In the cold light of the day after the referendum, have to tell you, I am "Shellshocked"-----heart told me to leave and be able to make our own laws instead of Brussels overriding everything . Head told me it was economic disaster -----pensions dropping to Zero------clowns like Bozo Boris waiting to take control--------in other words A MESS.
BRITAIN is already split, what with with Mad Medusa Nicola Sturgeon and Spineless Salmon wanting another referendum . Well I got news for them, when a democratic country votes, it's people have to stick by the majority ------not just for a year, because a couple of ambitious politicians voted otherwise.
The Irish don't know if they want a crap or a haircut------they changed to Euro's -------milked the EU for all the benefits----went on a spending spree-------everyone became a millionaire ----- but bankrupt the country doing it. ?
Wales-------who knows what goes on in the minds of that very strange people where a recreation centre is two sheep (Ewes) tied to a lamp post. ,!!
When they all start to get hungry------they'll come crawling back to mother England for a free meal, and as we all know--------there's no such thing ????

Festival piccies when I find the downloader.
Just thought I'd give an insight into MY take on the referendum.

Wandered onto the NGK stand at The Fesival Of Speed, this vision in red said she would be my crew chief should I care to get back in a boat again. Was about to tell her ( Angel) that WILLABEE was my first choice--------took another look-----had another squeeze----------------Sorry 'bout your bad luck Willa ! Red Arrows put on a great show--------spitfires were up and down like yo-yo's.
500 helicopter landings and take offs during the day------
Hundreds of cars belting up the hill climb.
If you've never been to Goodwood------there's a hole in your life------put it on your "To-Do" list.

Jackie - There is a new comer to Scream and Fly from Norfolk, England that is looking for information from the 1960's on a boat by the name of Snoopy that was driven by John Clabburn, who was a UK OI champion. I thought that if anyone could help him, it would be you. If you can help him in any way, his thread is 1960's Racing Monohull and is several thread under yours.

Jackie Stewart slipped into Jim Clarkes Lotus-------went up the hill quite quickly I understand.
I was looking at Bloodhound, seeing how far down the road they've gone, -------not a long way down apparently. Still looking for still more sponsorship--------final estimate is FORTY ONE MILLION POUNDA STERLING !

Will post a couple of piccies of the device later on

Clayburn was from Lowestoft and Oulten Broad--------was a friend of Percival and Spalding-------his running mate was Neil (Nelly) Greg------a wheeler dealer in cars , boats, money lender to the rich and famous------did a stretch for "Clocking" expensive cars.
Was one of the nicest blokes you could ever hope to meet------turned his toes up a couple of years back.
Surprised to hear John Clayburn was ever a " Champion"--------was a stalwart at LOBC, ------did a couple of Paris runs, nice enough chap, but was never a front runner.
Will take a gander at the site and see who wants to know?

First piccie is the Schultze Bob ( Spalding) and I ran in Milan, early sixties. Think Clayburn must have bought it from Bob.
Second shot is the Abbatte I think ?
They were a pretty cute lot of boatbuilders and fishermen in that neck of the woods-----could copy any race boat and build a replica in two weeks.
Third piccie is driving me nuts------I know the bald guy so well but I'm bugger end if I can put a name to him-------it will come to me sometime------just hope it's before rigor- Mortis sets in.

My grand daughter Casey-----Goodwood Festival Of Speed yesterday getting around pretty good after the car crash!
Boy hitching a ride is my great grandson Max, ( one of nine great grandkids) Footballing legend already in these parts. Give him a few years and he'll be in the million a month tax bracket.
In case your wondering-------my daughter Boo ( mother of Casey) was a Velden fan from the mid 60/s. She and The Spalding girls are still great friends !
The family that is power boating is amazing------don't matter whether it's in the USA , Canada, Japan, Italy, France! Spain, Mexico, Argentina or Australia ------somehow-----Boating friends are forever.

ENGLAND 1---ICELAND2. Ho, Ho, Ho, and a bottle of rum---------Footballers--------we should have sent Southwater Girls second eleven--------they could not have played any worse-------what a bunch of Tossers. I wouldn't have paid them in penny washers.
We have one of the best players in the world and our manager in his wisdom sent him on with just four minutes to play------
Hodgson------your done ! Try your hand at tiddlywinks or lido------you must be good at something------it certainly ain't football.
Iceland ------part time footballers who make a living FISHING-----population same as Brighton .

If you think I'm a tad pissed off, you may be right.

These big girls blouses are paid millions of £/s a year each, maybe they should try tap dancing, knitting or lacework------anything but the beautiful game!!!!

Got all the phoggies mixed up and pressed a wrong button somewhere-----do have a couple of shots of"BLOODHOUND" somewhere----see what I can do!
England1----Iceland 2. I may never recover from this!
Don't do F1 any more ! Too old to do boat racing ! Me and soccer are done for good-------sporting side of me is slowly shutting down.
Political England in turmoil------Bozo Boris in Downing Street- ? -------Corbyn has been pushed off the cliff but refuses to drop. And the dopey French demand the world speaks only French -------er, like the colonials are gonna jump at the chance ??? is it me, or has the world been turned on its head. ------like, gone completely mad.

Eggs and Bacon------bugger that------I need a drink.

Spent the day in the shop, licking my wounds and sulking-------not talking to anyone just yet in case I offend them. What the hell, if I don't offend them today, I probably will tomorrow.
Mark just got back from Bay City-------had a great time with Billy, Timmy, Leo and Stickle, Steve De Sousa and Missy.
Must have got him all fired up over something------said there were over fifty boats in the three classes, somethings brewing, I can feel it in my water.

Jackie, there is someone on the Autosport forum asking about Coventry Climax OUTBOARDS..

Did you ever encounter one?

Yes Steve, I did. Found one up in Ilkeston Derby.
Climax made a bunch of them for the Royal Navy. After about a year the gearbox used to fall off due to the mix of materials in the bottom end, ie: brass, bronze, alloy and steel. You could watch it fizz in salt water. Some were marketed in the USA ( Sears, I think).
Tried one on the back of a Bristol but was too heavy and did not have any "Thrutch" -------sold it to my mate Chas Shooter--------he put the lump in an Albatross .

Bloody Thursday again already, chucking it down, car boot sale day,-------seems like it was only yesterday since last time I was there.
Last day in the shop for a week. Taking a nostalgic trip to my old stamping grounds-------Harrogate, knaresborough, wetherby, Skipton, , Windermere , Kendal etc.
Every Sunday, up to twenty of us would jump on our motor cycles and head for the Lake District and leave Bradford far behind for the day-------the milk bar at Skipton was usually the first port of call and Harry Ramsdens at White Cross for fish and chips on the way home,----Happy Days !
Want to visit the Ruskin museum at Coniston-----home to the Campbell collection------one of the places on my wish list--------will post a few phoggies of what's there.
Many years since I raced Windermere, last time was '71/2.
Figure if I'm ever going to do it, I better get my rear in gear and do it now while I still have all my faculties in full working order.
So, crack-o-sparrow Friday, Jilly and I, take the long road north, first stop Harrogate, for what I hope will be another memorable journey.

When you've done the Lake District thing (not forgetting to look up the old Sunderland Flying Boat Factory Site on the side of Windermere) instead of heading back south...Accidently head N/E and visit the boys who are rebuilding K7 they are happy to welcome visitors who have "done a bit"....Jilly will... uum enjoy it I'm sure,

First things first------a new blade in the bandsaw.
Finished a wicked gear case-------outrageous ----------- waisted, kinda sexy motor and mid! No pipes, just curves------ "Lola Monroe" kinda propulsion.
Show you a progress piccie ot two when I get back

Drew the hull on a chunk 4 1/2"x 1" solid alloy. Cockpit comes out of a 2"X2 1/2" solid billet--------be a hell of a lot of iron filings on the floor before this gets completed--------be well in time for Tavares!

To quote our old friend John Wayne.. "Lookin' back can be a bad habit" (True Grit 1969)

Not for us though aay?.......

Phill, if you want to live long enough to be a grumpy old git, never, ever tell an Old Fart, "Looking back can be a bad habit" ----------it's what we do ! ------restore things back to better than original, bring back the "blast from the past".
Take anything in life you want-------boats and trains, planes, cars, paintings, sculptures, clocks and watches. None of the new is worth a fraction of what the old fetches at auction------and in most cases are they as beautiful or well made !
Although I love "Looking Back"-------it won't ever stop me from moving ahead------looking at pastures new, wondering what's over the hill, seeing if I can still "Do It".
I still look forward to the excitement of a new day, wondering what's going to happen next, where I'm going ? Will I get there, will I come back, will I like it ? Can I make it, will my peers like what I've done? Are the hands and mind and body still in working order?
All this and more can be answered if you just "LOOK BACK" occasionally !
Here endeth the first lesson-----my old headmaster used to say that every day after assembly prayers.

This very posh hotel dates back just a few hundred years, but the surrounding towns and villages go back thousands of years-----long before the doomsday book-------forecast is for HEAVY RAIN, up here in deepest Yorkshire -------that means take a brolly and a raincoat.

The Abbey itself has been used daily for over 850 years continuously --------must be one of the newcomers------some old chapels have done over a thousand years!
Went into the boon docks where I used to go at 17/18 years old on either a Speed Twin, Tiger 100, or a 750 Thunderbird, with a motley crew of fellow teenagers.

Well, the boy did OK------needed to win all five races to make sure of the title.
Three firsts and a second ain't TOO shabby I don't suppose.
Craig drove the nuts off 'n the boat-------beat the living day lights out of it-------smashed things up pretty good -------a lot of man hours needed to make it fit for racing today.
My grandson just needs to come first today------fate will deal the last card---as it usually does, but come hell or high water one thing remains abundantly clear------the kid drove his heart out, well done my boy----IM PROUD OF YOU.

Went to the Ruskin Museum in Hawkshead where the remains of "Bluebird" are kept.
First piccie is a model in a tourist shop window !
Rebuild is being done up in Teeside by Bill Smith who has his own engineering works.

Thing that surmazed me was the full history of Ken Warby and his World record efforts and his visit to the Ruskin Museum?
Most of the old farts met up with Ken at Gieco's a few years back---- small world "Init" ?

Well, Craig won the final heat in Sarasota--------four wins and a second put him top of the heap.
He needed five out of five------lost out on the title by three points!

Some days you eat bear!!!!!

Funny how all the old farts hibernate at weekends, has to be somebody out there who disagrees with what I'm saying------maybe most of em got taken to the old folks farm ! Where there's no signal.

Watched the P1 final last night on the link that Mark sent me-------craig quite obviously did not have the quickest boat-----he did have one he could put anywhere with confidence ------got the set up spot on and used his experience as a Triple World Offshore Champion to out drive the rest of the pack!
They are not the prettiest boats I ever saw, but one of a kind racing always was a compromise or you never would get a novice in one. What it does do, is make for close racing!
What it doesn't do is stop the bitching and moaning you always get when one guy dominates !
Craig offered to give his boat to any other driver there, and he would take their boat------needless to say there were no takers.
He also said he never once saw. 66 mph-------so they fitted webcams to three of the boats to prove it. His included.

Monday morning again-----just love that day! Off on another adventure !!!!!

never realised the Bluebird museum was at the Car Museum!
There are world record breakers there------both on water and land
Electric world beaters-----piston engined cars and boats-----turbines. ( BLOW JOBS )
Even the mock up boat Mark drove for Anthony Hopkins in the film "ACROSS THE LAKE"
Trip to the museum should be top of the wish list for petrol heads and boataholics alike!
Great selection of motor cycles, bikes, pedal cars and model cars!

Yes..Yes and No what does that mean? sounds like a knock back at the Top Rank back in the 60's......

The one on the edge of Coniston has the genuine bits of D.C's tin and will one day will house the rebuilt K7

The other one has a good selection of chariots and artefacts including the replicas used in the TV dramatizations of D.C's & his Father's antics.

I enjoyed both venues and would recommend both or either to anyone who has an interest in wheels or hulls..

Windermere also has its own Motor Boat Museum located on the edge of err...
Lake Windermere!

I am not a tour guide nor do I have shares in any business I have mentioned.....I do however like Boats, Cars and engines....Phill

Isnt it great that every nation has its own national day-----regardless------that's how it should be.
Im very proud to be British -------and I don't doubt for one minute you're proud to be American .
i have my own views on religion which I keep to myself. Would not dream of trying to change your view to mine, I believe that's freedom of choice.
There are people in this world who believe "their way" is the only way, I don't go along with that------it doesn't mean I'm looking for a fight-----sometimes you can't do right whichever way you turn.

Ran out of battery on my camera before I reached the Campbell museum-------somebody gave me a smart phone to use--------found the camera on it and clicked away to my hearts content-------have not got a clue how to download the damn thing.

It probably was a V16 Gene------I was merely overcome be the size and sheer enormity of the beast!
Seats 8 passengers in comfort. So it couldn't really be called a "family car" unless you come from Louisiana or Tennessee I suppose ?
I thought the 1927 Johannesburg Fire Engine was right up your street-----wooden spoke wheels and all.

Talked with Mark last night------said Craig beat the boat to death-----transoms hanging out, backs broken------decks parted company with the hull, engine mounts wore out ------steering shot to pieces.
Almost beyond repair--------cheaper to build a new boat.
He told Craig he was hard on the boat------Craig said-----with only five laps you can't afford to be gentle!

Isnt it great that every nation has its own national day-----regardless------that's how it should be.

It appears that your "Independence" day is going to be June 23rd (Brexit) and it does not look like it is going to be anything to celebrate. This morning on the news it stated that Nigel Farage had resigned. I think that he is planning to get out of the country before the lynch mobs string him up. I have tried to find any benefit of the UK leaving the EU and I am just not seeing it. Everything the common man was promised appears to be based on bad information.

Not quite like that Bob,
we will be able to enforce our own laws that have stood us in good stead for hundreds of years instead of Brussels calling the shots------did you know we could not imprison terrorist, rapists and killers unless Brussels said it was ok to do so.
We had no say in who could enter our country-----arrest an immigrant and he screamed not fair!
Health service is crippled with vagrants from all over the hog market demanding free benefits, housing, cars and smart phones. Angela Merkel told us who we had to let in----we had to obey or get fined.

Any one who has a boat can fish our waters, right up to the beach, anywhere in Britain, that's unless your a British fisherman---------then you can't fish home waters or catch what you want------you are given a quota-----catch more, you have to throw it back.

Do you really think the worlds money will be taken out of London -----nobody else is capable of handling it.

Through wars, pestilence , plagues and unrest, Somehow England always manages to bounce back stronger than before!

Its not all as gloomy as it first appears-----we pay £350,000.000 PER DAY, --just to be part of the EU, we are the second highest donor ! ------of course we get some of it back, but at what cost ?

You and me have totally different takes on Shakey's accident Steve-------don't want to get into a pissing contest with you----so decided to keep my thoughts to myself, it's not often I do that !!!

Bill wanted me to go halves with him in a wooden bungalow they were building on stilts out on the water-------cost was £3,000, I didn't think it was a wise investment-----he reckoned we could rent it out and show a profit. I said it was always raining in Windermere and who would go there except in August.
Another ten years and it'll be just like "Mouseland" ------ six lane motorway, all the way up to Bowness.
Anyway the tree huggers made sure there's no powerboats on Windermere ------that's because we all laughed and said it could never happen------but it did.

No, I did not visit the clubhouse, last time I was in there was with Shakey-------twenty minutes before he died---------too many memories.

But the most exciting---the REDBIRDMALIBUSTANG flies again!! After over two years of working in my 'shop' everything is completed, and a test flight of over 1.5 hours confirms every thing is working---and the INSPECTION is signed off!!

(The last pic is the famous 'Mount of the Holy Cross" from 17,000 feet)

Tricks that old racers get up to---

Mounted the hydro--------made the mount for the F2 -------seems like I've been "MOUNTING" for the last couple of days (no wonder I feel knackered)--------just don't tell the kitchen goddess.

All things being equal, I should get something fit for human perusal tomorrow------if I sweep up all the alloy filings from the bench and surrounding area -------I could cash it all in at the "recycling facility" and make a shilling or two!

Will do my usual Saturday forage at the scrap yard this morning------have a whole free day today to sort things out in the shop-------on track to finish the F2----- nothing else planned for the moment.

Stavros has been very quiet lately, so has Willabee --------thought I might have heard a comment from one or t'other-------could be they're both on vacation------or, I could be not flavour of the month ?

Still no sign of summer, still in long pants, but down to just two cashmeres------had four days in May when shorts were worn-----nothing since-----one can but hope there's an improvement afore long!

Had great couple of hours at the "recycling facility"------- found an ME 109 in the brass bin, absolute pristine condition. A jewellery box in the form of a turtle-----about 100/150 years old. An old English fox hunting horn in brass and copper-----some two foot long. Several other bits and bobs which no doubt will join the other "useless, but too good to chuck away" pieces in the DO NOT OPEN cupboard.
reason you don't open the cupboard is that every thing falls out if you do, takes forever to pile it all back in again.
Cant believe I've finished everything! -----don't have anything "on the go"-----may have time to do some golf trophies for this years Tavares tourney------stranger things have happened.

The guy that won four out of five races in the P1 boat at Sarasota driving the GIECO boat is my GRANDSON-------
boats and motors are all alike--------you get given a prop on race day------win a heat and you get posted outside in the next heat--------five laps per heat-------four laps on Saturday-----one on Sunday.
Boats run around 65 mph.
No, I haven't been in one of those P1/s------I dislike V bottoms intensely.

As a long time V bottom driver and current owner of one which runs about that speed I can say that those boats look like a handful. Big ponderous V bottoms with ventilated strakes and hydraulic steering make for some surprises. I suspect prop blowout is also always lurking just below the surface.

Dave, I have to bow to your superior skills with photos and computers----bloody near genius -----I can't even take a half tidy picture of the stuff I make-------and I can destroy Kodaks on a monthly basis.
Last camera I bought funnily enough was a FUJI, ran great for nearly a year, then refused to accept the memory card-----so , I pushed a little harder and all the little teeth on the card started to break off------tried blowing out the slot with an airline, that didn't work-------took it in to the Camera Shop,------he wanted $225 to service the damn thing-------Told me FUJI WOULD WANT $300 for doing it---------told him about "Sex and Travel" and we're no longer on speaking terms!
Sony, little hand held job my daughter Sam bought me for my birthday three years ago was fine until I started leaving it in the shop-------does not like iron filings and sawdust------the shutter has mad fits of depression and half closes when you switch it off- until I bang the base on the bench-------and refuses to fully open when turned on------that is until I poke it with the index digit------that fixes it for a while.
Had to revert back to the old. PANOSONIC with the LIECA lens-----ten years old and six pixels, but at least it works.
Thanks for tidying up the piccies. -----makes it look like I know what I'm doing------which of course is a complete fallacy . J.

Just heard the very sad news that Lee Davies passed away.
Met him in Canada a couple of years ago-----spent a great afternoon with him at his house and garage that housed the most marvellous collection of RACEBOATS and engines I have ever seen.
He had a knowledge of Mercury engines on a par with Willabee!
A lovely man ! Benny, I am so sorry, you lost a good friend.

While I was there about fifty yards from his house, Lee took me by the elbow and whispered, " don't look round, just walk steadily into the garage" I did as was asked------he closed the door-----I said" "what the hell was all that about Lee"--------he replied " just a big old grisly that keeps popping in to see us now and again, he doesn't like sudden movement.
That was the moment my bowels let loose-----Lee, R.I.P. it was a pleasure meeting you.J.

Dave, I forgot to mention the guy who took me to Lee's house was Nick Springate--------Mark Benson ( Benny ) and Nick do a great job recording outboard history.
Jilly bought me a ticket on the Rocky Mountain railroad for my 80th birthday------ boarded at Banff or Calgary, I forget which.! Landed in Vancouver and was met by Nick, stayed with him for three days--------( you all know the adage " friends and fish stay fresh for three days").
Met a bunch of Canadian boaters and went for a ride in a rapid little runabout with a 300+ HP Merc strapped on its bum----- memorable !

Time to get up and face the day------will continue this later in the day.

Kind of a melancholy sort of day-----saddened by the demise of Lee Davies-----he went to enormous lengths to put the perfect finishing touch to any project he started. The whole collection is priceless. Just hope it isn't sold off willy nilly, that's a national archive, a treasure that will never be emulated.
it either needs to be sold to a single individual enthusiast or to the Canadian or American antique boating association .
If you ever wondered what a "SILO" looked like------Lee had a perfect example !

I got seven "head down and arse up hours" in today-----the V8 (T8X) is coming along nicely---never imagined I would be this far advanced after just three days.

Wags that I remember, didn't look like that !!

Suns up, little Betty stayed overnight, all's well with the world-------getting through a rake of stuff in the shop------haven't fallen out with anyone for over a week now----guess I must be mellowing!

Tory leaders finally saw the light-------make it a one horse race------get shut of the other contender-----result ------stability, pound strengthens against all currencies , Footsie rises, common sense takes over-------who knows, maybe we're not out of the woods, but we found the footpath------it may lead to "Recovery" road, AND, we are in charge of our own destiny and free of the E.U. shackles------we got our FREEDOM back. Cogitating how to do the twin banks of exhaust pipes-----originals were twisted to form a four into one water cooled silencer! Don't know if I dare think that far outside the box-------I have very limited capabilities.
Great to see that Phil Mickelson is leading all the high flyers at Troonñ-----it's only the half ay stage, but that boy will take some catching.

Bad day here in the US 3 more cops killed 3 more injured in ambush. Hits hard here at my house. Both of my sons and my son in-law are cops. Got to get rid of these bad guys!
Trump just played his ace--------after the massacre in Nice, the civilised people of the world have had enough of Isis --------they want revenge, justice, call it what you like. They are assassins hiding behind a religion and it don't look like anyone anywhere is doing anything about it.
Trump hits the spot---------declare war on Isis --------he's smarter than the average boo- boo.
Nearly 90 people died, over half of them kids watching fireworks------what sort of religion is it that can sanction that kind of slaughter to innocents ?
It's hard to remember the time, before we were all scared of what these crazy lunatics would do next.

I know this site is supposed to be about boats and boating people-----well this old fart was working in the shop on the COSWORTH, but my thoughts and prayers were for all those people caught up in
the hatred that is Isis!

reaally sad to hear about that-------if we want a civilised society, ..then police are the front line. They are the thin blue line between good and bad------- they won't always get things right-----but without them we would not have a chance of survival.

Had a nose to the grinder sort of day-------this concept has a lot more to it than many of the things I've done previously .
experimenting, trying all sorts of new things and methods -------some surprising results and some disappointments--------it's what you get when you kick the traces, break the mould and go for it!

Let you know how it all pans out next week.

Poor old Phil Mickelson missed out on the open ------pipped at the post by Stenson the Swede !
I say POOR old Phil------that means he only pockets a couple of million instead of the ten million or so he might have won. Life can be a stone bitch!
Somedays you eat bear Phil.

Been poking my nose in where I shouldn't have been, must try and keep my mouth shut when I see something that just doesn't seem right.
Ive fallen out with lots of folk in my life-----usually it's all over "something and nothing"---- but I like to think I've mellowed over the years!

Monday again with a promise of wall to wall sunshine and high temperatures, really does feel like summers arrived------suppose I ought to check out the pool------see if it's fit for human consumption?
Tried to find out how the meeting in Valleyfield worked out-------still have very fond memories my. 1976 trip there. Jesus wept it cannot possibly be 40 years ago----seems like it was just last year.

Hope to finish the intake manifolds and injection and electrical system for the COSWORTH today----
pool needs a sweep-----nature will heat it up enough for a dip.
Sun came up just after 5:30am, was wide awake long before then, sorting out the day in my minds eye-----solving problems before they occur, you know what I mean.
Jill put out my shorts and a t shirt-------six weeks since I last donned a pair. Dislike having cold knees-----Jilly refuses to do SPOONS if I have cold knees-------spoilsport wouldn't ya say?

If I whine like Willabee and do a Fuji with back flips AND ten piccies a day would I get moved up the leader board---------it's easier to work up from the bottom than the top and scroll down------I was 13th in the pecking order at the last count.
Just pulling your chain Greg ! Most of the things I asked you to do----you did-------but if you want the Cupie doll you just have to do the one little itzy bitszy thingy!

Pulled the bubble cover off 'n the pool this morning------shock horror-----the white steps have a greenish overcoat -------half a zillion leaves lay dead in the bottom along with a dead vole, two frogs and a stag beetle. Thought I'd play it smart----------took out the filter basket, -switched to waste and sucked those blasted leaves right down the drain! Well, it worked for ten minutes, suddenly there was no suck--------tried all known tricks. It's BUGGERED and 85 degrees-------sh-t and corruption, just what I needed on a Monday morning.
Only one thing for it, dismantle the pump and sort it.------pump house is 6x4 and FULL OF JUNK, it's a stand on one leg and a blind reach into the bottom left hand corner, under the shelf, tight to the filter, chin on pool toy box-------marvellous !
Ten minutes later, I have the pump in the shop, on the bench-------four minutes and ten seconds later I have it in bits--------was not a smart move to take out the filter basket------intake to the very crude impeller system was blocked solid--------intake was corroded, so I polished it to new again and gave the whole thing a birthday!
Put it back in the hole, stitched it all up together and switched on--------runs like a rotary except quietly and sucks like a lady of the night on $100 an hour!!!! In twenty minutes I had the pool looking it's Sunday best-------let em come-------waters 80 degrees and clear as crystal-----but it is 11am and I haven't even looked at the COSWORTH .
It had to happen, Steve from next door came round spitting feathers-----he was laying concrete Friday and left two shovels covered in the stuff--------two days later, he brings em round---------could I give them the kiss of life ------resurrect them? Took nearly two hours------but they were better than new and were mirror finished-----four o'clock and I haven't done anything to the "concept"--------that's when Keith came with baby Betty--------Somedays you eat bear!

Sun was up at 5:45am, not a breath of wind, forecast is for 90 degrees today.
Better get the "rear in gear" and open the shop early-------even with the front and back doors open, it does get hot in there by midday.
New company started up sending parcels to the USA for about half the cost of the big carriers. Might just send Roger H his hydro as a try out------was going to take it to Tavares ------trouble is, that's three months down the line and he paid for it way back------keep your eyes peeled for a 10 lb. parcel sometime in the next two weeks Roger!
Plug leads on the COSWORTH were always a work of art on their own-------replicating them is quite tricky--------did the leads out of the outer core of a three wire cable, damn stuff kinks on a tight bend so I need some pure rubber black or red tube that won't go flat ----anyone got any bright ideas?

Spent the whole of today making two manifolds and two sets of pipes-----two silencers-----somewhere near the original.
You have never seen as many thrice and twice bent lengths of stainless steel rod------I discarded a dozen or more------single bend is easy------two angles takes thought and planning-----curves and angles, twisting and shaping exhaust pipes takes pure genius---------which I am not.
In the end I settled for just two angles on each of the eight pipes, with a twist to the left on one bank, ------a twist to the right on the other.
Learned a very valuable lesson today--------don't mess with pipes until your old enough to smoke!

So Hamilton won in Austria today--------so what, who gives a toss any more, just a bunch of overpaid self opinionated spoiled brats making Bernie and Murdoch Trillions.

Weather set fair for another week-------pool up to 80 degrees and still nobody got their bum damp, let alone wet. Definitely making it into a water cress pond year-------bloody hours of pains and aches preparing the damn thing-------all for nothing. Jackie, I got those props from Terry Topjun who used to do the AlterScale diecast motor models. Tried those Roger-------seems to me I have to look in China------Hong Kong has quite a few alloy , bronze, brass, and black and clear plastic. None of them have any sort of "Class"-----they all look to be low quality and high price.
Have to find the actual maker------the company that does the castings------buy fifty, or maybe a hundred and finish them myself.
Nobody takes pride in what they make any more-------where have all the flowers gone ? Turned to crap dear-----every one !

Summers continuing, no rain forecast for today------had to water the garden with the hose pipe this last week-----won't last long-------this is England ------home of the drizzle-----land of the rain ?

May try and get up to Kirdford today and see my old friend Bill Mouland, one of the finest wood turners in the world, he hardly ever goes out into his shop these days--------93 and chair bound and ailing fast, -----he was a real feisty old git until his wife Barbara passed away last year, then the life went out of him. Must make the effort while there's still time.

Enjoying farting about with the old "Roller" ------made in Rising Sun Land-----incredible detail both inside and out, think something quite nice may come out of this one. Picked it up at the car boot sale for a fiver, sometime last year-----stuck it on a shelf and forgot about it. Then I had a bright idea, more I think of it, the more I like it.
Now I've shot my mouth off, I have to make it "Desireable"-------sie la vie!

Wasn't that interested in "Offshore" in my younger days, way out of my league.
Wasn't until I met Pruett in Dez Embiers in '66, then Sirois in Lugano that I got even interested in the other side of boat racing.
Then when I started visiting Molinari in Como, (long before he acquired Torrigia) that I met offshore drivers like Wayne Vickers, Richie Powers, saw the factory boats and worked on some of the 32' triple outboard powered cigarette rigs . Most of the guys were circuit racers and offshore.
Closest I got to racing offshore was through reading the comics and the exploits of Doc Magoon and Rick La Mort.
Knew a number of English offshore racers through Mike Bellamy-----he was one of those people that knew "EVERYTHING" and "EVERYBODY" -----he even introduced me to Phil Rolla-----
Mike was and still is an innovator -----he could put a rig together for any occasion-----circuit or offshore.
Proof of this was winning the London ---Monte Carlo with Eddie Chater and Jim ??? Ralph Hilton put up the cash for H.T.S. All these guys were circuit racers long before they went offshore.
Just as an aside------second in the London --Monte race was Pascoe Watson and Timo Mackinon in an Avenger.
You'll have to forgive my early morning ramblings-----it's a habit I have!

Latest "OFF" golf trophy------reputed to be part of King Tuts golden hoard------the fabled single mast "Dhow" in solid gold, lost for nearly a hundred years.
You have to be in it to win it------more legendary trophies in the 2016 OFF Tourney than in the Ryder Cup!

Saw my old friend Bill Mouland yesterday--------chair bound, uses a wheeled zimmer, falls over easily and shakes like a fiddlers elbow.(Parkinson's) He still has the most wicked sense of humour I ever came across.
I usually greet him with a "nice to see you Bill".
He always replies "I'm sure it is"
Bright as a button and can remember the war years like they were yesterday-------can't remember if he ate today or not ! Asked him how old he was-----said "damned if know, pretty old though".
Glad I made the effort, even though the visit made me sad, don't have many friends like him left.

Looked at the last months efforts and decided I. Have to find something else to do, Ice cream tasting or bird watching ------or is it bird tasting and ice cream watching------trouble is, not much I can do these days.
All cruised out for this year------drive for 500 miles, then have to stop for the night, don't get the same buzz from a motor any more.
Maybe I'll wake up in a better frame of mind tomorrow ?

Rent day again-----amazing how quickly Thursday comes round, seems like three days a week are Thursday ?
Temperatures dropped to mid sixties, long pants are back on, but have shed the last cashmere in favour of a T shirt.
Feel fortunate to be able to trot if I want to, walk upright without a stick, help out the neighbours, enjoy a rock concert now and again-------eat and drink what the hell I like with no side effects!
Most of my friends are now long distance------eg: OFF------S &F----have wonderful people living in the lane over the last five years -------rambling again, must be time to get up.

Took me two days to make a trailer ------didn't like the finished article, wheels too big, stollage off centre---------why not do what they did before trailers-------stick it on the roof!.
Best trailer in the world--------proportions not far off --------would enhance anyone's mantelpiece .

Thanks for that Dave-------clever old bugger when it comes to piccies ! Where did you learn HOW TO ,
Even expensive cameras curl up and die once they fall into my hands------box brownie is about my stamp.
Kodaks don't seem to last long in the shop------they seem to have an abhorant aversion to sawdust, metal filings and greasy fingers-------and me!

Aw C'mon Stavros , Willie got more wrinkles than a pickled walnut, barrage balloons under his eyes. Snowy white beard, jugs for ears, eyebrows like he's been out in a snow blizzard all night, and a conk that Julius Caesar would die for-------eyes like pissholes in the sand, he also looks AGED , as for a bloody pigtail ????? You can tell from looking at him he never had a sainted mother and has an unhappy sex life.
Apart from that, I still don't see any resemblance whatsoever.

Gene, some time ago you posted a piccie of a wooden yellow runabout, looked a bit like a Raveau to me. Tried to find the photo, but I must have deleted it, think it had a Merc 500 with a couple of pipes. Think you could post it again for me please.

Here we go again------scrap yard Saturday, her indoors reckons it's an "Addiction"--------either that or I found a bit of fluff in the office ? If I just keep schtum and say nothing, smile and nod pleasantly, that compounds the situation !
Big family get together in Eastbourne this afternoon, one of those annual get togethers that you have to go to.

That was the last boat race I ever competed in------after the race, Marks mum walked up to the pair of us and said----"OK, that's it ! ----one of you is finished boat racing-----I don't care which one---but you will never, ever, compete with each other again" ?
We had just won the ON class in Paris------put in record laps, time and again, split the fuel tank and repaired it, won by under 100 yards after 6 hours-----
MARK AND I NEVER COMPETED AGAINST EACH OTHER AGAIN.

Good Morning Steve!!

That cute little girl is my sister--Judy Darwick--Small World!!!---A few years later, she was driving that Volvo Penta at the Stadium--1965--

Once again Mr. Kiekhaefer was not pleased as I had been leading inboard Class A by a wide margin and should have been running a little more conservatively. Consequently, a Volvo Penta won the Class. I guess I only knew one speed.....HAMMER DOWN! https://blu183.mail.live.com/Handlers/ImageProxy.mvc?bicild=&canary=YKkjx6HGn35MfRAIdmbiF3DlXh16n132KCHrXZ9NiVU%3d0&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.screamandfly.com%2fimages%2fsmilies%2fbiggrin.gif -Steve

Jackie---when you say Raveau--I immediately think of Butch

I did find a B&W piccie of him in a Raveau--powered by Merc 450--would that help??

Gene - Small world indeed. I did know that Fred Darwick & Wife ran the winning Volvo. However, I did not know that she is your sister.

Yeah, well it's Sunday Gene, got a neighbours Bar-B-Que at noon and four hours playtime till then.
Those damned Raveau's are such a beautiful piece of kit, I thought I might just cobble up a boat and motor. See if I can keep the little grey cells alive. Besides I have never before seen a four pot Mercury with Twin pipes, driven by a guy in a "Pork Pie" helmet.
What I've stitched together is purely out of my head--------450/500 Merc now looks more like the 700!
(First motor I ever raced, came on the back of a 15' Derry, YELLOW PERIL-------bought it off' Bob May).
Tried to keep the hull in timber-----probably send it to Roger H, or J. Schubert to do the paint job. I'm lousy at painting.
Whenever the name Raveau. Comes up, I think of Oligator------James Hunt------one of the best drivers America ever produced.351103
