Not the answer you are looking for...but both are Hodges.
...I knew this from the onset. Its just fun to get Jackie all riled up. (You can see the yellow Hodges sticker on the front of the cowl on Marks boat.)https://www.fastonwater.co.uk/images/p067_1_00.jpg

Exactly the answer I would have expected Fuji—- because word for word, that’s what I would have said !
OK my friend, if you’re that smart—— can you tell me why Hodges chose the elephant for his logo ???
Yes, me myself does know the answer—— Mark and I were present at the inception!
By the way, this question is open to anyone—— if you think you know the answer, have a crack at it !

Mark bought a total of five “Hodges”——- 1 Burgess—— 1 Molinari —— 2 Seebolds——- Always said the best boat he ever had was the little sprint Seebold.

Jackie, I posted these quite awhile ago on HOT SINGLES;

Jackie; thought you may like these pictures;
#6 is St. Louis 1980. I think a loaner from Bill.
#20 Seebold...Duchess of York, Chasewater 1980.
#20 Hodges "IMPALA"; Bristol 1982 ON champion
#20 Hodges "Rolatruc"; Milan 1984

You heard right Rob——- when that logo was first thought up it was a hot summers night at Tim’s Boatyard —- right on the river Thames.
Chris loved his music, The Who—- Police—- Steely Dan and the likes !
That particular night, he Had Pink Floyd ——- turned up full volume- you could hear it all the way to Richmond.
Hodges was a finer craftsman than Angelo Molinari —— his work was beautiful—- he was the most meticulous boatbuilder I ever came across——- always said “The eye is the finest measuring instrument in the world.”
If his ideas had lived up to his capabilities—— then he would have been right up there with Fabio Buzzi—- Soni Levi—- Shead and the likes.

That’s the Mitch Liembke “SASQUATCH” with the V 8 motor—— think it was a SIDEWINDER Hull——- I have heard the original Sasquatch was a Seebold —— fitted with a WESLAKE V12 JAGUAR ENGINE, and a mould was taken——- subsequent boats were glass and called “SIDEWINDERS”.456536
This is the original SEEBOLD SASQUATCH—— V12 Jaguar power—-I’m told it could run at 145 mph !

It was an outstanding achievement——- I think the year was 1985—- the place was Parker Arizona!
No one seems to know what happened to this rig.
i have heard that the V8 Sasquatch is hung up in a bar somewhere in the mid west!

Only me can take a perfectly good picture, or a beautiful “Concept” and completely screw it up—- thanks for helping out Fuji !

Mark and Craig thought there was a gap in the market for both a 16’ and 29’ all carb composite boat.
To this end they have produced a pair of boats that have good all round performance, coupled with light weight and minimum horsepower.
Should be up and running in the next couple of weeks.
Ill keep you in the “loop”.

There’s several very knowledgeable “old farts” out there, si I’m surprised none of them came up with an answer .
Sasquatch is a boat that has gone down in AMERICAN boating folklore ! That makes it one of a kind—— and very desirable to any collector.
Im surprised Mike Mullins hasn’t been out and about searching for this one—— I know he has the “ “Sidewinder” moulds ——- he is familiar with the Liembske history.
That one that’s hung up in the bar in “Kansas”???? Must be worth restoring.
Over here in a quiet corner of a seaside town, there’s a guy named Christian Toll who is quietly restoring famous offshore boats , including DRY MARTINI——Betty Cooks KAAMA , and Doc Magoons
Kiekhaefer 1V .
Ive been down to see them at Christians place in Poole——— they are impressive.
I also got an invite to visit the Cowes Torquay Cowes race in August this year——- I’m making every effort to get there.

No, Dorothy, Sasquatch is not in Kansas and not in the mid west. Only Toto knows where Sasquatch is hiding...

ET 80 - Sasquatch

The ET-80 Silverwing "Sasquatch" was owned by Art Williams. In 1994 it was driven to fame by Greg Foster in the Parker Enduro 500, powered by a Paul Pfaff big block chevy. Greg took an early lead and never gave it up. It was retired to the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent Washington but later purchased by Best Wings (USA), the parent company of Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant chain. Sasquatch now resides here in Clearwater, Fl.

The late Mitch Lembke ran the Speed Marine's ET-79 "Silverwing" through the kilo at 138.

Now the story I heard came from a good friend of mine Paul Goddard (who resides in Clearwater- but travels the length and breadth of the USA) .
I understood the boat was hung upside down from the ceiling of a restaurant somewhere in the mid west ( my mistake) when it was really in his home town.
SO—— Fuji——-the question still remains—— what happened to the original Seebold “Sasquatch” with the V12 Jaguar motor———- is it still all together in some far off field ?—— was the motor taken out——- was the wooden hull destroyed? —— I still get the feeling that some old fart out there knows something about the original Sasquatch!

Mike Mullins would pay good money for it I know!

Nope....not the same boat. In the spring of 2003, Best Wings purchased the hull from the Hydroplane and Race boat Museum in Kent Washington. They had a plastic engine fabricated to make it appear authentic. They transported it to the Clearwater location and as Jackie stated, they hung it upside down with many other race memorabilia and motorcycles . This was all done in advance of the Grand Opening in November 2003. It has been resting there ever since. The pictures that you posted are from the Clearwater Quaker Steak and Lube, not Race Rock. I have been in both restaurants.

Way to go Bobby Vee—— that’s the stuff I love to hear——- BEEN TO BOTH QUAKER-STEAK AND RACK ROCK——- so Bob, the question begs !!! Is that the second Sasquatch from the mid nineties——- that had the V 8 ——- or a fake ???
Like the COSWORTH——- it’s got a fake motor—— !!!
There was only ever one COSWORTH—- so you could never get it mixed up with another boat!
Keep in mind we are still on the lookout for the original Sasquatch!!!

Jerry Lempkes(and his son Mitch) who created the Silverwing tooling/molds, did they use a Seebold hull as a starting point & modify it? The reason I ask is, they also owned & raced a green and white trimmed Seebold, ET 79, powered by a Jaguar V-12 engine built by Art Mission of British Motor Service. Mercruiser Speedmaster drive of course. Tragically, both Jerry and his son Mitch were killed in a head-on highway accident on the way to a boat race event back in 1987, afterwhich all their boats were sold off by the family.

Jackie...The Sasquatch that is hanging upside down in Clearwater's Quaker Steak and Lube is the real original Sasquatch that was raced.

Now this may solve the mystery of Mitch Lembke's V-12 Silverwing. The post below is from December 2015. From the information it would appear that, unfortunately, the boat is not what it once was. As the saying goes, "they are only original once."

Sasquatch was probably the best looking capsuled Silverwing ever raced. It ran a BBC.

Sorry Bob, but the Red Sasquatch is the later model Plastic boat—— the “ORIGINAL” is the wooden Seebold with the V12 Jaguar——- not a Lamborghini!

Yes, I know that the Sasquatch, ET 80, is a later model fiberglass Silverwing. It is the one that was owned by Art Williams and driven by Greg Foster in 1994 to win the Parker 500. The one that I believe you are looking for is the ET79 that was owned by the Lembke's. That boat was known as the Lamp Post Pizza boat, not Sasquatch. There was only one Silverwing Sasquatch and that is the ET 80 that Art Williams owned. The ET 79 is the wooden boat with the V-12. The post I left you from Rayzor (see below) mistakenly identified the power as a Lamborghini V-12, but it was actually a Jaguar V-12. We know that.

https://www.screamandfly.com/images/misc/quote_icon.png Originally Posted by Rayzor https://www.screamandfly.com/images/buttons/viewpost-right.png (https://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?p=2816926#post2816926)

Nevertheless, it verifies what I had been told years ago that the ET 79 was sold by the Lembke family after the accident that killed Mitch and his father. Apparently Rayzor's buddy is the one that purchased it. If you can find Rayzor, you can probably find the boat, assuming it is still intact. Someone reading this probably knows Rayzor

If you are looking for a Silverwing other than the ET 79, I do not have a clue.

To those of us running slower than a "Skater 46", I would like to reminiscence about an episode decades ago.

Chattanooga Tennessee around May 1987 and the weather is inviting. It’s an invitational bass tournament and Mercury is the host sponsor. There are at least 40 to 50 (maybe more I do not recall exactly) identical bass boats for the invited fishermen to compete in.

I am on vacation from work in California, and I come by to help dad and Leroy test the boats. One does not realize how long it takes to unload and check gauges, trolling motor and engine on the water, when dealing with so many boats.

Good timing for me, the second day a Merc engineer from Wisconsin arrives, and wants to test boats for the upcoming weekend bass tournament. I tell dad later today, I am heading north to attend the Indy 500 time trials. And therefore I do not want to get my hands dirty (everything on these boats were new & clean) :) and I was not going to operate anymore 70 mph +, bass boats today.

Side note the Indy 500 time trails for pole position, was still drawing over 200, 000 spectators for the event. And in the 1987 infield I was among the masses enjoying the race atmosphere. Now back to Chattanooga.

Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – aagghh…

Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – aagghh…

Is there something wrong with that brand new Merc engine?
Of course not the engines I test drove the previous day were flawless. Then what is the young Mercury engineer doing or not doing. He and I were in the same age bracket, but I do not recall his name.

Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – aagghh…

Dad and I are standing on the park’s parking lot where all the bass boats are in symmetrical aligned rows. And we look back down at the boat ramp area, where we hear an engine revving repeatedly, but going nowhere.

Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – agh… Varoom!!! – aagghh…

And the engine noise subsides with the unaccomplished task. Now Roy Ridgell and I both correctly assess the problem. The engine is fine and healthy; but the driver is new to the seat. Dad thought it a little humorous, and I felt empathy for a learned guy, but a novice at hands on application.
Finally after an embarrassment of delay, the engineer changed his tacit, and found and utilized the engine trim button. Eureka! Getting on plane is made easier. In my opinion one of the top five innovations for the motor boat industry —engine power trim.

First trim I ever saw was around 1966/67 at the Idroscala in Milan .
Bob Spalding and me were there with a tiny 16’ Schultze and a 1000 BP. That ROY, Don Ross and me had got really buzzing.
Deiter Schultze was there with his 18’ and a 1250 BP fitted with POWER TRIM ????
Renato protested UNFAIR advantage——— the ITALIAN Federation stepped in and said he could race if the power trim was disconnected!!
I agree with you Steve—— Power trim made a bigger impact than the power lift ever did!

I bought the little SCHULTZE to put a 65hp Koenig on its bum—— But Dieter Koenig was slow in delivering it to Paddy Rolfe ( Koenig UK distributed)——- but I did have a 1000 BP that had just been delivered, so I stuck it on the transom——- went like sh-t ofn a Teflon coated shovel .
Don Ross—— Bob and me decided to race it in the first big race of the season in Milan,
Renato never did build another 18’ boat after he saw that one and the way it went.

The build up to the race and the race itself is a saga in its own right—— one day I might get around to telling it.

Jackie - It appears that "Mid-Life" knows where to get in contact with Rayzor. Perhaps if you lean on him, he can put you two in touch so at least you can finally resolve the mystery of the ET79.

Bob, I buried “Shoulda”—- right next to “ Coulda”—— in the plot adjacent to ”Woulda” and “ Mighta” a while back.
That was sometime after the demise of “ Hurryup”—- then I stepped down off the rollercoaster of life for a while, stopped and smelled the roses!
Dont quite remember when that was ——- !!!!
Seems like a lot of folk keep advising me to ask Crisis who knows Bob who is a friend of RAYZOR that might know the whereabouts of The ET Sasquatch that was named Lamp Post ( maybe) !
Well, I sent a PM to RAYZOR already——- I figure that sometime soon he may take a look at it——— and when he’s good and ready—— he might tell me something—— so for now, let’s leave it at that!

Worked on the Roller all day yesterday and there’s very little to show for it—— seems like there were quite a few “wrongs” that I put right——- too much WAGLEMENT in the wheel bearings—— made the straphangers out of 4mm alloy rod—— started stripping the threads, so I changed them to 5mm brass rod. Don’t see any change for the days work, but I got a nice easy feeling it’s right.
I love this old S+F malarkey—— love to wind my friends up—- keeps me in touch and reminds me all’s well .
Still have things to do and places to go—— ambition and the desire to age gracefully!
Have a good day—- my breakfast is ready!

Thers the phoggies I promised——- a morning in the life of an old fart !
First is the rear springs—— 10 mm—— cut from brass plate —— drilled, bent a little, put five ov ‘em together and you got the makings of a pair of rear leaf springs.
Cut some 4 mm rod into 60 mm lengths ——— thread both ends—-bend into a u shape —— cut and drill a ten mill brass plate —— then cobble the spring and the hangers together !!
Step back and take a look——- then dismantle the whole lot ——- chuck away the alloy rod because it’s too soft and strips the thread. Fabricate another six brass hangers before finally stitching the springs to the floor pan!!
So—- we have a base that’s on four wheels, that’s ready for the ;ext step!
I will send you a progress report later this week.

Information from Todd Fitschen (co driver of ET-79)

"The boat that we won Parker with was our Seebold, after that win we started on the new Silverwing, and sold the Seebold to Gary Mills in Hawthorne Nevada. As far as I know, the ET79 was the only ET boat to run the 12 cylinder Jaguar motor. I believe that all the others were V8's. The "Sasquatch" boat in Florida, is the identical Silverwing hull as our Kilo record boat with a Jaime Auld capsule, with the sand cast Speedmaster II."

That ties in nicely with the information we already have Bob.
Looks like the Lamborghini motor never existed——- somebody mistook the V12 Jaguar for a lambo.
Question still begs——- WHERE IS ET79 today——- are we any closer to locating it’s whereabouts?
Thanks to all the people that got involved in the hunt for et 79—- thanks to Steve Ridgell for bringing a bit of fresh interest to “Tricks” while all this was going on. ,

Did manage to churn out a couple of brass headlamps —— will try for four acetylene lamps and I’m cooking with gas—— but that’s for another day.
Lizzie staying with us overnight—- she’s getting harder to wrestle—— she’s five in February—- she’s getting hard to handle already, athletic and tireless—- reminds me of me 84 years ago!
I keep looking atmyPM’s just to see if There’s anyway from RAYZOR——. Nothing up to now—— minute I hear, I’ll let you know!

Does anyone else do their best thinking at night, just before drifting off !
I find I can solutionise most insurmountable problems about five minutes before noddyland.

Another little bit of useless information—— I can fly from London to Florida without using the bathroom—- so how come I have to “inspect the plumbing” at least once a night when I’m home ?
When the frost’s on the ground —- I can go four times a day !
Just wondered if it was me—— never ever had a bladder problem in my life—- maybe it’s just another of those “age related” things that keep rearing it’s damn head!
Finally got around to reading BROWNIES “Tales from Thunderboat Row.—— surprising just how many folk he knows, that I know! It’s a wonder we never met, years before we did in an hotel room in Tavares.
He never did charge me for the signed copy he gave me—- so once again Brownie, thank you!

Had another good day in the shop——- finished the windshield—- and two headlamps —- ground the crystals for the lenses——- almost finished the front two acetylene lamps.
Did the pair of mirrors and holding bar.
Might start stitching the whole thing together next week!
This is a commission from someone who wishes to remain anonymous—- don’t ask me why, that’s the reason this had to be as near a perfect concept asi could make.

Not a lot to do with boats and engines—— but it has a lot to do with tricks that a retired boat racer gets up to. There’s a couple of days work in that little lot. Just have the acetylene pot to finish and the sapphire crystal to put in place along with the mirrors and I’m haulin Mail!

—Catchee Monkee. Believe it was CHARLIE Chan who uttered those immortal words.
Course , it wouldn’t be allowed under today’s PC rules———- Catchee Monkee——- you would be accused of extracting the urine out of our Oriental Neighbors.?.
And as for the finer interpretations——- believe me when I tell you that it’s an almost certain solitary spell with the lost key syndrome!

All I’m trying to say —- I had a good day in the shop——- bought a nearly new hand drill for a couple of quid but drew a blank at the scrapyard. Was cold as charity out there, so I didn’t hang about too long.
Just had a written warning from the client who wants this latest roller——- frankly my dear, I don’t give a flying fart—— it should be enough that I told him I wouldn’t tell. I flushed it down the toilet ——- after ib used it in the oblutions !
Will send you another piccy as the beast gets assembled!

Still no sign of a reply from RAYZOR about the whereabouts of ET 79 !
Wonder if Mike Mullins might have any ideas—- I understand he has the moulds for the “SILVERWING”
So may have some information.
Steady slog in the shop today—-At that stage of the game where there’s lots of work and very little to show for it !
To be honest—- I’m all Rollered out—— got a couple of fresh ideas floating about around the little grey cells.

This bloody stupid “Politically Correct” malarkey is getting completely out of hand !
Today these idiots in their wisdom decided bingo callers should no longer call the number 88, two fat ladies, but WILLIAM AND KATE ????? It can’t possibly be just me!!
Then, there’s this new film 1917 that has a Sikh in it when there never was—— but the PC pillocks —-decided on the grounds of equality, there should be.
When Lawrence Fox challenged this, said it was ridiculous that fiction had overtaken fact under the guise of “ equality” he was accused of being , quote : White- privileged— racist — ???
Every TV program shown today has —- Gays- Lesbians— far more coloured than white actors, but should I dare even comment on it —— I’m called “Bigoted—- White— Prejudiced— Racist “ and biased .
I was born and bred in Bradford West Yorkshire——- In 1946 I remember the first Indian who came to live there—— he was a nice man, so were his family—- he was a doctor.
Today , the population of Bradford is 75% coloured —— 25%white——- violence and drugs are rife—- the place I grew up in is no longer——— Times they are a changing !!!!

Trump is telling Boris the Chinkies can not be allowed to install the G*5 network in Britain ——- Unfortunately they are two of a kind—— neither of them listen to anyone else !

Ok, let me explain, picture I posted yesterday was taken in Nashville around 1968/9 Driver was Jack Stuteville—- owner was Doc ????
Ronald Reagan’s son was on the scene making a real asse of himself—— Event was organised by the NBDA which got eaten up And spit out by the APBA and was never the same after that.
They raced Lake Elsinore and Lake Perris—— then moved to long beach Marine Stadium—- Mona Lake and Kathy Fromm were the timekeepers at that time.
Most of the pictures were taken by Polaroid camera—— not exactly LIECA quality in the first place—- seeing as how they were developed under your armpit !!!
Maybe FUJI or Peters can do a touch of magic on them so they’re a bit more legible???

jackiewilson
01-25-2020, 05:42 PM
Ben told it was the NDBA NATIONAL DRAG BOAT RACING ASSOCIATION—- sorry.
Really great bunch of racers doing there own thing for years and years—— lots of time and hard work put in by lots of true boat racing enthusiasts.
APBA does a mandatory takeover and screws the whole scene !
Same thing happened over here with powerboating—- RYA stuck it’s nose in —— interfered with what a relatively easy to run powerboat world, managed to screw it up without really trying.
UIM was just as bad—— if not worse—— managed to alienate the powerboating WORLD including the APBA, —— strange thing is, powerboating managed to survive IN SPITE OF being affiliated to the UIM.
Throughout history there’s been the dictators and little Hitlers that have been in charge at the top level, telling the world how to run a sport the know feck all about but pretending they do!.
UIM has been run by idiots for decades—— a few good men stopped them killing off the sport completely .

You see, all it takes is a little nudge and suddenly all my friends wish me a happy birthday !
Thank you all so much for all your birthday wishes—— was a time when I used to get dozens of presents and phone calls would be constant all day. But I’m afraid as I’ve grown older, the cards and the calls get less and less and the presents to two or three.
I had grandkids around me twenty four seven—— a massive farmhouse —- acres of land and thousands of square feet of empty buildings all the kids could get lost in, move on twenty years and how different it all is. I live in a three bedroom bungalow with a cramped workshop and a small garden, visits from kids are rare as rocking horse sh-t——- a dozen cards from over fifty relations and hundreds of friends—- half a dozen phone calls and four Facetime calls from each of my kids ! That’s about it, so you see how important the birthday wishes from my S+F friends are !
Funny how I don’t feel any different at 88 to what I did when I was 87—— age is just a number after all and doesn’t mean a damn thing.
There’s adventures anew in the offing—— new CONCEPTS to be conceived—-moving house to where the house is more comfortable and the workshops are bigger and better and the concepts more outrageous.
So again, a very big thank you to all my friends for remembering my 88 th birthday. ,
Now I’m off into the workshop for the morning—— daughter Sam is taking me to Goodwood this afternoon to hit a few golf balls, down a few malts, one or two nibbles— and my birthday presents of course !

when my father “turned his toes up” , he was well into his nineties ——— he left me and my two sisters the princely sum of £412-10-6p. apiece.
Jilly asked if I wanted to buy a watch or a bit of jewellery to remember him by—— I politely declined saying I would like to buy a couple of cases of good wine !!!!
She asked me why I would do that ?—— I gently explained, —— that way, I can piss it against the wall.
One of our friends in France was nicknamed “Michael the Wine”——— his hobby was collecting the very best French wines—————- he always said that one of the best vineyards in France was right there on my doorstep, We went to this vineyard up in the hills ten miles out of Montpellier
I bought two cases of this particular vintage——— one was a 1998 premier cru—— the other was a 2002 that simply said “SPECIAL” —— having some of my family round for Saturday lunch—— it’s a leg of New Zealand Lamb—— Roasted and Pastis Flamed——- and one of my fathers piss it up against the wall Serranne of 1998 vintage!

Just when I thought I’d seen the last of the Rollers, Sam gives me a very old hard back book entitled The first twenty Rolls Royce Silver Ghost’s.
Second one in, is this white beauty with a lid and luggage rack on top, it was a famous machine called
PEARL OF THE EAST ,!! It’s been lost forever——- nobody anywhere knows what happened to it.

I have it on the back burner—— but it has to be done, but at leisure—— over a year or so—— maybe start it sometime late summer—- I still have ambition!

You seen the latest model Dry Martini from Mike Bontoft and Phil Morris——- beautiful piece of kit—— selling for £99 retail !!! Should sell a shed load of ‘em at that price.
Down side of that is they’re “plastic”—- Made with a three Dee printer—— present day “DINKY”—— every one of them is perfect —- right down to the last detail—— just like the one before and the one after. Soul less—— the original was a one off—— the next one was just a bit different —— stretched—- widened —- cut down—— stern Drives—- outboards—— no two were ever alike !
when I do a concept of any raceboat—— I couldn’t possibly do two alike—— there’s no measuring stick used anywhere——- there’s no patterns——- just a love for a boat and a passion to build it, just like the original!

I just knew that there had to have been a Silver Ghost in the royal family collection of posh vehicles!
Sure enough—— it was in the first twenty Ghosts and delivered to Queen Mary in 1908—- it’s another to put on the back burner—- but to think about !

Sunday, Sunday——- just love that day—— start of a new week, birthday celebrations all over and done with, new project under way but workshop in a hell of a state.
Time for another clear up—— change the discs and linisher belt—— empty the bins and swarf bag, sharp up the lathe bits — take the scrap box to the scrapyard.
Ship three rollers out to the USA !
Just ordered a new set of “Ear buds”——— been told that with an ap —- and the iPhone you can improve your hearing ability 1000% —— takes out all background noise, pricey but worth it. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Forgot to tell you —- expensive— amazing bottle of wine was “Corked”——- damned thing was €€20 a bottle fifteen years ago, but it has been kicked from pillar to post over the years, not kept exactly as wine should be.

Regards Rob
No way Rob——- the puddle was far too small for any serious racing——
There used to be a couple of characters called “ Nigel Riley. And John Bolster. hey were reporters for yachting magazines——— John Bolster had a weekly column in MOTORSPORT MAGAZINE they used to race together in the smallest class of powerboats.
I remember the pair of them circumnavigated Chasewater for three hours at the “BOATBUILDERS TRIALS” in a DERRY boat with a TEN HP. Motor.
Len Britnell and the pair of them organised a boat race on the puddle in the middle of Mallory Park racing circuit——— biggest horsepower allowed was 35—— lap times were around twenty five seconds——- it was a FECKIN joke !
i took my Bristol up there with a fifty Merc——- refused to put it on the water——— no turns or marker buoys—— just a round saucer with two feet of water in it!
John Bolster always wore a deerstalker—— Nigel Riley was pissed as a parrot 23 hours a day —- couldn’t put a sentence together!
No Rob,, they never did race cats at Mallory Park .

Been digging through the archives for any information about the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost “Pearl of the east”——- was a famous old chariot in its day——— commissioned by a maharajah in India who paid a shedload of dinero initially—— then had Purdie firepower installed ! Plus a rear carrier and roof rack!
Now have a proper diagram drawing of the ten and fourteen spoked wheels.
Decided I would do ten and twelve spoked wheels—— see what they looked like?
Mighty pleased with the first ever attempt from a proper plan—— book I’ve got covers everything —— how many rivets in the bonnet !
Steering wheel detail is quite amazing Alloy, Brass, leather and hardwood——- going to be a frig—— but I’ve always been ambitious!

It’s quite difficult to explain how to put the finned brake drums on to the axles—— then turn them down to fit the single bearing and then thread he axle to take the wheel hub.
Its one of those tasks you have to get into the mood for.
Once you have them made—- they can stay on the shelf until you feel like making a few more components before stitching the whole shebang together.
Bear in mind I have to make do with material that I pick up at the car boot sale or the scrapyard, none of the materials used are new or purposely ordered!
Wheel rims for instance were too thin for use—- until I hit on the idea of stitching two together—- Voila—- wide rimmed Rollerwheels!

When I get bogged down during the construction of a “CONCEPT” —- i usually switch off and do something totally different !
I really made progress with my “REACH FOR THE STARS”, concept——— even got over the ANGLE OF DANGLE before getting well and truly stumped on how the planetary system was going to work, so, since browsing through my brilliant birthday book,TWENTY SILVER GHOST ROLLS ROYCE’S.i wanted to try and make something a bit near the “actual” car.
First thing I did was to make up the wheels——- the real McCoy’s are two rims bolted together —- so I’ve done that.
Ten spokes ( out of solid) on the front, then fourteen on the back. Unfortunately if I do that the back wheels look flimsy and a bit untidy —— plus being a bit beyond my capabilities, so I settled for twelve spokes on the back wheels.
Been a week constructing four wheels and the axles, taking time out from the “reach” project, but I think I’ve come up with an answer to the planet problem ! Did take a week though!
Dont think I posted any piccies of the “reach” project , did I ? Here goes nothing!458109458110

Have you ever had one of those “Stellar” days—- days when everything goes right—— Problems—- What problems—— a kinda “Midas Touch” day.
Today’s been one of those——- problems had been mounting up for a while——- I kept switching concepts because I was stumbling and quite frankly come to an “IMPASSE” —— took the bull by the horns and nailed the problem—— then did number two——- number three—— then four.
Come lunchtime—- I didn’t have a single problem—- that’s why I had BEAR for lunch !

It would be a half hour drive.https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/proxy/x4mFeU7uvlrY_923lloIGYMlp1JOA6cn6I7cyPBOYSXlHsQF8vKSAKO1hAzRoqSZBu0ImH59zmC6gvnrgDItcj3beWg1zqXfGqCJ 2qSDeup3Cgzk9BSuGMxt93Z5rkeM-ZDh5pc=s0-d

We have much the same thing here in SUSSEX Fuji, Goodwood has an amazing museum called “THE CASS FOUNDATION “ massive pieces of art from all over the world spread over about fifty acres.
just never had the balls to offer them any of my stuff.
You have the BLUE ANGELS—— We have “THE RED ARROWS”—— they appear here, right over my house twice a year, once at the FESTIVAL OF SPEED—— and then at THE REVIVAL, both held at Goodwood.

Honest to Murgatroyd Fuji, I have better and more imaginative concepts than that chucked away in my workshop !!!
My imagination runs a bit deeper than a wine bottle in a wooden cage——- there’s one in the shed that’s twice the piece that one is——- that’s no more than a days work!

jackiewilson

Now you’re talking—— went all over Sweden visiting different small glassworks. Fascinating industry, lots of one man workshops ——- absolutely amazing what you can do with a furnace, a pair of parallels and a bit of molten glass on a stick and a few colours!
EVERYTHING is very expensive.
Could probably set up a glass works for less than my workshop cost me——— while I find it interesting—- it’s not really what I want to do.
One of the reasons I sold the wood lathe was because I got bored stiff with turning!
Suppose I’ve grown into a cranky old bastard with fixed ideas .
Ive always kept an open mind, relished the challenge of “bet you couldn’t do that”.
That’s how come I made the grandfather clock—— the Hawaiian Pineapple Table—— the mahogany sea chest,———- and the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost’s.
So, What really makes an artist ???
A Van Gough sold for £4 in 1964——- just sold for £21,000,000.——
Is it the value of the product———-the quality——— ability——— or popular demand ???
You can ask £1,000 for a concept——- but if there’s no takers !!! Worthless !
But—— cop you’re clogs—— turn your toes up—- meet the grim reaper—— your stuff becomes priceless. Why??? Because it’s popular—— it’s in demand——- and there’s no more coming from that source !!!
Then the “FAKERS” move in.

Me myself have very definite views on what is and what isn’t art!
Guy called PHILLIP MORRIS fernagled PERFECT models of the worlds best offshore powerboats—— does it with a three Dee printer.
Finished product is exact replica and perfect—— about ten inches long and sells for under £100 !

My problem is, not an ounce of skill—- feeling or love goes into it—— how is it a work of art ???
It certainly LOOKS the biz—— I get all out of shape when I see them!
Tried to explain it to Christian Toll—- I did him a concept with three of his offshore rigs——- off the top of my head, with a spokeshave , a picture and a memory!
Ones a dinky toy—- the others art—— you may not agree— but I’d like to hear from some of you exactly what you think !
No painting can ever be as perfect as a photo——- maybe framing a phoggie is the way to go?

Christian Toll—— Mike Bontoft ( current owner of Dry Martini) and yours truly!

Jackie's Concept of a Molinari Sprint has special meaning: Jackie raced his #5 boat in the early 70's - which ultimately ended up in Canada in 1972, first driven by Spencer Dunn in S Class, then by me in '73 as a U1 & SJ Boat (#11). Many great memories for all concerned!

Don and I bought that Molinari together 50/50— cost was £1000 — later that year I was taken on by the Mercury Race team.
They supplied a new 17’ boat.
I sold Don my half of the 18’ yellow Molly the week before the London race—— he then painted it “
“GAWD-L-PUS.
He won the London race at a cantor—— I raced A 16’ Levi called PHAEDRA——- bought it off Julian Bailey day before the race—- never got it set up right, Don lapped me twice!

Not much let up yet with “DENNIS THE MENACE”—— England is now officially flooded.
Worst hit was the north of England Wales and Scotland—— it’s rained for 36 hours nonstop—— ground was still saturated from last week.
One of the big problems has been water running down the hills and mountains—— so much so that the rivers couldn’t cope——- burst their banks and flooded the country and thousands of homes.
We live close to the south coast—— all the water runs into the English Channel, one way or another.
Roads and fields are flooded —- but it’s fairly flat—— and we are only getting the tail end of the storm.
Trouble is—— it’s deep as well as wide——— rain forecast for the next few days before the next storm hits Thursday/Friday.
Jolly hockey sticks—— life gets tedious don’t it—— so they Chuck two or three storms at us for good measure.
We have already had two months rain so far——- and it’s only half way through February!

Looks like Brexit and it’s aftermath is not the disaster it was supposed to be——- Germany now making noises about following ( only if we are hugely successful?)
Boris trying to do a good impersonation of Your Donald—— spending a 100+ BILLION building a new high speed railroad network—— Chinks (Huweii) reckon they’ll could build it for half that —— and years quicker—— now that would make your darling Donald throw his dollies out of the pram. THINK THE TRADE UNIONS MIGHT GET AGITATED TOO,!!
