even before the. TROJAN F1 race team,
He was the brains and cash behind BARRY SHEENE ——-turned down the MERCURY franchise in favour of LAMBRETTA . But the P J AGG story is for another time . He was a good friend of mine .

Now riding with the guy was very interesting because he only had one hand and it was a left-hand his right arm was injured in a motorcycle accident and was next to useless. So when he wanted to shift gears he would let go of the steering wheel With his left hand and reach across and shift the transmission most of the time the car went straight but sometimes it would get a littleSketchy. Needless to say a lot of people only rode with him one time.A lot of fun back in the day

So when he wanted to shift gears he would let go of the steering wheel With his left hand and reach across and shift the transmission most of the time the car went straight but sometimes it would get a littleSketchy. Needless to say a lot of people only rode with him one time.A lot of fun back in the day

COZ was not your everyday forget about racer —- he was just as hard as ROBERTS -MAMOLA and SHEENE - STUPIDLY AGGRESSIVE — remember him getting into it with PHIL READ and BILL IVY —- fists flying and black eyes . Around the time BAZ and STAVROS blew up the smelly tin roof toilets at DONNINGTON
First car i ever owned was a 1938 MG TC IN RED WITH WIRE WHEELS AND A DODGY MOTOR . Swopped my thunderbird and £25 for that. That was 1952 !!!!!!!
Handled like it had oval wheels with no tyres on a skating rink that iced over and thawed out [at night]. Must have been a right lemon with a yank V8 stitched inside .

Didn’t do him much good though— he was still a young man when he died —probably burned hisself up keeping fit. One of the reasons i am trying to live to a ripe old age is by not wearing out my body doing physical energy consuming exercise. Do just enough to keep the blood flowing and the little grey cells active ——making concepts and the daily crossword seems t be working OK.

“Oxford will always be the home of Mini.”
Stephanie Wurst (Mini boss) said the decision to halt the electric Mini assembly in the UK was not linked to post-Brexit supply constraints and cross-border friction with the EU, or the lack of a nearby gigafactory, but because the Cowley plant was running inefficiently by having to produce electric and petrol cars on the same line.

FIFTY ONE YEARS AGO TODAY ———-i was sharing a room with BILLY DON PRUETT at the NAUTICAL INN LAKE HAVASU. Was around ten o’clock on a Sunday morning . PRUETT was jockeying the ex UP AND AWAY and was somewhere up with the leaders .
I hadn’t had my morning constitutions and ablutions, so i headed back to the room at the inn, settled on to the pan in the toilet and proceeded to empty my bowels . One of the worlds most underrated pleasures when done in private and quietly. Never bothered to even close the bathroom door — was only two keys —PRUETT had the other,HE WAS BUSY THROWING UP AND AWAY ON ITS HEAD AND BUSTING HIS HIP so i had no reason to be anything other than supremely content and enjoy the moment.
We had dined at a typical shack that did a DAMN FINE CHLLI [Pruetts words not mine] so the surrounding atmospheric conditions left a little to be desired . I heard a commotion and the outer door open . Was no way i could reach and close the bathroom door , my pants were round my ankles .
Then the most beautiful young lady with raven black hair and a smile that could split granite poked her head round the door . HI-PRUETT SAID WE COULD USE THE BATHROOM .
Afraid i lost it ,yelled and shouted GET OUT OF HERE — She just put her hand over her mouth and laughed like a loon . FECK OFF LADY AND GIVE ME SOME PRIVACY !!!!!!::””~~~ That was the first time i ever met. Kathy Flo Smith. Was a relationship and friendship that deserves a book of its own —would make GONE WITH THE WIND look like a paperback. But thats for another day —just thought i might mention it on this special HAVASU WEEKEND.

I did do some deals with PJ AGG but thats another long story !!!!!!

Bob and Des were movers and shakers in the boat business in Melbourne thats for sure.
When they built Whalers Cover Marina it was beside the Marina I worked in.
It wasnt all as smooth as the story layed out, they got shafted by the guys ( Izzy Herzog and Mike Lasky )that floated it on the stock market.....
https://www.afr.com/politics/capital-resorts-launches-22m-debt-cutting-issue-19881212-k361l
I worked for the Priestleys, Patterson River Marina https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patterson_Lakes_Marina
They originally owned the land Whalers cover was built on, then when Whalers Cove was in financial problems, ( lots of debt to build it) tried to buy it then within 12 months Priestleys in trouble and the owners of Whalers Cove bought out Patterson River Marina which had like 5 times the land area.
All this when some sharks got involved and floated it.
Listed companies are a whole new ball game compared to a family business.

Sounds a bit like dealing with petroleum companies —— i bought the lease to SOUTHWATER GARAGE —- nice easy going typical village filling station WITH FOUR PUMPS It did have a fresh built 40 x 40 workshop and a 2 car showroom . Down side is what was owned by TOTAL OIL. A FRENCH NATIONALISED COMPANY.
Had nine years of the bastards ——- bypass came and traffic flow ceased —- sales of petroleum dropped [which i was quite pleased about] so they upped the rent .??????
problem for me was Mercury side had taken off —— Mark was flogging used cars like no tomorrow , we no longer had to stay open 7 days a week from 7-00am to 10-00pm — it took TOTAL two years to beat me into submission !!!!!!!!

This news clip today reminded me of a cultural-boom consuming, the imaginary world of an author. And I personally saw (at the time), kids getting in long lines to buy the book-series, at our local bookstore. Bringing the youth back to reading ...
The magic of Merlin.
The sleuth of Sherlock.
King Authur like castle.
Robin Hood like triumph over evil.
Youth set in Shakespearean drama.
A very British tale in the fantasy environ of England. The Harry Potter series is fitting for the upcoming Halloween season. (My confession is, I have never read any of Rowling’s books, but the first Potter movie was entertaining).
J.K. Rowling, a woman who made a cultural impact.

Two weeks today and I’m on my way to the OFF meeting . Nearly three years since i last saw my family in the USA !!!! Different world today to what it was back then.
couldn’t see an end to my travels ——now i can.
Back then i was growing old carefully —today im on the helter skelter of life and travelling at breakneck speed .
Realistically, this is my last worldwide trip. I’m just not physically up to long distance travel any more —-I’m running out of people to fall out with—- and it’s only through downright “CUSSEDNESS” and the fact i want to see my family [and where they live now, and the fact my son MARK bought me an upper class ticket] that i made this trip at all !
Looking at Gene in photographs , it looks to me like he has the same sort of problems [although he is much older than me].
Funny thing is i haven’t even got a tad excited by the thought IM OFF TO AMERICA !!!!!! Which i always get. It has always been my favourite country to visit.

“NIC-NIC” —john Nicholson of NICHOLSON/MCLAREN —- boat he is standing in is my Hodges/Cosworth that i ran the BDG in. He said he wanted to join me in campaigning the 2-00 litre cosworth . Then he went out and bought a shed load of new mercury motors and a wagonload of spares .
in the background is the DFV Cosworth/ Hodges with me in the stove pipe hat PRUETT gave me. Sitting next to me is Chris hodges .
Raced the Cosworth at CHASEWATER quite a few times —- won the Duchess of York there with it , beating both works entries of Percival for Mercury and Alfie Bullen for OMC . finished 5th in the world OZ championships with Both OMC and Mercury fielding full works teams .
Didnt quite get it right that day — was a vicious cross wind and the wing simply could not handle it .
Duckworth wanted SEEBOLD to drive the boat —just “to see” so i agreed —- he couldn’t make it go any quicker than i could —— did get a strange degree of satisfaction out of that.
Only three people ever drove the COSWORTH DFV in its short life —- Me— Brett May—Bill SEEBOLD .

The unfortunate thing is John Paul Sr. cross the line to the ill-conceived. And the Law caught up to his drug trafficking and attempted murder.
A sad state of affairs. But then motor racing cost money, and faster speeds cost more money. And my assumption is, Senior wanted to stay in racing and to win, and he thought selling drugs was a lucrative route to sustain his racing ambitions.
And I suspect that didn't help (the talented) John Paul Junior racing career.

Some of the nicest, as well as some of the nastiest found themselves involved .

Anybody remember the film crew that were looking to hire race boat drivers in HAVASU 1970. ?????
to make a film way down in Mexico . I know PRUETT —-SIROIS and Alfie Bullen signed up for it. I was going to, but wound up in a needles hospital and missed it .
Think most of the drivers around that time were well aware of what was happening although the majority of the dark side was around the offshore scene .

There you go again Jackie confusing the English language what do you mean were you in a hospital with needles in you or were you in the hospital and beautiful Needles California In the middle of the desert. A long way from nowhere. Spent a century there one weekend delayed by the local fuzzWhile trying to deliver a wide load boat to a customer in Newport Beach California. I have decided that I was hauling a wide load on a trailer without the proper permit obviously the most life-threatening breach of the DOT laws in Beach California. I had decided that I was hauling a wide load on a trailer without the proper permit obviously the most life-threatening breach of the DOT laws in California California. Plus my old semi truck was not the prettiest beast in the world and was leaking oil a little bit from the engine and threatening to create another La Brea tar pits situation in the pristine. All this was before the Biden price hikes on everything so the ticket on Monday morning only cost me about fiveHundred dollars of course this was back in the late 1980s. All ended Well paid my fine and delivered to customers boat Three days lateTo the owner in Newport Beach. Beat a hasty Retreat out of the communist state of California back to the safety of Arizona. And eventually made my way back to Florida

Yeah, I remember the stories of guys showing up at the Mercury race truck with briefcases full of cash to buy stuff. Mercury put a stop to the $$$ laundering by insisting that all owners and racers had to have a qualified account with Merc HiPerf and account payments made thru banks on paper. There was an offshore racer who was busted who had several prebuilt Mercruiser engines and drives that were seized and impounded at Merc HiPerf as evidence. Never saw the guy again or any of his boats and hardware.

Last I heard Randy Lanier was out And enjoying life teaching road racing down at Miami homestead raceway. He had gotten caught up in the Ben Kramer Cockadoodle and was wrongly sentenced. He was a good guy and eventually got the sentence reduction he deserved. I believe John Paul junior he is now enjoying life on the outside they used to live out in the acreage in Palm Beach County I have not heard of them lately and yes he was one of the most talented Drivers in the late 70s early 80s.

Nothing meaner in this world than an ex powerboat racer ——- bet you i do not sell anything at the OFF meeting. I am thinking of holding a live auction down at Key West for the concepts .
Anyone recommend a decent auctioneer down there ????????????
Lets face it, almost without exception, colonials have always wanted to pay the same in US dollars as i charge in sterling. Makes a change for me to be on the right side for once.
Don’t forget Jackie once you’re in Key West really outside the jurisdictions of the United States as you have Entered the conch republic which Seceded From the continental US over immigration issues along time ago. As far as getting rid of all your hardware you should be able to get a table at the race site in the pits and just sell it. If not go to one of the shops and buy a pirate flag put a patch over one eye and threaten to take the whole island hostage if nobody buys

Actually finished another concept —— fitted drives and props —- received a shipment of props from
China. Cost under $5 apiece ——-they were black plastic until i gave them a liquid chrome coating !
i just ordered another fifty so all the finished boats will have three bladed racing cleavers . Twin engined rigs will have contra rotating wheels . Four and five outboard engined rigs will have props too -suddenly I’m cooking with gas.

This was just released from, the racing boat magazine – Powerboat Racing. :D
Fizzle Liz (aka Liz Truss) is vacating the Downing Street racing team. In the Bristol Embassy race, Fizzle found the cockpit speeds (and the pressure to win there) was too treacherous and stressful. The unforgiving high-stone-walled banks at Bristol England are, liken to an unloving opposition political-party.
Fizzle was brought up from the slower F2 class boat, to replace Heavyfoot Johnson (aka Boris Johnson). Heavyfoot was forced out of the 10 Downing Street race boat, because of his Garden Party fiasco. James Hunt and his buddy, Heavyfoot, noonday Garden Party, before the afternoon Chasewater race, impaired Heavyfoot’s biological stability. Some speculated that partying with James before the race, was the reason Heavyfoot had his nasty racing boat accident.
Soon after the race, parliament member, Sir Jackie Stewart went to team owner Bernie Ecclestone and manager Gary Garbrecht, and petitioned unfit Heavyfoot to be ousted from the team. The British Championship race is coming up next, and now the Downing Street team need a driver of championship skills. Team sponsors Carl Kiekhaefer and Mercury Marine are, also pressuring the team to find a qualified driver soon.
There is a conundrum, because aged race drivers like ... Bob, Tom, Jackie & Roger are past there prime. Across the water, you can hear John Lennon’s lyrics “Christ you know it ain't easy …you know how hard it can be”. And also, Prince William and the Princess of Wales will be attending the British Championship race. The country will be watching, who will be the new PM Champion.
Powerboat Racing’s exclusive (from Lake X Kid) now is that, Heavyfoot Johnson wants to rejoin the Downing Street team. Jackie Stewart approached Bernie and Gary, and is questioning Heavyfoot's commitment and maturity. In F1 racing, this time of the year is called the "silly season". However, the larger question is —who will be piloting team Downing Street to PM victory.

Unique analysis of the political Nutways I Sir Jackie Stewart land. Now is a good time to leave for Florida Jackie come in joy the sunshine and leave Dreary Old EnglandTo be rescued by the French. They are still mad about Brexit and want the Almighty English pound pound sterling back to prop up their flailing economy. So if you don’t mind the Prime Minister smelling of garlic and sweat you might be well advised to accept their assistance. Just think of the advantages Unfortunately I can’t come up with any. Can’t say as I blame you about being touchy about the pot calling the kettle black. I’ve got a twofer for you. Will rent you Kamala Harris for your Prime Minister and Joe Biden for Pope That should totally screw up your country The European Union and the Catholic Church all in one fell swoop. I hope nobody’s taking me seriously but it sure poses some interesting questions. It would almost be like making Osama bin Lawden our defense minister. Gas prices have gone through the roof over here along with diesel. If Joe Biden would wake up and instead of telling the Towel heads but everything is OK but guess what next time you have trouble in the sandbox call the Chinese or Indians and see what they will do for you. I think we should just go ahead and make Venezuela the 51st state and all of Central America and 52nd through 50 whatever states they come to and it be cheaper on all of us. Again I hope nobody’s taking me seriousilly. Probably best I just sit in my rocking chair and watch NASCAR and boat racing on TV.

So he’s married to a failed soap opera star it has the ego of an elephant and the star draw at the whistle buoy off of Government cut. Actually she’s probably a very nice lady and my analysis of the situation is flawed but but but then again I don’t think so. I like to think what Prince Andrew would’ve done with the situation it would’ve been one and done. God bless Fergie. Anyway Jackie hasn’t responded to my offer of Camela Harris and Joe Biden I may have to sweeten the offer and throw in Obama too I think you’d fit right in as a wind vane on the top of your castle Jackie. Only problem with that is his big ears will probably make too much noise flapping in the breeze . These are just some of those concepts that will not be making it to florida, over twenty five in all . Surprised myself by the amount of stuff I’ve churned out over the years .
DHL still haven’t delivered . Last i heard the trunk had left BOCCA rattan on Thursday for Marks place — but by Sunday night had failed to deliver.
Taking the trusty Lexus in for its annual medical. 7 years old and 55 thousand on the clock . Might even change the oil this time .

Supposed to be feeling a tad excited about the OFF trip but I’m damned if i can work up any enthusiasm for it all.
Been three long years since i went anywhere apart from SUPERSHED!!!
Just chucked myself into working the way i always have —foraging at the car boot sale and the „“RECYCLING FACILITY“. [scrap yard to you and me].
Late last night there was still no news of the trunk full of concepts. Took 48 hours from my door to New York . Then another five days to reach Rocca Batan —- Mark reckons they’re waiting for a big enough truck to be able to carry the damn trunk.
Still no sign of the decals for the four record boats —cutting it a tad fine methinks.
Sad to hear of the death of the guy who drove the Chrysler Stacker —he was always the loudest boat at Tavares. Shame Chrysler never picked up the cudgel with CK — could have been interesting .

Well it looks like the trunk full of concepts has arrived —-whether its whole and intact i dont know. If it is then there should be a number of them on display at Marks place for the OFF meeting !
still cant get to grips with the upsidedown effect and nobody has explained to me in words of one syllable that i am yet to understand.
Not exactly thrilled at at the choice of our leader —- not for any particular reason other than the fact he is the third this year. Previous two made a right pigs ear of running the country -so i am full of no confidence RUSHI will do any better— although it would be bloody difficult to do any worse than the OTHER TWO DID!!!!!!
A week today and i will be winging my way across the pond . Day after that will be the start of a two day OFF meeting and greeting a bunch of old friends . See you there ???

C’mon Gene —thats an old picture taken over a year ago !!!!!!
You are far more advanced than that with the MALIBUSTANG.—- Didnt it actually taxi to the outside earlier this summer .
I know IAN and CHRISTIAN TOLL and his wife are already booked in hoping to see you there .
John CONNERS — ODELL——RICHIE — hells teeth Gene —even me have all made a valiant effort just to have one last crack at the old farts meeting.
I am bringing a couple of the very first wings i ever made [even dropped the price to $150 apiece] plus a bunch of stuff i know you will like .
Some guy offered me a big bag of gold for the MALIBUSTANG, so i sold it to him. I never did put it up for sale as i thought one day it would be yours , but it was not to be. [went towards the gas bill].
Aweek today and we will all be eating breakfast at Marks place, think the total entry list is forty.
Would be nice to see you one more time .
Did i miss your birthday then ???? You have to be 91 by now —- how the hell did that happen ??? Only three months and ill be right up there with you again .
Is it you or ODELL who is LE PATRON ?????

Doing a gradual wind down of all things here —been warned against using machinery —— eating crap food —skid marks on the sheets and anything that could jeopardise my chances of getting on that plane come Wednesday morning .
Bought a shed load of gear at the car boot this morning —spent a shed load of dinero as i figure i could come home well and truly skint, what with the price of a Bud down in Key West.
had DIM SUM for dinner at Sam and Clive’s —- never was a lover of chinky steamed grub.
Can’t wait for a decent DAIRY QUEEN burger or dinner at the sea food restaurant in STUART.
Brighton just wiped the floor with CHELSEA — excellent football — i may start getting a tad excited again .

Think it might be called THE SEAFOOD FACTORY —-it’s also LOU and GARY’S and great grandson BRODERICKS favourite seafood place .
Although CLARISSA’S Italian restaurant is Lou’s all time favourite —-she worked there as a teenager with Grandson Craig as a BUZZ BOY”.

DOESNT LOOK LIKE I WILL GET THE DECALS AND LIVERY FOR THE TWO RECORD BOATS IN TIME.-PITY.
Will spend the day packing up my suitcases and backpack.
On the wind down now — starting to look forward to the trip.
Jonesy 84 and lying——Richie trying to look younger ———maybe GENE and Fred ????? Quite a lot to look forward to at the OFF meeting .
Gary and the HUSKI team are now leaving Friday —so all you guys may want to take off to the factory on Thursday afternoon or you will miss seeing all the raceboats !!!!!

JUST weighed in my two suitcases ——- 64 kilos allowed in Upper class— IN 2CASES .
0ne was just 31 kilos —the other with the grandkids presents and other goodies weighed in at 46 k’s. Oops—- three concepts had to be pulled and a few mounts had to be pulled . BOTHER !!!!!!!!!
JUST HAVE TO TIDY UP THE WORKSHOP A TAD . Its a bit like sainted mother always insisting on clean underpants in case i got run over by a bus . Still——-its what you do isn’t it?????
Adrenaline starting to kick in a little .
Mark Rathermill cant make it and Rich has pulled out—— Ted Boyd and the boys cant come ——Charlie Wolf wont be there either . But its all in the game of trying to organise an event —- full of let downs and disappointments . Promise those of you that do come, you will have the best OFF ever —- one you will remember for the rest of your life .
We May all have to trundle down to Gary and Lou’s HUSKI RACE SHOP. Late Thursday.
arrangements have been made to leave early friday morning for all the trucks and boats .
There will be a fair selection of concepts for all to choose from —unfortunately my son in law [Little Jeff] caught covid and couldn’t do the livery for either of the record boats .
Great pity as i was hoping to have two of each at the OFF event—— just another of life’s little disappointments.
If you don’t hear from me again, i will see you all for breakfast Thursday morning at Mark and Craigs place .

But grandpa - you don’t LOOK like you !!!!!!!!
Lizzie’s first reaction at seeing me suited and booted and ready for the off. She must think i brushed up pretty good with all my posh togs on. GANT shirt and pants and my ALAN PAINE country gentleman’s hat — polished CLARKE shoes and a touch of “BAD B0Y” by Hennessy . NOT ONLY DID I LOOK GOOD—- BY GOLLY I FELT GOOD.!!!!!!!
finally finished work for a couple of weeks plus. Sam’s picking me up in about an hour —then up to lunch at THE “ONSLOW”, A COUNTRY PUB ON THE RECLAIMED CANAL — JUST PAST THE CHURCH in the middle of the village.
Then dinner tonight at “THE TITCH” another of Loxwood’s notorious pubs at the top end of the village —just past “THE CHASE” which is Sams place in the country.
Early to bed and then a 5-00am start to the day with a drive up to HEATHROW airport.
Now the wind down has officially begun and the adrenaline might start to flow —- but i must confess to it being a tad slow to kick in !!!!!
looks like im departing just in time —we have gale force winds and rainstorms forecast for the next two weeks . Ah well—as Chas used to say “SOME DAYS YOU EAT BEAR”.

Have read a shed load of boring people on facebook stating the obvious “im in the upper class lounge waiting to board”————where the hell would they be—-out on the tarmac—- in the ladies toilet ????
so I’m saying nowt——-another 12 hours and i should touch down in Orlando. Only reason we wont do that is if we are in a sh-t load of bother!!!!!!!!!
when you reach 90, kids do tend to worry a lot about you a lot more — wonder if you still have all your marbles ——- are you really that free of parky’s problem or a tad dim from dementia . Told em not to worry —- they will be the first to know.
As i wander through heathrows terminal two i have realised that by being white i am an absolute minority. In the 60’s and seventies there was a spattering of nationalities —— some coloureds with a few yellows ——- only one in 83 and half are same as me —- rest are all DIFFERENT . I am a dying breed . Sat down here having eggs Benedict in the UPPER CLASS LOUNGE i would be hard pushed to find someone exactly like me . My kids would say IMPOSSIBLE. .
flights been called and i do have a ride to the departure are , so next news will be from florida.

Here is a fellow Brit.
And he was the British Champion 1970, and Jackie, Tom or Bob was not. How could that be?
Maybe Jackie in 1970 was in Florida at a OFF gathering :nonod: . No that cannot be why, musta been another reason  why Bill was the 1970 Champion.
