. I really thought you had more oil in your lamp than that FUJI ..INTRODUCING!...The "ALL NEW"...2020..."Mercury Mark Marauder"...Model 3M...By Wilson Marine!! Get It While
Dont know how much you know about mold making FUJI—— this one has sixteen layers of regular glass—— comes out nearly an inch and a half thick.
No movement whatsoever——-perfect finish—— all metal framework to keep it solid—— will produce many boats without any flaws or defects.
Maybe you’ll get to see the finished article before long!
Guess it was pretty stupid to show the uninformed, a simple thing like a mold, which is ten times harder to make than any boat?https://www.screamandfly.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=454315&d=1576051953 Fuji, I really thought you had more oil in your lamp than that !!!

There are times when the all knowing don’t know quite as much as they perpetuate or purport to.454427.!!!Shes just getting too smart for her own good—- has to be checked!

No, I’m not mad, just disappointed!

Well I'll be...I guess you took my comment the exact wrong way Jackie! Not how I must have made it sound, though, I guess. I was NOT making fun of Mark's new hull mold at all! I meant it to sound like an all-new exciting boat, that was coming to market & that everyone needs one, that's all! I am VERY well versed in how a boat mold looks & how they are made, that was not my intention, to make it sound like I was mocking the mold itself. Nope. Not all. For the record, I have designed & built dozens of hull & deck molds, along with the many smaller assembly molds that go with them, as well as their support systems. All Hi-Performance, National & World Champion boats, EVERY ONE OF THEM, from 21' through 42'. You name the mold lamination schedule, technique, open and closed molds, and materials, and I have done it. I vacuum bagged molds & boats starting 40 years ago. Carbon, Carbon Graphite, Carbon Graphite Kevlar, Kevlar Hybrids of all weaves & weights, E-Glass, S-Glass, Tri-directional, Bi-directional, Veil Cloths, Matts, Aircraft Cloths, Core-Mats of all brands & millimeters, all of these incorporated & used as they first came to market decades ago, up till today. You name the brand & type of resin, promoted, and not pre-promoted with cobalt, epoxies, vinylesters, general-purpose, blends, you name it... You name the PVC Foam coring material, Honeycombs of different materials, end-grain Balsa's, Basalt's, longitudinal Bamboo's, thickness's, density's, solid or contour, perforated, all of them, and I have used them, in not only the race boats, but every single "production" boat that came out of said molds, and have built "hundreds" of parts(boats) out of those molds. No one on this site, I assure you can say they have done this. Sorry for the rant.

Now that’s weird pilgrim——- went to the village school to register my vote—— was amazed how many people were voting in the rain.
This means it’s going to be a big turnout—— it also means the rank and file are fed up to the teeth with the fiasco that parliament has made of the Brexit vote..
I reckon Boris the bumble will even get a working majority
Corbyn lives in cuckoo land and thinks he can bleed us dry to pay for his fairyland ideas.
Farage threw in the towel.
Tories should wind up with a majority of 28+ ——— but what do I know?
you might need a passport to go to Scotland...lol

Tories swept the board—- landslide victory in the end.
Liberals lost half their seats and are now even behind the Scots Dems.
Farages party did not get a single seat.
Message was loud and clear—— country is sick to the tits of Brexit !
Corbyn is dead and buried along with his anti Semitic ideals and cuckooland borrowing
Now you’ll see the pound start to climb against all currencies—- especially the dollar and the euro!

Wow— I can forgive you for the rant Fuji !
It did look like you were “pisstaking” to me .
Like I said before, I do have a tendency to fall out with people —- usually over nothing much, especially when it comes to family.
If I misinterpreted your comments then I apologise—- like I usually do when I’m wrong ( which isn’t often).
Craig quickly learned about “New” technology in fabrication when he visited the BMW F1 facility in Germany—— it went on from there—- as I understand it, what he’s doing is as up to date as it gets.

Whether they like it or not —Scotland- Ireland And Wales—- are very dependant on ENGLAND!
They all rely on hand outs and subsidies from the mother country .
Scotland wants to stay in the Eu —— that’s fine if they pay what they owe—- same with Ireland—- it’s borrowed more cash than the mint can produce.
Eighty is a hell of a majority —— all he has to do is keep his promise and get a sensible exit!
The pound will soar until the new year when the euphoria will hit reality .

End of the day Crisis, Boris is still one the Ivy League’s products—— Eton and Harrow doncher know old thing.——- Not one of the most orated individuals I ever heard——- married two or three times—— carries a dog for Christ’s sake. Long time girlfriend they kept under wraps until he won—— now they’ve let her loose.
Waffles like Donald Sinden—- promised Brexit by the end of January?
All he has to do is deliver——— unless parliament says otherwise !

Problem here Pilgrim is the fact that in spite of Sturgeon winning back a few seats and both labour and Tory losing out, giving her power in Scotland, it all counts for nothing.
WHY -because Boris has enough majority to see off any demands she ever makes!
Like her second referendum—— its NEVER going to happen! She has to get permission from Boris first— and that’s just not going to happen!

One of the things that pisses me right off at the moment——- women commentators!!!
Especially when they are talking —Rugby—- football—- American Football ! They make absolute idiots of themselves—- screeching and cackling.
I have not heard one single female that even comes close to ANY man commentating football!
maybe it’s the voice being two octaves higher—- I just know they all make a pigs ear of it—- forget the PC side of it———— they're not right—— it doesn’t work—- they are lousy at men’s football.
Maybe they should try women’s soccer or rugby —- even tiddlywinks—— but keep away from trying to do a mans job!
I cannot be the only one who thinks this!

Have been told men don't listen anyway, so it may not matter who does the commentating! ;)
Seriously now, credibility is key. If a person once played/participated in a sport, and happens to be talented with a microphone in hand, they're not usually considered another talking head - be it a man or woman. If a woman who obviously never played the game, yet gets put in the commentators chair, she has to be very articulate, very prepared, and be quick and accurate with solid questions and comments. Most I've known have worked exceptionally hard to earn their place at a network.
You've likely come across a few women who did - or could do - a great job in calling a boat race. Danika Patrick did well commentating at some Indy Car races last season... I'm sure Marit Stromoy or Tammy Wolf could offer much to boost our sport if they choose to do so someday.
Anyway Jackie, your thoughts are based on at who does a better job than another at a football or rugby match - and that's another game altogether.. Who can draw the most viewers wins out.
Cheers.

Jackie, I got to thinking about several other fine, intelligent women who participated in our sport - some by competing, like Gina Campbell and Fiona Brothers, and some who helped take boat racing to a higher level through their journalistic talent - namely Ros Knott and Zoe Trumper. These ladies knew our game inside out and were unafraid to call it like they saw it. They were just as passionate about racing as any of us - and clearly more sensitive to the dangers.
Having recently re-read some of their written commentary on the '84/85 F1 and FONDA series', they were straight forward and analytical in their reports/ articles - which no doubt rustled feathers, a good thing for driver safety and the betterment of the sport in general.
I digress (once again) - weaving off-topic here ... this has nothing to do with commentators at Football games, but that's what I like about this forum - memories surface of people and places we may never see again.

i agree with every word you said about female racers—- percentage is about 5% —— I wish it were 50% but that’s never going to happen.
point I was trying to make is—— BBC have a moral duty to put as many women on air as men—— and give them the same pay. It’s Bollocks and never going to happen, but they will die trying!
Women draw the crowds —- create controversy—- brightens up the scene—- makes the whole thing more interesting.

You we’re right to give it a miss—— weather was crap—- less than half the usual number of “Old Farts”. turned up.

Don't procrastinate my friend —- times running out—- old farts dropping like flies—I will have caught Gene up next month—- two fat ladies—— who would have thought I would have made a bingo number (88) ?
If it takes a bus to get you across the border then hire the best—- the one with a bar — beds and entertainment!! If dancing, Hooter like ladies are included, plus a roulette wheel—— go for it !
Theres not a great deal of life going on in Tavares—— besides the vintage boats and old farts. Although we did find a great Mexican restaurant just outside town—- LA CASA ,!!!

On our side we scratch our heads trying to make sense of Brexit and landslide election of your new PM. If you think hurricane Dorian wrecked stuff this year, wait until this "peachment" thing lingers into our 2020 elections. Both parties have managed to take huge BMs.

Suddenly Britain looks like a good place to live after all—— not long ago it felt a bit like “You and me against the world “——-even Donald was telling us how to run the country.
EU Eurocrats were pissing all over our Prime Minister —- laughing in her face because she had no directive or power to push the exit through.
What a difference an Election Day made !!!
Boots on the other foot this time—— Boris has total power and the back up to push any deal he cares to construct—- this time it’s Britain telling the EU what we want.
Countries from all four corners of the world are queuing up to do business with us—— the pound is climbing—- the outlooks bright for us.
Unlike the EU—- it’s worried, what to do, if Britain leaves successfully—- Whats to stop Spain, ITALY, Turkey, Greece and Portugal from quitting too ?
All one has to do is put your own house in order before interfering in other countries politics—- if we keep our nose to the grindstone and get back to working for a living, stop the bloody disruptive strikes, stop the skiving—- maybe we can get back some respect.

Today I bit the bullet and purchased a beautiful HARRISON GAP LATHE.
Ive had the South Bend for ten years and it’s served me well, but the time has come the Walrus said !
As I’ve grown more accomplished on the lathe, so I’ve noticed that the “WAGGLEMENT.” factor has increased. So I need something a little more robust —— up to date and modern.
This last roller had to be really good——- needed to up my game.
My son suggested I should take more time over the concepts—— try and do one as near perfect as I could, told me I never finished anything!
Was a bit of a wake up call—— been on this one nearly a month and I’m a long way off finished.
Promise you’ll see it here first.
Harry Selfridge was an American who opened up a department store in Kensington —— his hobby was Aeroplanes and Silver Ghost Rolls Royce’s——- thisones got his name on the jewel encrusted Brazilian mahogany trunk that adorns the luggage rack.
That gave me the idea for the next one which will be ”THE MAHARAJAH OF JAIPURS” Silver Ghost”
complete with gun rack and tiger hunting sedan chair on the roof.
Oh yes, I’m lethal when I get an idea!

No doubt about it Fuji, Le Casa is a superb authentic Mexican Restaurant—- run by a Mexican family.
Daughter is a waitress and absolutely drop dead gorgeous. I can heartily recommend it as the best eating place for miles around Tavares.
would be a lovely place to have the OFF dinner—- come to think of it —— we haven’t had a decent dinner since Jupiter!
Have to tell you Fuji—- I’ve always felt uncomfortable not knowing what to call you ? Joe , Tojo, Suji—or Kato——— always thought you might be of Far Eastern origin——- don’t suppose it’s any of my business, but you are a tad “Smarter than the average” when it comes to taking pictures, and I like to call my friends by a Christian name.!
I still call POWERABOUT “Pilgrim” because I never knew his name.
Sirois was always STAVROS—— Gary Stray has always been RATBAG—- my baby brother was called NIPPER —— even at 60 years old.
These are terms of endearment and nothing else !
But, if you want to travel through life “Anonymous” —- that’s your business.
Have a great Christmas—— May your God go with you!

Looks like we’re on the move again—— this ole house is falling down and don’t have the time to fix the hole in my roof—— or the double glazing—— or the repaint!
Its easier to find somewhere fresh to fernagle.
Onlybeen here for three years——- I usually manage four or five years before the wanderlust hits——it came a little early this time !
Must be something I ate!

Didnt like paying mortgages or renting——- that way you only pay for it the once!
When we came back from France , couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, so I rented——- that was 9 years and three houses ago.
Im now past my prime and decided to buy a house so There’s a bit of security and a great workshop.

Hope you find the right place this time 'round. Yes, great to never have a mortgage, to be sure. I knew also, many years ago, once I had the first house paid off(made double payments on a short 15 year fixed rate mortgage), I could live for free, the rest of my life. There is no other feeling like it in the world, the day you pay off the mortgage—- walked into the bank and thanked the bank manager for being a total sh-t ever since he first came to the bank! Grabbed him by the lapels and pulled him out of his chair and across the desk—— told him the interest he had charged me had paid his FECKIN wages if he lived to be a hundred! Told him to close the account and pay me the balance in cash.
It was even better than the feeling of getting laid for the first time —?

I was 50 when I retired—— then I found out what working for a living was all about —— bringing home the bacon by wheeling and dealing—— Fernagling—- cobbling ! That’s when she your wits take over and you start “risk taking” —— but that’s a whole different story, and for another day.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing—— knew exactly where to look to determine the age of the South Bend Lathe !
Amazed to find it was manufactured in September 1911 ——- long before the First World War!
Have to say, it’s nicely made——- they kept the exact format until well after the Second World War.
Managed to trap my bloody finger changing chucks—— just knew it was going to happen j——- Shoulda put some cushioning on the bed and simply spun it off and let it drop.
No wonder the electrics looked a bit archaic——- now I’m going to have to retire the whole shebang from top to bottom. Wouldn t normally mind, but this ones just to fill in for an interim period while I fernagle my final workshop and prepare it for THE BEAST .

As my sainted mother used to say—- it’s as far away as it’ll ever be ???
She was of course referring to next Christmas!
Definitely do NOT want to see, taste or hear the word “ Turkey” for another year—— I’ve stuffed myself in spite of my best efforts of celibacy ?
A BIG MAC seems positively appetising after two days binging, with a promise of another tomorrow
(Boxing Day) . Still this ones sixty miles along the coast at Eastbourne—— I’ve volunteered to do the driving—— that way there’s no booze involved.
Friday the boat reaches port and life will be back to normal—— get the south bend up and running—— the silver Ghost finished and we’re cooking with gas.
Tomorrow will be the first day I don’t go anywhere near the shop in a long while.
Saturday got more houses lined up to scrutinise——- been told that a great workshop with a small house is what I’m looking for.

Ok, so it’s Boxing Day morning and I’m not doing much until lunchtime anyway !
I laid in bed and thought I’d write a couple of hundred words about the 1979 Parker 7hour which is billed as a nine hour ?
I did this with great aplomb, when I clicked “ send”—— it told me I needed more than three and it was “too short”—— now I’m not a simple person, I always was under the impression that 100 was more than three ??? —— but in this modern age of instant millionaires from the dot dot who think up a game of tiddly checker chess and are hailed as a bloody genius——- I might be wrong!!!
whats really pissed me off, is the fact the whole soliloquy has disappeared into outer space and I completely wasted my valuable boxing morning answer question time—— only for it to bugger off into the long distance!
I decided to give it one more try without going to the “ Reply With Quote” section, so here goes!
Cosworth played their part in the 1979 Parker race by sending Duckworth himself, Ian Hawkins and Malcolm Tyrell —- along with a spare, brand fire new COSWORTH DFV V8 motor to boot!
The rig had won its last race at Chasewater—— The Duchess of York 100 miler—— beating the likes of Alfie Bullen in the factory OMC—and Tom Percival in the works Merc. So it was in good shape.
i get a call from Bedford Davie ——- how about you bring the boat to Parker if I pick up the transport costs ?
Of course it was no contest—— a chance to run Parker in a rig I knew damn well could walk it at a canter —— airfreight cost was over $12500 !
All looked well for a-good result until GG and Duckworth In their unquestionable wisdom, decided to change the gear ratio in the interest of extending the life of the gearcase ( which had never given a moments trouble since COSWORTH had take to rebuilding them after each race) .
Nobody told me anything about this until the first morning of practice—— that’s when I found out I had nothing in the prop box that Could even get me up on plane!
Bob Hetzel took my worst prop ——- cut a full half inch off each blade—- this took many hours of intensive labour under a hot desert sun!
Final result resembled a tin opener— bit it did get us up and running—- but do not slow down in the corners because it would take a mile and a half to get over the hump again!
We figured there’s only two corners —- seven miles apart— let’s go for it !
We were running pretty good —- right up there with the best of em for the first four hours—- then Duckworth decided we had better change the gearcase—— the gearcase had other ideas and for twenty five minutes refused to budge—— so that route was abandoned—— press said we came in for a tea break—— scones and crumpets ( untrue) .
Rest is history—— boat never raced again—- motor was taken out, the boat did the Ford publicity rounds until it was finally retired and sent to the Watt Tyler Maritime museum in Essex.
It was there until the museum ran out of funds——- closed , all the boats and motors were put outside, in the middle of winter,
I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS——— called Mark—— he called COSWORTH ( who had lost all interest in the boat years ago) did a deal, shipped the boat back to florida—- which is where it is today!
But that’s not the end of the story?

No, it’s a genuine COSWORTH replicated dummy display unit—- cost about £9:99 as opposed to twenty five thousand for a fresh built DFV in 1978 !

Well, when you have four kids—— 12 grandkids——13 great grandkids———— you would have thought that at least one of ‘em could have taken time out to give you a call christmas morning—— or even Boxing Day ! Not complaining—— simple fact of life, like an old jacket hung up behind the door, when you go out - you put it on, it keeps you warm, dry and comfortable. You come home, put it back behind the door, comfortable in the knowledge that it’ll be there whenever you need it —- year in, year out, never goes out of fashion—- low maintenance—-reliable.
Its there for all seasons—— “just in case”—— its a feeling thing——- you know where it is—- even if it’s not used much these days. Been out of fashion for years, too good to throw out just yet, but not fashionable enough to go to town in ! When was the last time you gave it a brush down or had that missing button sewn back on ? Nah—- its just an old jacket that you don’t have much use for —- but you don’t have the heart to discard just yet ?????
Maybe next year !!!
Was just thinking back to a time when a call to Australia or America was a £1 a minute—— but Christmas morning calls to friends and relations were sacrosanct—- you just did it—- mum couldn’t get on with the Christmas dinner because it seemed every one in the world wanted to say “Merry Christmas”. But that was then. Today you can call anywhere in the world for free, all it takes is a little time———- something that nobody has anymore!

Dismantled the lathe completely——- started with the bed—— then the tail stock ——tool post , and went mad from there.
No doubt about it the 9” South Bend Lathe is a beautiful , well made device. Very little wear anywhere . I’ve seen new ones in schools and colleges that after a years misuse were not up to this standard.
Makes me question the wisdom of buying a 13” when this thing will do everything I want.
Might just as well start from scratch with the electrics——— give it a full refit.
Havent touched the latest roller for a couple of weeks——- it just sits there looking resplendent!
Think it might just surprise most of the old farts—— even I think it’s “ Quite Acceptable”.

Just wish I’d taken more notice of what my geometry master was telling me——- forgot about the angle of dangle—— that’s where you hang the motor in animated suspension with a peripheral perception of where the airborne pulleys and the lathes static roundels should communicate and form the perfect union, ‘CEPT they didn’t !!!

Many a true word spoken in jest—— putting this damn lathe together has made me realise just how wore out this old frame of mine really is.
Come lunchtime all I want to do is rest my legs because lifting and bending has made every muscle I once had come back from the dead!
Things I could do with my eyes shut, I now need specs for.
Job I could do in an hour, now takes two days!
Task that I could whistle through and finish but left a little to be desired, won’t cut it any more. It has to be right ( in case it’s the last time ).

On the up side—— not much arthritis—— grey cells still running like clockwork—— eyesight still pretty damn good—— fifteen years since I had the cataracts done.

Grand total of ten in all—— yes, I can tell you who has them all—— SAm— Gary— Scottie B. —- Billy—
Two anonymous—- the Wilson grandkids Two left in the shop and one unfinished.

One of the reasons I tried to make a really good job of the “Rollers” is because, I sent a picture to BONHAMS the very Posh, upmarket auctioneers of one of my early efforts.

8 poles going into two quadrants that holds a curved rectangular top and the round arse end of a roller, makes for some interesting calculations ——- suffice to say I spent three hours —— most of it trial and error, replacing at least half the poles twice before I nailed it !

Had the offer on the house accepted—- knowing how the legal profession drags its heels, charges the Earth for its painfully slow processes, I estimate we can should be in residence around summertime. Early or late —- depends on whether or not the lawyers get out of bed or not!
Feel much relieved at once more owning and living in my own house again.
Renting has its advantages, but there’s an awful lot of disadvantages too !
Lots more work space for me—- I’ve been really cramped for space since the six car garage I had in France.

Nearly there John—— always find it difficult to put the lid on one of my bigger “ concepts” !
Trouble is — I usually want to get on with the next project long before I’ve finished the current piece!.
One of my many failings .
Not my place to comment on the United States President— or his policies— I do not have the right !
I haven’t forgotten “Lockerbie” or the murder of PC Fletcher outside the Iran Embassy—- the twin towers atrocity. World leaders and politicians have pussyfooted around these issues for years.
Minority terrorist organisations have got away with murder because it’s not Pollitically Correct to nuke the bastards. So I stuck it on one of my trademark mountings—— a steel pétanque Boulle——- dont look anywhere near as neglected now.
Nothing like a wing running flat —— or even reaching for the skies—— if that’s what floats your boat?

Dammit—- I have to tell you lot there—- you’re pretty bloody slow and not very observant.
Or maybe it’s me—too damn clever for my own good ( that’s what my sainted mother used to tell me).

C’mon TT you’re getting too smart —— look simple—— I’m a straight forward ordinary human bean !
It was a simple question ——- nothing smart, trick, or complicated ?

I regret that some members appear not to be taking Jay Dubbya’s post with the diligence it deserves. Please bear in mind the naughty step has plenty of room at the moment. Obviously the answer “lays in the soil”.....

And you call Yourselves “Experts” ? —— —- I know from meeting you all over the last ten years, at the Old Farts, and knowing most of you all my racing life, that your collective knowledge on anything to do with powerboats, is second to none!
In fact, I will go so far as to say, that nine out of ten of you, know the answer !

Not the answer you are looking for...but both are Hodges.
Why would that NOT be the answer ?—— they were both built by Chris Hodges !!!
Told you right from the off, it was a simple question, nothing trick or complicated——- .
Mark bought a total of five “Hodges”——- 1 Burgess—— 1 Molinari —— 2 Seebolds——- Always said the best boat he ever had was the little sprint Seebold.
Biggest DOG he ever bought was the Molinari—. Quick but unpredictable — Bertie Wik thought he could
make it work——- got all out of shape at Bristol—— ran into the wall and totalled it.
