The 18' single Molinari's were not very forgiving boats. It seemed like the first mistake you made, they would put you in the water in a hurry. The one pictured had a much nicer personality. After we got to know each other, she would let me get away with a few experiments and a few errors. She would raise her nose and quiver, just to let me know she was paying attention, but always settled back down and ran across the water in front of us.
One day I let my mind drift as she was struttin' her stuff. She wiggled and wagged, but my mind was somewhere else. Ultimately, tired of being ignored, she lifted her nose to give me one last glimpse of how she was built, came back down for a breath and then took off for the heavens.
Definitely my mistake .....If I had given her the attention she deserved, she might still be skimming over waves today.

I don't know if the behavior was different between the wood and glass versions but my glass Moli had a predictable trait. You could trim out until the front nose slope was horizontal. Anything more and you were guaranteed to blow over.

This boat got around! Back in 1968, Glastron and Molinari made some kind of deal that allowed Glastron to produce and market fiberglass Molinari tunnel hulls. The 21' orange with black twin was used for the mold. Here's a pic of the wood boat and a glass version .....
485132 ....
485131
They look the same. The glass boats ran pretty well, once earned a 2nd place finish at Havasu in 1969.
The wood boat was rigged in Oskkosh with 1250 BP's, was test driven by Gary Garbrecht and I think it's first race was the 1969 Parker 9 Hour, driven by Bob Thompson. Bob didn't do well, he never really got the boat to get up and air out. It came back to Oshkosh and was used for the testing of many different components. During that time Mr. K told Garbrecht that he was banned from test driving. We hadn't hired any factory drivers yet, so I was the lucky replacement. I spent many enjoyable hours in that boat that summer.
Bob Massey ran it with BP's at Long Beach 1969. That wasn't a good course for that boat, but I think he finished second anyway. He did know how to run that thing .....
485122
More testing and then Bill Sirois ran it at the 1969 Havasu OWC still sporting BP gearcases. He finished 3rd, beginning a remarkable three year streak of great finishes at Havasu. Bill definately knew how to air it out. :thumbsup:
485123
Over the winter the boat was painted black with grey stripes, rerigged and given a name .....Up,Up and Away :smiletest: The first activity it saw in 1970 was the Parker 9 Hour, this time driven by our favorite guy, Billy Don Pruett. I recall that we put a pair of experimental powerheads on it, but still ran the BP lower units. Pruett blew the gearcases up three different times and had to call it a day.
Behind the red Molinari .....
485125
Sirois won with it at St. Mary's, this time using speedmasters. It was really windy and rough, but that rig could get over some water. He even passed Kitson's wing on the straightaway!
From there it went to Havasu, still dressed in black and won the big prize .....
485126
After Havasu 70, Merc's PR department took over. They put some BS PR paint job on the poor thing and sent it to dealers and to shows. It took a nice picture, but I'll always believe the boat should have toured as it raced (except for the chrome stacks, they were really cool :D).
485128
Pruett wanted to run the 1971 Havasu OWC and this boat was pulled off tour for him. He modified the fancy paint job so that he could put his number on it and it was fitted with a pair of new Twister I's. Turned out the boat had developed a bad leak which gave him some grief. It also proved to be not as fast as it was (probably due to the 500 extra pounds of paint it was carrying).
He ended up blowing over and I'm pretty sure the boat was used for a weiner roast at Lake X ..... sad ending for a Champ.
485129
Did 998 run again after being used a plug for the glass version? Does this mean the Reggie Fountain's twin glass Molinari was a descendant of the 998?

Today i am extremely sad. Our Prince Phillip has died at the age of 99.
I am an absolute royalist and proud to be so.
I love my country and i am proud to be white.
If i could have chosen my origin —- its exactly what i would have chosen.
To be born in Yorkshire England—— i am an Englishman— god made it so.
Nothing and nobody is ,or are „“PERFECT“—— that‘s a fact. But my life has been as close as it gets to perfection. Could not have wished for anything better .
Some say you shape your own destiny. I wouldn’t even comment on that .
I would say one thing—— YOU HAVE TO SAIL CLOSE TO THE WIND TO GET ANYWHERE ——-

AT my time of life Roy, I’ve given up racing. Instead i enjoy remembering. The places I’ve been and the friends that i made .
My shop will soon be up and running —- this time with a bunch more room to fall about in .
Been a good thing really —- uncovered some early wings —— even before the REDWINGS —— GENE AND TED HAVE IDENTICALS—-just the mounts are different.—- about five. In all. The white canopied 700 and the twin to it —the 7000. a black DIABLO 3— And a couple of wood finish wings.
The trans- Atlantic Gentry Traveller———- WHITE TORNADO——-MTI——GEICO AND LUCAS OIL. As well as a bunch of circuit boats .
Lasse does it his way—- combining face book with S + F —— makes good figures — its not illegal—- rest of us , we just love the site. One step at a time .

Factual—knowledgable and informative. Fiercely loyal to Mercury . Woe betide anyone who disputes the fact that the MIGHTY KT pissed all over the JONRUDE ROTARY .
You will have to forgive him for being a tad “CRAGGY” —- comes from being around Pruett and Garbrecht for long periods .
Wont be long before im back in the frame —- posting nonsense —— getting it right sometimes, and then getting it horribly wrong on occasions. But does it matter ??? We are old past our sell by date boat racers. Just enjoying life .
By the way, it was Stickles 81st birthday yesterday———- a call from any of the old farts would be appreciated!!

Hey Powerabout,
I must admit, (at the time) I thought I was in the hallowed "Mercury over the Years" thread. That's why I was very reluctant to continue. The grumpy old men have certainly set me straight, since!
Yes, I raced outboards (predominantly Mercury) in the 70's and 80's. I raced short circuit, marathon and offshore. I was a member of Sydney Outboard Club (SOC), RMYC Port Hacking and AOPC.
My friends from that era include Medaris, MacIntyre, Hudson, Troy, Toyer and Evans (to name a few)

In Long Beach, CA they use to have a Match Race has the final heat race of the day.
However not in the last decade. A couple of years age I approached Ross (the Commodore) about reinstating the match race. His response was if the Long Beach Sprint Nationals had enough time in the schedule.
It has not been showcased in the last ten or more years.
However the Aussie's know how to put on a great Match Race show, featuring different classes in the same final heat race.

MITIGATING FACTORS PILGRIM !!!!!!!!!
Length of the run ?????
Dead start or rolling???????
F1 car motors could set up the telemetry for any occasion to a fine degree——— !!!
Outboards can do two things, PROP AND TRIM. plus the huge cajones that tend to favour tunnel boat jockeys every time .
Top speed ?????? Not a tunnel boat in existence that can match the top end of an F1 car.
Not counting the offshore rigs — they need a mile run before reaching anything like top end !!
Just read through that—— i sound like a really cranky cantankerous OLD bastard— I’m not really, just a tad “contentious” !!!!!

BRISTOL WAS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE V8 JONRUDES AGAINST THE V6 MERCURY.
Seebold Versus Percival——— the Merc was a tad quicker than the Rude —- Billy could have squeezed Tom on to the bouy a couple of times, too much of a “fair” [ gentleman] driver —-only a spit second between them at the finish. Just saying——- in spite of claims to the contrary, it was never a fair playing field—- OMC had far too much money tied up in the OZ spectacle to risk Mercury pissing on their parades.
Still didn’t stop them from going belly up !!!!!!!! Just saying.
Seems I recall Billy was driving a 3.4l V-6 vs a 3l V-8. Last time I checked the number of cylinders didn't win races, it is HP.

From a post I did in HOT SINGLES a couple of years ago;
I wish I could say I was actually there to witness this, but this is from the story in the POWERBOAT & WATERSKIING issue.
Bristol 1982 Bill Seebold brought one boat but (2) powerheads. A 2 litre powerhead for ON and a 2 litre powerhead bored an extra cc so he could qualify to run OZ against the OMC V-8's.
Bill won the ON class and the Duke of York trophy for the 4th time.
But the amazing story is he also won the OZ class and the Embassy Gold Cup defeating the 3.5 litre OMC V8's. According to the story they only had about 17 minutes between the ON and OZ heats to change the powerheads. For the OZ final Seebold just made it to the starting dock a few seconds before the 1 minute gun with Leo his mechanic still on the boat fastening the cowl - Leo literally had to jump off the boat into the water.
Seebold later admitted that this was the most demanding and hardest race he ever drove. The Bristol crowd and even the OMC drivers were truly amazed.
I think there is also a really good POWERBOAT article about this race with a headline something like "SEEBOLD DEEP SIXES THE V8's".
Although I wasn't in Bristol in 1982 to personally witness this, I was there I think it was 1983 and it was spectacular !!
Perhaps Jackie was there in 1982 because Mark Wilson finished second to Bill in the ON class.

That race was most likely the greatest thing any driver ever accomplished in one weekend. There are several youtube vids of the F1 and F2 heats.

Billy once told me that the 2 litre ON motor was quicker than the bored out 2+ litre motor he used in the final race.
as Mark said long ago—“if it wasn’t for that damned Seebold ,i could have been famous”
He actually finished second to Billy a total of five times at Bristol .
Billy could run his Seebold harder than any other driver , he was always 10/10ths at Bristol .
Steve West and Leo did the motor swop in record time —— there were no RATTLE GUNS in those days, just nimble fingers and a will to win.
dare not tell you how much cash Billy stashed away on his body ——- ?????only Parkinson could do that.

”COLLATED”. Huh!— as Pruetts daughter used to say—- THATS ONE OF THOSE BIG WORDS, LIKE HELIOCOPTOR AND MAYONNAISE!“. Why use a little word like „“SAVE“ when you have big words like „“COLLATED“ you can use——-.
Parky has just about every item of competition clothing MERCURY ever produced ———remember the red sports jacket, to be used only at formal presentations. And the silver barrage balloon material jackets all mercury personnel had —— Belts, ties and shirts, hats and badges—- he has more than Mercury has. Records, dates and photos of every FONDA and Canon race —- complete with pictures of every driver ever to run a Merc in a FONDA race.

Not quite right Johnno—— Billy was running a bored two litre V6, to comply with the new RULE OMC introduced to the OZ class. Capacity suddenly had a MINIMUM CAPACITY!!!!!!!!
PREVIOUS TO THIS TIME OZ WAS UNLIMITED AND WITHOUT A MINIMUM CAPACITY.
Was always told that the minimum V8 horsepower was way over 400—- even with a 3 Litre V8 ??????? Or was that just publicity?????? .
Pity the factories could never agree on anything. OMC threw the dollies and said you can’t play in my game——— .
Fonda series had proved itself to be the best series ever , costing Mercury very little .
OZ series went through five million in three years—— great for the teams —- bubble had to burst and did in a big way. Plenty commissioners in the UIM had to look elsewhere for a supplement to their earnings . Rolfe Fraulin in particular.

This is the entry list for Bristol-Embassy GP 1977. (I was there racing a brand new Molinari with Volvo/Konig power in the OE class)
Long before the OMC V8 and also before the Merc T-4.
You can clearly read ON 1500cc -2000cc...OZ - 2000cc upwards.
Every class has a minimum cc including OZ.
Boat Mercury and OMC raced the OZ class.
Now to 1982 when Mr. Bill did a fantastic job and won the OZ class.
(I was there racing F3/OE.)
This was the second year for OMC V8 drivers and Bristol was always early in the season. This was back when the V8 used a 12 inch mid section and carb powerhead..Very top-heavy and the boats was not yet designed right for the V8. Molinari was probably the only one in his titanium boat.
We can all speculate but the 6 inch mid section and the more powerful fuel injection powerhead would have been way more fit for Bristol..(last picture) but was not available 1982.
Funny is..the new Merc F1-V8 4 stroke is using a 12 inch mid section...good luck with that..!!

johnno, i didn’t make the rules , or write them, i simply kept within the rules . The ON rules that you must not exceed 2,000 cc!! When i raced ON that’s exactly what i did .
quote for an outboard ——— it must be removable from the boat— complete with its drive ???????
I adhered strictly to the rule book
Same with the OZ- strictly according to the rule book. The DFV was a three litre motor, so it had to run in the OZ class——-All the Cosworth engined boats i ran were scrutineered by a registered UIM scrutiniser . Without that certificate —- there was no way you could put the boat in the water !!!!!!
Not absolutely certain, but i think only the APBA ran KT class—-only in the USA i never heard of a UIM class for The KT’s’, Could have been added after my time. If i read it wrong, i apologise .
Yes, i do have the balls to complain about the UIM—— it has never done anything for me that didn’t cost. THe stupidity of SOME of its commissioners beggars belief . [ there were a few HONEST ones —- but they were rare as rocking horse sh-t.

Hi Lassie — nice of you to call !!!!
Before Bristol there was no such thing as the FORMULAS ——-was purely the brain child of CHARLIE SHEPPARD .
He invented it [or them if you like}.
Spectators found it hard to understand the different classes , so Charlie made it simple for them —— no longer the complex lettering of the various capacities —- or shapes — ie V bottoms or tunnels . So he came up with the simple idea of Formula ONE —tWO—-three and four.
limit for Formula one was set at two litres .
Was hugely successful—— so much so, the UIM decided to adopt the formula idea and write it in the rule book !!!!!!!!!!
That’s when the jiggery— Pokery started . For two years there was an upper limit on race boats of two litres —— sport was controlled until then.
Then they wanted a 2,5 limit ——- then a 3 litre —- then a four litre , then twin engines . The whole thing was out of control. You could race with unlimited number of motors ——- unlimited capacity.
They simply ran under the old HYDROPLANE OZ CLASS . YOU RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG ????
THATS WHEN THE ON WAS LIMITED TO 2 LITRES ——- OZ WAS ANYTHING OVER TWO LITRES .INCLUDING TWO LITRES ?????????? As can be seen in your postings Lasse !!!!
Right up to the time OMC changed the OZ class to OVER two litres —— 15 minutes between heats —- very slim chance indeed of getting the boat out and swopping Powerheads — and getting the rig to the start line in time . BUT THE TEAM DID JUST THAT,,,,that Billy „“BIG SIXED THE V8‘S WITH A BORED OUT TWO LITRE!!!!!!

Here, here I say!
In the early 80's I attended the Australian National Outboard titles at Wagga Wagga in country New South Wales. My friends Troy & Halliday were running their Merc powered Tunnel in both classes as well.
Somehow, I became recruited to assist in the removal and replacement of the powerheads between races. I was the person who plucked the V6 off the Mid (by hand, well a bear hug actually!) and then assisted with mounting and bolting of the slightly bigger V6.
Yes, we the made the switch in time and of cause.. their boat Challenger VI won both classes! That's a fact!

Bill managed to borrow a million pound mannequin from the British motor research to drop test the cell. Well, he succeeded in killing the Mannequin, after dropping it into the water from 50feet .

now take a look at the field of runners ——— eight three litre RUDES [ ONLY SIX TURNED UP ]—- A COUPLE OF COSWORTHS—— THE REST WERE ALL 2LITRE MERCURYS——- RUNNING OZ ????????
scroll down to the next page—- there it says OZ class is OVER 2000 CC. THATS THE DAMN POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE—-
Reason for all this is the simple fact that six RUDES at Bristol would not make much of a show !!!!!!!
Unfortunately the 2 litre Merc was beating the three litre RUDES ——— THATS why the rules were changed !!!!!!!!!

Good point about 6 inch mid?!! A 6 inch mid would have caused a redesign of the APX swivel and trim casting and the overdrive box (height) wouldn't fit either. Wonder why they didn't do that since the top of the #6 gearcase is completely different anyway? If I remember correctly, the first V8 six inch mid center swivel castings kept cracking and breaking?

Jackie, facts and details are important and make a statement into a story. Thanks for those.
As we know, "It takes a village to raise a child" - and, as you point out, numerous organizations and people were involved and must be credited for the cell's ultimate development. Chris Hodges led the pack and, together with Cees appeared at Munich in May 1985, the first race of the season, towing brand new team boats with safety cells. David Burgess was still working on his, and by September in Milan, I was strapped in. From my count, I believe there were only 10 or 11 F1 drivers racing with cells that year.
As for investors, OMC, via PRO ONE, provided significant funding to several teams to ensure F1's success in '85. Safety was paramount given the tragic year we had in '84. Team Percival Hodges Racing, as others, were benefactors, so directly or indirectly, OMC was at the very least an enabler in this process.
All-in-all, 1985 was a significant year for boat racing. Sadly, several F1 drivers died and others were badly injured before the bull was taken by horns. I wonder how many lives have since been saved over the past 36 years thanks to this single development? One thing is certain; Be it circuit or offshore, inboard, outboard, jet, whatever... today's drivers and their families are the better for it.

Biggest blunder the APBA did was to include the cockpit specs within the safety section of the rulebook. Certified cockpit builders was a bungled afterthought. Garbrecht and Seebold got me out of a paperwork pickle thanks to the nearsightedness of the APBA.

Afraid i was one of the doubters——- told Hodges he was crazy, who in their right mind would want to be strapped into an upturned boat. We had one or two heated discussions on the subject.
Ok, so i was wrong—- wasn’t the first, certainly wont be the last time i was wrong about something .
Once in a hundred is 99 percent right—— i can live with that !!!!!!!
—
Hodges was a great innovator. Adjustable wings — tail fins ——most of his ideas were dubious to say the least. But, he never made a red cent out of the capsule, or safety cell. It was free for all boat builders, worldwide .
He would nail the silliest little add-ons —- strakes—rubbing rails —- wind deflectors, he never stopped trying.
Must be in his 80‘s now —— last time i saw him, he was helping Mark in Stuart, draw up the design for“MOONLIGHT LADY“. High speed 50‘ boat.

Jackie, four decades ago we were all doubters. Those concerns will always be there. If any driver doesn't fear being strapped in and unconscious underwater, they are missing an important life-appreciation chip. Survival at that point depends solely on the rescue team. Thank goodness we had the commitment of the Ospreys - it was a massive responsibility on their shoulders, as it is with every rescue team and race organizer around the globe.
The risk of crashing will always be high. Chances are that cells and enclosed cockpits offer a higher level protection than nothing at all - Quite sure that Chris Hodges had a few "damned if you do, damned if you don't" decision-making moments himself back then. At the end of day, we still need to depend on others, hopefully experts in their field, to keep us safe.
How lucky we were that Chris Hodges hung in after he lost his dear friend, Tom Percival. Truly a great man and innovator.

CHARLES RYDAL SHOOTER ——-Chas to all his friends, was twenty years old when he decided he wanted to be my mechanic . Grammar school kid , super intelligent, good at everything. Understood electrics and electronics . Had the patience of JOB. We wandered round the world together , me breaking things, him fixing things . I BLAMED HIM FOR EVERYTHING!!! He was my safety valve . Best friend, confidante. Kept me out of trouble , and got me out when i got into. Could speak french fluently, but with a distinct English overtone ! A truly quintessential English gentlemen.
I decided i had to concentrate on the garage business for a couple of years . That was when Chas went to Tom and Bob as spannerman. He loved his time with them. We remained friends up to the week he died .
Had some beautiful girlfriends —- but never married .
Highlight of his life was the trip to Valleyfield in 1976—-
I have given Chas a special place in the book—- a whole chapter , about the life and times with CHARLES RYDAL SHOOTER. Was the single biggest influence in my life too.

You could not be around Chas without laughing— he could brighten up even the darkest of days.
He even turned down the job Mercury offered him. Preferred to stay home and look after his mother—
THE DUCHESS as he always referred to her.
He did race boats, for years, but loved tinkering with motors more, if you want to know more about Chas, you“ll simply have to wait and read the book.

Fuel and Oil prices dictate the trajectory of the Automotive Industry.
~~~
At the end of 1956, following fuel rationing brought about by the Suez Crisis, Alec Issigonis (engineer and designer) was ordered by Sir Leonard Lord (chairman of British Motor Corporation) to bring the smaller car, XC/9003, to production as quickly as possible. In August 1959 the car was launched as the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven, which soon became known as the Austin Mini.
In later years, the car would become known simply as the Mini. The Mini went on to become the bestselling British car in history with a production run of 5.3 million cars. This ground-breaking design, with its front wheel drive, transverse engine, sump gearbox, 10-inch wheels, and phenomenal space efficiency, was still being manufactured in 2000 and has been the inspiration for almost all small front-wheel drive cars produced since the early 1960s.
In 1961, with the Mini gaining popularity, Issigonis was promoted to Technical Director of BMC.
Dan Gurney one of my favorite American racer and car builder. A winner of four F1 Grand Prixs.
After a spell with the US army in Korea during the early 1960s, Gurney threw himself into club racing on the west coast of the USA, eventually going to Italy for a test drive at Modena in a Ferrari sports car. He pressed all the right buttons and by 1960 was a member of the Ferrari F1 team, then switched through BRM, Porsche and Brabham to fielding his own elegant Eagle machines, one of which carried him to a fine victory in the 1967 Belgian GP at Spa. It was the high point of Dan’s illustrious career.
Jackie, did you ever let Chas take any of your boats for a spin? If I were the wrench I would be like, "I fixed it so I am going to test it now".
If Chas had ever wanted to take any of my boats for a spin — he could have .
Chas was a very accomplished driver in many classes. He bought a 1250 bp and put it on the back of a 16’Levi. Always stayed around his local circuits.
Sold him Dave Minty’s 13’ Shakespeare—— in my opinion, the most beautiful single seater EU ever produced, and a 50 Merc as a motor .
He then bought Colonel Peter Tejera’s little green Shakespeare cat—- for some strange reason, he never did get it to perform.
Had a couple of ALBATROSS aluminium boats— a two seater and a four seater . Both with Coventry Climax engines .
He then went to a fire station sale and bought six high output fire pumps —- asked him why in the hell he bought obsolete pumps????? Told me they all had climax engines !!!!!!
Chas’s first love was ‘OFF ROAD RACING’— he would take any old Range Rover or lightweight Land Rover. Drive it to a meeting —take part— always finished middle of the pack, then drove it home. Loved machinery and always treated his vehicles with care.
Treat a motor like you would the woman you love and it will treat you the same.
Never heard Chas raise his voice, or fall out with anyone ——— he was just one of those rare people who everyone loved .
Always claimed SHUNKS was his special friend >
"He lapped me" ..... I know about Sanders in a boat, but am having a little difficulty swallowing Surtees on two wheels. Next you'll probably claim Fangio with four wheels.
‘Twas a rainy day at Brands Hatch. Probably thirty riders in the novice “run what you brung” event. All sorts of bikes , even the odd race bike —— Pete Tester had swopped his 7R AJS for a PORCUPINE . Pete dropped it on the flooded track and was cross at the world . Told him he was riding it like a big girls blouse—- was one of those “IF YOU THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER MOMENTS” ——- me, being twenty years old and the dingleberry i can be sometimes, took it on. Was a race of attrition , carnage , crosswinds and hailstones, with a bit of sleet throw in for good measure .
Just before the finish, a 250 RDG SPECIAL howled past me and took the flag —— was actually the very first time i had even heard of JOHN SURTEES . He was still a teenager. I never ever again entered a motorcycle competition of any kind .
Car racing was something you only read about —— although seeing as how WILLABEE mentioned it ——— Fangio would visit his friend BILL SHORT . He owned Southwater garage before i did . Bill was BENTLEY race team manager just before the Second World War . Yes, i knew him quite well for many years.
Gene is your Front Right Tire on your Midget (I think that is what that class is called) larger/wider than the inside front tire?
It looks to be almost the same size as the back tire (or its an optical illusion for me).
~~~
A lot of circuit boat race courses are left-hand turns.
So why does not some tunnel boats have a wider starboard sponson (then the port-side sponson)?
It would help keep the boat from leaning less in a left-handed turn, and probably less prone to barrel-rolling.

Gene why did you chose Boating Racing over Car Racing?
Were you influenced by your uncle Lee and his brother Troy?
Also in the race car photo, the tall lever mounted on your left side what is that used for?
Braking or engaging the transmission, or is it to adjust the chassis roll-bar, those are some of my novice wild guesses.
My favorite uncle Lee---and his brother Troy Wollard---were world famous boat builders---
Half a lifetime ago--I wanted to be a world famous RACE CAR driver!!

“About six weeks later I was offered and took the second AZ (AstraZeneca) shot, but with a little more knowledge of the dangers,” he continued. “Needless to say the reactions were disastrous, my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks, I feared I would never play again, (I suffer with peripheral neuropathy and should never have gone near the needle.) But the propaganda said the vaccine was safe for everyone....” said Eric Clapton

The Pfizer blend is a full up bulldog. 2nd shot had me feeling fatigued for 6 weeks. I know what "brain fog" is now too. Drove my blood pressure all over the map. My 2nd dose was 2 weeks after the 1st. Now they are saying the Pfizer 2nd dose should be 9 weeks later, not 2. Figures.:confused:

Still talking June 21st to the end of lockdown —- dont hold your breath . Complete cock - up at Heathrow airport, returning holiday makers are locked in quarantine for two weeks at costs of up to £10,000 per person. Stunning end to two weeks in Spain ——— i know some folk are getting nil desperandum for the sun —— but its all getting a bit out of hand !!!!!!!!
Me, myself will not be jumping on the first plane out of here —— think i will let the rush die down a bit first—- make sure i can get back in again , before i leave. Without it costing my life’s savings !!!!!!!
Several folk dont seem to understand , is the fact that ————-furthest point from the sea anywhere in England is approximately 70 miles . So seafood is available everywhere . Used to be the fish and chip shop DIDNT open Mondays , as the fishermen didn’t go out catching fish on a Sunday . Whether that still happens on a Sunday or not—-i have no way of knowing . Even Woolworths were closed all day Sunday. But that was then, when we were CIVILISED —— long before the advent of knife crime and BLM—— AND TEENAGERS slaughtering each other for reasons nobody knows —— or have long forgotten.
can’t get settled in to the workshop for some strange reason. I have what i have always longed for—- the perfect workshop. Not another damn thing i need . BLESS YOU FUJI WILL CONCEDE ITS A BIT OF UP MARKET, DOESN‘T EXACTLY REEK „“CLASS“ AND ELEGANCE THOUGH——— AND ITS A TAD DATED . BUT— THE FODDER DOES LOOK CLASSY———
—wholesome and EDIBLE
New upmarket places pop up all the time in England——- afraid the jock they serve is simply enhanced with red sauce out of a piping tube instead of slapping the arse of a ketchup bottle!!!!!!!
Prices of a half tidy lunch have gone up from £15/20 ——— to a whopping £40/50 .
Yes ,i do know . Eating houses are going to try to make up for lost time with price hikes —— but they have to be careful the worms dont turn!!!!!!!!!
Food i get served at home is superior to the crap i was served last time out.
Even the price of the humble fish and chip supper has gone up by a third .
On my twice weekly visits to the recycling facility [scrapyard] i see stainless catering units -worktops and ovens, where another restaurant has gone to the wall.
An 8oz filet steak at home costs me a tenner ———- same thing in any eating house starts at thirty five quid —— why the hell would i go out to eat [ unless some other bugger‘s paying ].
I must remember to show you some of the newer eating places that have sprung up around CHICHESTER.
There have always been classic restaurants like CARLUCCI and RAYMOND BLANC—- INDIAN—-CHINESE ——- TAI and GREEK. —— SANDWICH BARS ——- SUBS——
But since BREXIT there is a new breed of seafood supplier started up in business——FISHERMEN —- crafty entrepreneurial sailors who own their own boats, have started employing the best chefs , to put together packages of expensive fish at cheap prices —- usually boxes start around £50 — to £100, delivered overnight . That means its fresher than going to a fishmonger , and a hell of a lot cheaper .
Just what this has got to do with the price of a new all electric MERCURY 250 horsepower, i have no idea?????? Have you ??????

DONT suppose many of you are aware of the fact that here in the UK , we get FREE medical care and hospital treatment . We do have to pay for ongoing medication [unless you are over 70, then its for free]. It‘s called the NHS. [ national health service] .. it cost‘s TRILLIONS to keep it running.
doctors and nurses from all over the world scramble to get a job there.
Point im getting to is... its not the doctors and nurses that are getting the money ——[nurses have to pay to use the car park every day] Not the hospitals —-or the equipment !!!!!
ITS THE BLOODY ADMINISTRATION THATS TAKING ALL THE MONEY. PAY FOR ANYONE IN ADMIN IS OBSCENE !!!!! MORE THAN ALL THE NURSES AND DOCTORS PUT TOGETHER ..
In the old days Hospitals had an overall chief ——-MATRON—— she was god on high. Ran everything on her own ,was totally in charge and ran, was responsible for everything .
they reckon it takes 100 admin workers in every hospital to do the same job matron did.
Nurses were the fighting cause that saw off the covid pandemic ——— have been offered a lousy 1percent increase in pay ————-fat cat administrators have ten and twenty percent increases —- on top of the million pound salaries and five million retirement pensions after five years 1!!!!!!!!!!!
Something is not quite right somewhere———- first thing they should do is give all nurses and doctors free car parking. It’s a feckin disgrace ,at the minute.

Today is my little sisters 70th birthday.
I can remember quite clearly when, just after the war, my mother presented me with a baby sister — ANGELA— and two years later did it again. This time with another girl. JANET.
TIME FOR ME TO FLY THE NEST???
by this time i had sold the THUNDERBIRD and graduated up to a red MG TC, UNFORTUNATELY it was having an engine rebuild in dads garage, so i had to make the long trip south on a regular bus.
wasn’t long before Mum-Dad-and the rest of the family followed me south.
We have all lived south of London for the last seventy years .
Today, my daughter Sam , is putting on a birthday bash for Janet — it will be held at the beach house in ELMER . Not to worry — i will let you know how it goes . It could go on well into the night —-all my relations are great party people —— law says we are only allowed six relations to attend-a party, due to feckin covid ???????? I was still correct! (with all due respect)
As you well know, there have been a very small number of "year models" produced, where their has been very little (or no) cosmetic differences.
Those years that come to mind are:
70&71 72&73 76&77.
Now we all know what the boffins were "playing with" in that group of years! (2.4)

Like it or not there was a power/capacity race going on at that time between OMC and Mercury—- personnel were changing sides like footballers changing teams.
UIM had set the top limit for racing at 2 litres in Europe —— mercury were the dominant motor in that class. [omc did have a very quick but unreliable 2 litre —- hand built and fragile, known as “THE GRENADE”].
w
We never saw a 2.4 Mercury over here until years later—— they were OZ unlimited class.
OMC were Running their 3 litre in the OZ class .
RUDE brigade said they weren’t interested in running a 2litre motor ——- UIM tried to bring about a touch of sanity by making 2000cc the top capacity. But what with large backhanders and bent politicians, they failed miserably .
Rotary came along, which as far as i know nobody yet has been able to decide on how it should be measured ?????? Just put it in the OZ class—- which is simply a RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG , RUNAWAY CLASS,, IN FACT PUT TWO OF THEM—- OR FOUR — OR TEN OF THEM ON THE TRANSOM——- ITS STILL LEGAL !!!!!!!!!!
THEN GARBRECHT SWOPPED SIDES——— OMC V8‘S APPEARED —- the carnage started and didn’t stop until OMC went to the wall.
Some might call it a success, I call it a total failure —— was nearly the death knell of powerboat racing as i knew it
I did not have a lot of time for the promotor of the OZ series and as usual let the fact be known to said person. [i have a nasty habit of doing this] .
Parkinson was the only honest promoter in powerboating ——- thats why he was never popular with the UIM—-or the RYA, he couldn’t be „BOUGHT‘.
Enough of all this, i have an idea for a new concept !!!!!!

Winning boat that year was the last 100 hp mercury. Boat was the NEW 16‘ LEVI designed —— SOUTER built, cold moulded ply of John MERRYFIELD and LEN MELLY.
These boats dominated the scene until the tunnel boats came along.
first real tunnels in England were —- first TORRIGIA—- second SCHULTZE——-third MOLINARI.
Although John MERRYFIELD did run a PROUT CATAMARAN with a pair of 35 up Mercs on the back in the early sixties at the BOATBUILDERS TRIALS in the early sixties [‚61 i think]. Unfortunately the UIM and RYA did not have a class to run them in—— nobody thought of using the hydro, O series until later.

Question Jackie - Was Adrian Baily racing then and did you known him well? Adrian moved to Canada at some point and I met him in Peterborough, 1971 or '72. He could certainly drive his Levi .. and being so narrow, that hull didn't look easy easy!

After Adrian Baily somehow Reg Hillman ended up with the Levi but I don't think Reg ever did anything with it. With my help Dave Lovell bought it from Reg and again Dave had plans but never ran it. My friend Ian Crisp bought it from Dave Lovell, put an in-line 150 on it and had fun with it on Lake Simcoe. Not sure if you remember but Ian Crisp took it to Penetang in 1979. Ian drove heat #1 and I drove heat #2. Not sure anyone watched the first few FJ boats because everyone was watching and being fully entertained by Ian and myself trying to control the Levi - a wild ride and way too much fun to be legal !!!

Knew Adrian quite well, though not as well as his brother JULIAN. They shared a Levi 16 PHAEDRA. PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY CHRIS KINGSBURY —- Think they both emigrated to Canada—- Bill and Margaret Benson followed them .
I bought PHAEDRA —— RAN IT IN THE LONDON RACE——— sold DON ROSS the MOLINARI. He won, I finished nowhere .

Did this concept quite a few years back—packed it, plus a dozen others in a tin trunk and forgot about them. Brought them all to light in the recent move .
RIVA is just a thought on what sort of a boat they might have turned out , had they ever gone offshore. ?????
Michelob came to light —- another long forgotten concept—— along with TOM GENTRYS AMERICAN EAGLE TRANS-ATLANTIC .
DAMN, BUT I HAVE A SHED -LOAD OF STUFF TO MOVE IF IM EVER GOING TO MAKE ANYTHING ELSE !

JW - did you see F1 in Baku yesterday? The last 30 minutes was the entire race. Pirelli will be burning their night lamps the entire week. Speaking of burning, Lewis Hamilton had the race on a silver platter until he torched his brakes for a 2 lap restart? Couldn't believe I was seeing this?:eek:

Somewhere in Chinkywoo province , lives an idiot with an IQ of 200+ —- but with less common sense than that of the average bed louse .
There is no other explanation for anyone creating the Lego disaster that i was sent as an apology for a gazebo !!!!!!
Wasted two days erecting a construction that should have taken two hours.
Yes, i did have the destructions in front of me the whole time —— they might just as well have been written in ancient Hebrew or Greek hyrogliphics for all the use they were .
There are one thousand ,seven hundred and forty seven ways to get the erection wrong——-but only one way to get it right .
My headmaster at Halifax Junior Technical School——— WILLIAM ROCHESTER HASWELL, [NUFFER]. Along with his Faithfull sidekick MR.SCHOFIELD [SCOFFERS]. Would have been proud of me for the intrepid way i carried myself yesterday.

I have to smile to myself W.Z.—- Hamiltons run of 54 point scoring races comes to an end ——- By default Vettel Comes second ——— he is suddenly a big hero ???????????? What’s all that about ?
seven times world F1 champion ——- 100 pole positions ——-98 wins———done more of everything than any other driver ever has ———-still they knock him.
No, i dont agree with all the BLM nonsense ——- I’m white ,proud of it and shout WLM —-so go buck a fuffalo. Doesn‘t mean that Hamilton is any less of a driver .
saw some idiot posting on facebook—-„“IM GLAD HE LOST“——- so are a lot of other folk. Five will get you ten the little sh-t will rech 100 wins this season.
another five will get you ten that vettel wont make the podium again EVER .

Those eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed a rather large flaw on the near side sponson of the RIVA TUNNEL . This was right there from the beginning , but it was such a handsome piece of mahogany that i decided to let it ride —- simply see what transpires . Which is what i did ,and why there is a flaw .
on reflection - maybe i should have just binned the chunk of wood !! But at that time , it was all i had , plus, it was the last piece of my sainted mothers WALNUT table —- that turned out to be mahogany!

erecting a bloody comic cuts leggo style Gazebo makes my arm ache !!!!!!
Still trying to fathom out , how the hell i fix the sunscreen without totally losing my sanity.
SUPERSHED still looks like a midding —— nowhere near tidy inside yet. Really should make a concentrated effort, get it exactly the way i want it ———one day.

Not even my most enthusiastic grandchild would take that on Pilgrim——— I left about fifty concepts with my mate NIGEL when i Left BOUZIGUES ten years ago in 2011—-
I loaded my daughter SaMS place up in LOXWOOD with another thirty——-some six years ago ‘
I have a trunk full of boat concepts that i packed to send to my son in Florida——- he already has thirty or more and doesn’t really want them, postage alone is $200+ —— sooooo— we have this situation whereby there’s 20 concepts—— nobody wants—— all packed and ready to go —— but—- why the hell would i pay $200 to send a trunk full of concepts to anywhere ???????????
Sorry Pilgrim ——-thats what my sainted mother used to call —-A GOOD HIDING TO NOTHING!!!!!!

ROUGH count up yesterday—- around fifty pieces skulling the new shop [not counting those in the trunk]. Finally have the main workbench clear and tidy, all ready to start producing “SOMETHING”?
just have four more to go before I’m home and dry.
New lathe is all dusty—-i forgot to put the cover on it. Now here’s the rub. I didn’t put the cover on because i wanted to clean all the dross away first. Time goes on , it gets covered in dust. Back to the old chicken and egg situation .!!!!!!!!
temperature today forecast to top 80. Degrees—— tomorrow 0ver 85, i need to get the sunscreen over the gazebo fixed ——— its just draped over the framework at the minute —— even a gentle breeze and it’s flapping about all over the garden.
even with the doors and window open SUPERSHED was bloody hot inside ——- i played with the iPad —- discretion is getting to be one of my strongpoints ——- although i did fall out with a potential customer yesterday . Dickhead insisted he couldn’t make the shop until after noon———so i told him to leave it until after 2pm——- thats when the trouble started `!!!!!!!
OF COURSE THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT ——- UNTIL I DONT THINK HE IS .

Had one of those lazy good for nothing Sunday’s—- took the lounger out of the shed and laid under the awning for an hour, felt good. Second hour began to fidget—- not good . Lunch , then settled down to watch England play Croatia in the European cup. For a wage bill of five million quid a week, i expected more . Tired after 90 minutes play ??????? For the sort of wages those guys are getting , even at 89 years old i could have done better .
I’m told the the only thing that matters is the result ——-err in whose opinion ???? Ok. So they won —- if thats the sale purpose of the game ,then thats me done. I would sooner watch my great grandson MAX play for Brighton Academy .
Must be getting old ——- right ONIVA —- had my day of rest— decided on the next project —- head down— arse up and tally -ho, as Percy used to say.
