Gordon Murray, designer & builder, and Niki Lauda.
The designs I like are, "simple, lightweight, and purposeful", Gordon Murray.

Murray lives in a one-bedroom house, with a 22-car garage.

Was almost impossible to find the cars i am looking for . There is no such thing as a Gordon Murray model car !!!!!!!
That particular concept has ten cars ——- size has to be compatible——— marques in the same bracket—ie SUPERCARS .——. There is a race on Members day at Goodwood each April —just for GMA’S
{GORDON MURRAY AUTOMOBILES}
I have no idea whether or not there was a trophy given at the end of the event . Prize giving and dinner went on way past my allotted snooze time. Anyway—i made one !!!!! Can be raced for annually —or simply given away at the end of the event .
Would not imagine for one moment that cost even enters the equation as each one of the competing cars are well over a million sterling apiece.
Plus they are decidedly RAPID !!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda like the tunnels you drove. Watch the cross winds or you will "barrel roll" just like a tunnel outboard.
What do you mean “JUST LIKE AN OUTBOARD” !!!!!!??????? ——-I have the paperwork to prove it actually was an outboard —- and conformed to all the UIM published rules!!!!
Everything required in the OZ class.

Holy crap and corruption ——-shop is just like the day we drove to Palm Springs in ‘71 100 with midges and rising temps. Was ok this morning when it was a tad overcast but i could fry steaks on the worktop this afternoon.
Did manage to parcel up the Garbrecht/ DAVEY record boat for “PILGRIM” — STILL NEED THE EMAIL AND POSTAL ADDRESS AS WELL AS A CONTACT NUMBER before it can be posted ——-thats on top of the normal expensive rigmarole to send parcels anywhere these days .

Managed to put the finishing touches to “The Gordon Murray”—— has A rake of Ferraris—-Lamborghinis—-Maclarens and An Aston in there somewhere .
One outa three on a Sunday ain’t three bad.
Its all in the email I sent the other day
Cheers

Forgot to tell you , i bought a HOBIE TIGER CAT last week —— was intended for my Daughter Sam but she reckons its a tad too “SPORTIVE” for her ??????????
Be interested to hear what some of the old farts have to say about this particular raft ????
Does have everything with it of course— Road trailer —launch trolley —- and a lunch box !!!!!!

Yeah—-well that was last month, when i was younger and enthusiastical—— you never done anything on ‘IMPULSE” ??????
’Tis over a year since i had the last mad fit of depression and bought the “FIREBLADE”—- needed help from my grandson SIMON to get out of that one, but i did.
Lets face it —— there’s not a lot going for “growing old”. You just have to pretend you’re not——then you wake up in the back of an ambulance ——- or buy a “SHELBY COBRA” and face the wrath of the “ROTWEILER”
Suppose i am trying to justify buying a HOBIE 18’ TIGER !!!!!!!
THERE WERE MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES !!!!!!!!!!!

In addition to being a first rate BS slinger, I happen to have some experience with blow boats. Thank God you didn’t get a 14 foot Hobie with no jib they are almost impossible to come about in. Make sure you take someone with you that has some experience. In fact, your best bet Jackie has to sit on the shore and watch someone sell the boat with your luck. You’ll wrap the mainsheet around something that you can’t afford to lose and get yanked off the boat. Not that I wish you any bad luck, but selling a high-performance boat is just like getting in a tunnel boat at our age not advisable sell that boat as fast as you can and take the money and charter a luxury catamaran, either in the Caribbean or the Seychelles, or the Maldives for a week with a proper captain and crew. Money better spent and you’ll have a better time we’re going to discount cruise out of the port of Miami when you’re over here for the Key West races. take my advice from an old time smuggler sailor you don’t need to be on anything that you can’t point directly into the wind and motor about. Sincerely, Amberjack.

Now i know exactly why i never went sailing and chose exactly where and where i could not go. It’s always been with a motor and it’s too damn late to change now ..
Two things i always kept away from—HAY BURNERS AND SAIL BOATS !!!!!!!!!!
Without a doubt the most expensive thing i ever made acquaintance with was an ARAB —— lovely thing—— i had a dozen empty stables and a teenage daughter who had already cost me a kings ransom learning to ride HAY BURNERS —- but she had this friend who was going to Australia for a month and needed someone to care for the ARAB !!!!!!!!!WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG ??????? Biggest mistake i ever made in my life —- we had a nice 5 acre paddock and a couple of fields —- all enclosed with adequate fencing and a drainage ditch on the south side .
Second day of caretaking —- blasted nag tries to jump the ditch and proceeds to tangle itself in a wire fence —- called the vet on what would be the first of many very expensive visits .
I never allowed Sam a horse again —— and i never learned the Rag and Stick trade.

Now they are racing faster than some powerboats were years ago and probably more well paid professionals today than in powerboat racing.
( not to mention more high tech in hull design and construction than powerboats although some are catching up)

And dont ever forget “RIGHT OF WAY”—- Which is mainly due to lack of ability and common sense !!!!!!!!
When you have more money chucked at any sport than NASA ——then technology comes along in leaps and bounds.
Museums and perfume houses {PRADA} —— OIL—-{ARAB EMIRATES] —-COUNTRIES. BILLIONAIRES and Gold watchmakers .
I would say that pretty much says “MONEY IS NOT A PROBLEM”
ITS A BLOODY LONG TIME SINCE POWERBOATS ONLY DID SIXTY MILES AN HOUR IN RECORD BREAKING——MUST BE OVER 100 YEARS AGO.
Now if powerboating could ever get the sponsorship that AMERICA’S CUP BOATS——FORMULA ONE—-FOOTBALL—-EVEN GOLF !!!! Gets, then I dont doubt for a minute we would head the list in “HIGH TECH. PILGRIM !!!!!!!!!!!

All true
right of way, sailing came first.
Speed wise I didnt just mean the fastest on the day, lots of class are faster either way
Ice yachts have been fast for a long time... one off special record is standing at 75mph today on water, would be double that on ice
See Merc putting an engine on a yacht now for the new E class racing..lol

If there’s a shilling or two to be made from flogging an outboard —- bet your sweet bippy Mercury will be in there somewhere !!!!!!!!
Just wonder if there’s the same “Family Feel” in the factory these days ???????? When Don Ross and i visited OSHBERG for the first time, we were made to feel like one of the family.
In two days we had been taken out to dinner —-lunch——a night club—a whore house and an island .
Am still friends with everyone we met there [those that are still alive anyway] ——CHARLIE ALEXANDER was Mercury president in those days. He wined —dined and played with all the rest of the Mercury Family.
I remember that all the guys who worked at Mercury had “TOYS”. —- Airplanes====VETTES====Snowmobiles {100mph} back in the day.
Playing Tag with the Hertz rent-a racers around the fairground in Casale Monferrato after midnight was one of my fondest memories ———Dent GG was the aim !!!!!!!!! He always had a flash Merc as his ride. Sod my old britches— is it really over fifty years ago already ????????520096

My eldest grandson Ben, he owns and publishes a magazine called AHH. {ALL ABOUT HORSHAM}
Today i was invited to meet one of his friends VICK . He specialises in putting together old movies —8mm and 16mm into a modern format —ie. Fire stick or USB.
Now i was really surprised that lots of BEN’S boyhood friends were very successful in the film and TV world.
So i was surprised when i was given a small box with a fire stick ——then told that its a collection of me competing all over the world with cosworth motors .
I had never seen any of these films before today .
Which makes me pretty damn sure none of you will have seen them either . Problem is they are all pretty large format and “VIDS”. Plus, i have never found the right way to present them to S + F. ???
May have to send the stick to Fugi or Peters or anyone who can stick the contents on here ——i am open to suggestions .
Even have some footage of Valleyfield 1976 !!!!!!

BEEN WORKING LIKE THE DEMENTED GIPPETTO FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THIS YEAR!!!!!
Thats why all the name plates —— there are five Trophies for the Lowestoft + Oulton Broad club.
The three Velden boats and a couple of my own design. TOM PERCIVAL—BOB SPALDING—ROGER JENKINS—-NELLY GREGG—JACKIE WILSON.
Main reason for this is, i remember lots of famous names who raced at Lowestoft who are now long gone and forgotten. Frankie Holmes——-Toby Sutton——Ben Rood—-Len MELLY—Peter Sabberton, another 20 years and nobody will even remember their names . So i decided to do something about it ———because i could !!!!!!!!
Then there’s the two AITKIN boats for the Squadron’
Aimee’s concept. Thats a done deal [should she ever drop by again]
There are a couple of Miles Jennings he ordered nearly a year ago.
Then i made some new concept trophies for UKOBRA —- Just have to persuade Eddie Chater —Mike Mantle and Stevie Curtis they need to sponsor some of the races !!!!!!!
Slight problem is the fact to get one of these trophies —you have to dig deep—- Prices start at £500 and rise for some real powerboating erotica !!!!!!!!!!
Just imagine them being presented at the end of season dinner at the PROSPECT> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Trophies to show —- not put away in the wardrobe until some other poor bugger wins them next year.
How do i know all this—— i had over 300 awards in the showcase at one time — that was until i decided enough was enough and gave ‘em all away as golf or Boy Scout trophies —— nobody was particularly interested anyway.
So i think it’s about time powerboating had some trophies everyone would be glad to hang on to for a year. ?????????????????

9-30 am and i Just aborted work for the day. Reason is , it’s already baking hot in SUPERSHED. When we built it the temp was around 60 degrees and APRIL, so we did not bother with insulation.
Now thats fine in winter when i sometimes light a candle and a joss stick for warmth and solace, but it’s not a damn bit of good in summer with the sun beating down on the lid. And one opening sash.
i may have to insulate the roof——- well it would save lighting a candle in the winter [no, i am not an RC ] or a fifth cashmere !!!!!!!!!
Jill says “WHY DON’T YOU FINISH YOUR BOOK?”—— i ask myself the same question, But there’s no answer to that one.
Problem is i have to sit on my arse in the easy recliner and pound the Magic Keyboard [ have never ever out what was so bloody magic about a £400 keyboard ——- except it made APPLE £385 clear profit !!!!!!]
Taking time out again today to visit my youngest daughter Sam —plus its Father’s Day on sunday and who knows —she may have bought me a bottle of ISSY MISAKE or some other exotic SMELLIES that i would never buy for myself in a million years .
Just sunk a half pint of iced water —-feel better already—- i am told its de-hydration ???????
Thought up a brilliant design for the Duckworth——- so i tore the old design to bits and dumped the ingredients . Will show you a progress piccie sometime next week as the concept transpires .

Mentioning Hamburgers reminds me of my youth, eating at Drive-in burger joints.
In England they may not have such establishments. Where you eat within your Car. They had trays which would mount on your car window when rolled halfway down or more. And the waitress would place the food on the tray.
Some of the eateries did not even have an indoor dining area.

Most of the drive ins have been replaced by drive thrus with minimal inside seating. (Covid19 changed everything). McDonalds put a twist on the drive thru lane by asking customers to park in "pick up" locations. You might as well park on the dark side of the moon. Did that once and waited 10 minutes for my order which was nothing complicated. Now a days I refuse to cooperate by moving in line. Not my problem that their human food processing machine doesn't work too well. Restaurants are making a comeback to fast food pricewise too. You can't get a single order for anything for under $10 except for a cup of coffee. I haven't seen a "window tray" in 20 years.

Yep, I remember those days. Two other drive in restaurants we had in town were the Shoney's Big Boy, where the servers were on skates and Steak n Shake, where all the muscle cars hung out. On Friday nights regular folks would have to go inside the restaurant to eat because all the drive in spaces were occupied by the muscle cars with their hoods up all showing their M/T valve covers, Hooker headers, Holley 4 barrels and Mallory ignitions. The kids today would not even know what a window tray was or how to use it. Just another example of the great days gone by...

Steak-n-Shake milkshakes were great too.
In Orlando also, (like Bob mentioned) the muscle cars would be at the Steak-n-Shake, especially on Weekend evenings.
However, there were always more dudes there than girls.

I am not complaining——just observing !!!!!!!!!
A little bit of trivia...The very first Hooters restaurant was open here in Clearwater, Florida back in 1983. It was the success of that unit that lead to the nationwide chain. I wonder why it was so successful..??

Finally managed to get the five trophies away to the LOWESTOFT AND OULTON BROAD CLUB.
Seemed like all old boat racers were simply dying and forgotten !!!!!!!
So i made five trophies [only four of ‘em are dead] so they wont be forgotten for at least a few years.
Have actually made a couple of all metal offshore trophies for UKOBRA —— clever bit is going to be to get someone to pay for ‘em.
Contrary to popular belief , i am not a charity institution—— and i still know damn well ‘MONEY DOES NOT GROW ON TREES”. [sainted mother taught me that long ago].
I do try and make the trophies memorable —— whereas the concepts i fabricate are “DEBATABLE?”.
If any of the followers of “TRICKS THAT OLD RETIRED RACERS GET UP TO” WOULD LIKE TO DONATE A TROPHY TO ANY CLUB ———please get in touch . Tell me your thoughts —and I’ll see what i can come up with.

Funny procedure Hooters "corporate" had for franchises that were down on revenue. They would fly in "temps" (from Atlanta?) to supplement the local waitress staff. These girls were all "tens" or better (more professional models than being standard waitresses?). They would work the location for a week or so to get the money up and then vanish.........

Reminds me of something about Rosemary Harum; (Young) RIP
Treasure and I had just gone to the Keys on our boat and stopped at Rosemarys house. This was around early 2000's. We had lunch and a great time. She told us how she and her girlfriend were putting out old drums and tires for lobsters. She was quite the diver.
Maybe a month or so? later, we were watching a new TV show about the Marine Patrol in the Keys. They were approaching two women diving for lobsters. I said, It's Rosemary! You could hear Rosemary saying "Oh my God I don't have on any lipstick."
They checked her lobsters, checked the boat out, and left. We called her right away and told her she was on TV with no lipstick.
What a great lady she was, and one hell of a boat racer. Shirley Muldowney reminds me of Rosemary.

FI was a very good racer —— also had the best boats that money could buy [Seebolds and Burgess].
Was a great MECURY publicity platform. Steve West [who was the European tour mechanic] was her own personal Race mechanic.
Was right up there with the best——- John Hill—-Jon Jones—-Mark Wilson—-Steve KERTON—-Tony Williams —-did the World tour with FONDA before her bad flip. Her dad had BUTLER OILS so they were not short of a bob or two.
Bella Coleville ——Pat Ainge——were also Bristol regulars.
Offshore were Fiona Countess of Arron ——-Lady Violet AITKIN ——-i am sure there were countless others who’s names i have long forgotten .
Gina Campbell and ROZ KNOTT [powerboat magazine editor —- married to Chris Hodges for a while and then Lord Normanton] both dabbled with high powered boats.
Like i said , i am sure there were many others but my memories shot ,so you will have to give me a little slack now and again

Glad that border control did not give you any grief Pilgrim. Did double wrap the record concept so there was no damage in transit.
Last year i did one for BENNY ROBERTSON in South Carolina and another for ARTHUR MOSTERT In Monte Carlo— both arrived safely without any transit damage .
Took a long while before i realised that apart from jugs—tankards —- medals and hideous four poster plastic contraptions, drivers from yesterday have very little to show for all the time spent enjoying the sport of boat racing. In some way i have made up for this with some of the actual boat racing concepts i have made for drivers still alive and kicking.
Eddie Chater is a perfect example ——London club racer who entered the London/Monte Carlo with Mike Bellamy and Jim Booker and actually won it , There has never been another one—-it was the only LONDON’MONTE CARLO there has ever been———-So i made. “THE EDWARD NEVILLE CHATER AWARD”. Turned out to be one of my better creations. Have no idea what the next move will be !!!!!!!!
Just to give you some idea of how long i have known Eddie ——- he had just finished dentistry at GUYS HOSPITAL along with ROBIN TORRENCE ——PETER INWARD and BOB SMITH —- all had “E” class boats with a 50 hp Mercury motor, i was asked to look after them , so i packed up my job on the building and started JACKIE WILSON—MERCURY MARINE. — that was well over sixty years ago.
Eddie has long since retired —— Peter Inward lost his life at Fairford on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Eddie had a house ,right on the beach at SHOREHAM ——his all night parties are still legend .
Anyway, i made him one hell of a trophy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The spirit of competition is …the participating enjoyment and the goal of winning.
I think, I can speak for all sports when I say the first and main drive of most competitors is the participating enjoyment. No one wins all the time --- the humble realty.
Because, when it comes to winning, which is not always attainable by everyone, but participating is an achievable enjoyment by the masses. Case in point, how many times have we all seen guys/girls at boat races, which had a slim to none chance of winning the race.
If wasn’t for the backmarkers, the starting field would just be a partial group of skilled elites racing. And, very few of the champions, started their first (and early years) year winning. They started out for the enjoyment of participating. (As I did playing sports in high school).
Also, when the previous champions go past their prime years, they still compete for the enjoyment. But when the enjoyment is gone, almost all of them say, I am hanging up my helmet.
I am an apologists for the larger field of participants (including the gender we love ---WOMEN).

Yeah, the series promotors bragged about the guaranteed boat count for a race event only to focus on the top 5 or 6 teams in the lime light. I got fed up with these antics when my crew chief came on my radio once telling me that 2 teams fighting for 3rd and 4th place asked if I could pull over to an outside lane and get out of the way for their battle. That was it for me and the fun factor peetered out. Needless to say I got a call from the series champ one afternoon asking if I would be attending the next series race in 6 weeks. The answer was "nope, too busy doing other things"

If a race is to be a race, then all participants should be equal , right. I dont have a problem with that. What i do have a problem with is -rules . If somebody wants to pass—then do it to the best of your ability—if you cant —then stay behind —- just dont expect me to get out of the way ???????
Now the debate starts here——— this is where “SPORTSMANSHIP” raises it’s head [or does it??”]
we are all racing —— we would all like to win——we are all equal [or are we]
Now thats where “TEAMS” come in and tactics ——-and “RULES’ !!!!!!!!!
Winners and losers——- podium and participants—-all part of the rich tapestry of racing, from a school sports day to the America’s cup. RULES APPLY !!!!!!!!!
I STILL REMEMBER WHEN IF YOU CROSSED THE LINE FIRST —YOU WON—-EVERYONE ELSE LOST ????

The art, skill, tech, and the weight disadvantage of filming race footage in the 1960s &70s.
Before Go-Pro and Cell Phones.
A couple years ago I saw a guy mount a Go-Pro camera on his SK race boat's deck in Long Beach. And the little camera stayed attached to the little mount. Technical progress.

Well on the way with“TREASURES —RAVEAU “. —Done the mount [one of my better concoctions]
Fabricated the Merc 700 — you just have to wait until I’ve cobbled it all together .
Made a big decision today——- there will be no COSWORTH concept.
Been sweating over it since i first conceived the idea ——-decided it cannot be done !!!!!
From what little i know of COSWORTH ENGINEERING , [which is only minute when one thinks of the magnitude of the firm]
there is no way i could get the four main protagonists into one concept.
So i decided it had to be THE DUCKWORTH !!!!!!!!!! It is going to be a monumental task—- needs to be the best thing i have ever done—- Keith was a man of many talents . Brilliant engineer and designer——- water skier——helicopter Pilot—— could sink a pint of bitter with the best.—- and pull a bird faster than any of us !!!!!!
Think i have more than enough to work with . He will never be forgotten anyway — but i still have to make a full blown concept of the KEITH DUCKWORTH that i knew .
I once got Hodges to Build a junior cat for my daughter Kim—- he saw it and said could i Get Chris to build one for his boy ROGER. !!!!!!!!!! He was 10 and had just started junior racing with CLIVE____Colin Chapmans boy .
Keith put it all together and thought he would show his lad how it should be done——-somehow he never quite achieved the finer points of junior racing and wound up very wet indeed .
Needless to say i will not be depicting this on the concept.

jackie, just to enlighten you, all the single engine raveaus were flat bottom and driven on your knees. only single seaters were the raveau cats with twin engines and one 20' twin engine flat bottom. the raveau you saw a tavares was the more modern version raveau vee bottom built by bobby walwork who worked for years with marcel, before marcel moved back to france. i staid in touch with marcel when he moved back to france and got to have a nice visit with him while i was in the army and attended the 1967 paris 6hr. he was camped out across the street from the pits.

When I was starting out in racing my dream race boat was a 16 Raveau with a Merc 1000 for I class. I did manage to pick up an E class Raveau to fit my budget but it was pretty used up. I tested it but never got to race it.
My younger Son's father in-law grew up on Long Island and he was well acquainted with Marcel Raveau. He raced a little Raveau when he was a kid in Stock Outboard. He has a few stories about Marcel from those days in New York before he moved to Florida.

Bill Brown was once a really good friend of mine—- but that was early on in my life .
We would meet up in Soho on a friday night at ANIMOS in Greek Street or LA CUCKARACHA the Mexican eatery.
Would be the early hours of Saturday morning before we were thrown out, Parking was in the street at that time .
All the people that worked on our boats would be there—PATRICK CASTELL AND CLARE——BILL BROWN and EILEEN——- CHAS SHOOTER and SANDRA——— Tony ??? Bills mad Irish sister-in-law .
We used to take over the place and the music and dancing always went on into the early hours .
Life was simple and there for the taking in those crazy days.
Over the years things changed —- halcyon is only there for a short while —but hells teeth did we ever live for a while .
Bad news is Bill Brown has reached the end of the line —-weeks at the most——he has lived in Thailand for the last twenty odd years with his wife and daughter, still dabbling in design and inventions . Still hoping to find something that would make a fortune.
As well as being great, life can be a stone bitch at times —-today ,life proved just what a bitch she can be.!!!!!!!!!

No idea what will happen to this one——. It goes over ten kilos and is made out of aluminium and teak.
Will make for a superb Trophy or other for some presentation somewhere .
Started on a DFV for the “DUCKWORTH”—- WILL BE A VERY LONG JOB - OVER FIFTY BOLTS IN EACH HEAD .One slip up and I’m dead in the water [or workshop].
Do have three Lotus F1 cars ——a stand—- and ambition in spades .
More thought gone into this than anything i have ever done before ——-already discarded three stands and a dozen ideas .We will have to see what transpires !!!!!!!!!
Finally managed to get a bit of common sense out of the doctor yesterday—— he started off with the age thing , but quickly moved on when i reared up.
In a nutshell ——brain is not getting enough oxygen—-creating dizzinesss . Cause is still unknown—— could be a slow moving flap valve in the ticker —— Cure ??????? Lets mess about with the pills for a couple of weeks . And if that doesn't work ??? —we will think about keyhole surgery!!!!!!!!
Guess i will just have to get a wriggle on ——finish what i started —— and just do one thing at once and take one day at a time [just like always].

Only person who ever thought growing old was fun was a 20 year old who was in a hurry to grow up and reach 21.
I was fine until i reached 85—- then the bits started to wear out and fall off—— then rapidly. [not slowly]. Everything started to unravel like the wool on a cashmere sweater.
I even walked slower out to SUPERSHED in a morning !!!!!!!!!
Started dribbling like an old man.———- i started to cup my ear and say “YOU-WHAT ??” Even though i have a hearing aid !!!!!!
After dropping my head on to my plate at lunch time, i now take an hours nap !!
It mustn’t be enough as i fall asleep in my recliner after dinner and the 6-o’clock news —-damned if i can remember what was on TV any evenings !!!!!
Then there’s the. “THE SKID MARKS” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then of course there’s the surgery visits to see the doctor —- and then the routine hospital visits ——and the scans and the X-rays —- blood tests and piss samples —- its almost endless — but the alternative does not bear thinking about .
So, for the princely sum of £100 i am now the proud owner of my very own “MOBILE SINGLE-LEAD EKG” how about that ?? I can now send the doctor my own heart rate —- he takes a look at it and decides whether i am fit for human consumption . Smart phones are wonderful things if you can keep them under control and do not allow them to take over your very existence !!!!!!
Last visit to the Croft Surgery 23 people in there with 24 of them thumbing a smart phone with great aplomb. [ including two five year olds ].

WHAT WITH OUTDATED EU LAWS AND A HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION- LEFT OVER FROM “BREXIT” —- WE NEED A “NIGEL FARAGE” IN GOVERNMENT TODAY !!!!!
Nigel was always a very smart and well educated man—— if he’d played his cards right he would have made prime minister, except for his radical views, to be successful in politics you have to lie [untruths] and pretend to be someone you really are not. Farage has never done that.
All politicians run with the hare and hunt with the hounds —- say one thing and think or do the other.
an honest politician is rare as rocking horse sh-t .
WHY?——because there is no such thing !!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to be a politician you have to be prepared to sell your own granny with a smile on your face while sucking a lemon.!!!!!!
Nigel can not only see a problem —- and the solution ——-but also the consequence of such action. Unfortunately the public can’t stand that—— for wrongdoings they want action —-but not the consequence.
We have a mass invasion of illegal immigrants——- nobody wants them——human rights commission
[in Strasbourg of course] says its inhuman to send them to Ruanda.
Nigel’s solution would be to sink the boats in the middle of the channel——- but of course the people do not want that [or at least, thats what they say—— maybe not what they think].

In Arundel today there was a rescue operation underway to recover two American airmen who were reported MIA when their LIBERATOR crashed in 1943.
Operation was a complete success.
A group of US veterans is digging up a field where a bomber crashed during World War Two, killing several American crew members.
A B-24 Liberator was in a group conducting a bombing raid near Paris in June 1944 when it took severe damage from anti-aircraft fire.
The crew managed to fly the plane back to England but it crashed in a farmer's field near Arundel, West Sussex.
Seven airmen bailed out but three were believed to have been killed.

Bench seats and Three on the Column. Those years are now in the rear view mirror.
We had 3 forward gear-shifting on the steering column in the States, but Jackie will have to inform us if they had it in England & Europe. Personally, I thought the shifting was simple and convenient.

Trying to think but I think we had 3 on the tree ( in OZ) till about 1970 ish?
4 speeds didnt come in to the big 3 till 67 - 68
By about 1972 we had performance cars with 4 speeds, 60mph in 1st, 80mph 2nd, 100mph in 3rd, depends on the hill what happened in 4th.
Only small blocks and inline 6's

Simply could not resist pulling a solid chunk of aluminum and fernagling a HAL KELLY SINGLE SEATER RUNABOUT WITH A 700 MERCURY, on its bum——- Took me all day, but hells teeth i needed a break from cleaning the workshop !!!!!!

There was a detailed documentary on TV that indicated that the skin was ignited by a static spark generated by the nose drop line making contact with the ground. They recreated the static charge and skin coupon in a test lab and it was scary. Also, some family in New York had a personal Kodak movie camera that had footage of the incident from an entirely different perspective than the general press corp did that eliminated the hydrogen gas fault.

So i think it would be fair to say that there is hope for HYDROGEN being used in the motor industry sometime in the near future ?????????
Sainted mother once told me
“Son, there’s no such thing as a “FREE” meal”———and you had better soon learn all about “KENETIC ENERGY”. [for every action -there is a reaction].!!
As i have travelled along life’s motorway, i have come to realise the value of sainted mothers little quotes. Turns out she was a very wise lady!!
Not all that long ago we were told to buy a diesel powered vehicle . Various reasons and subsidies were offered should one go along with that. Now all diesel vehicles are banned from the roads forever . Same with all electric motors—huge incentives were offered in the early days —- we were never told of all the faults and drawbacks . High initial cost— Massive weight—-low distance that can be travelled on a single charge——-high fire risk——and an hour long wait at the re-charge station. Whatever you do —for lords sake do not use the air-conditioning on a really hot day or the heater on a cold day as it halves the distance you can travel—-Plus —i almost forgot -ABSOLUTELY NO TRADE IN VALUE !!!!!!
STILL EVERY CAR MANUFACTURER HAS GONE “ALL ELECTRIC”—-can anyone tell me why !!!!!

Then there’s THE FISH FACTORY IN LITTLEHAMPTON.

Liquid Piston... If I had a pound for every person that asked me did I know about Liquid Piston then I would'nt be living on the breadline now. Now I'm not going to knock Liquid Piston, if they can generate an income from their "revolutionary idea" then good luck to them. But, there's always a but isn't there, as John has said I do tinker in the rotary world and we have made several different capacity rotaries over the years mainly for UAV and drone applications, (generators and cars as well) and its very rare to find anything new in this field. Felix Wankel wasn't a complete idiot and did an awful lot of investigative and theoretical work over the years on epitrochoid applications. Liquid Pistons design was investigated (and discounted ) along with many other different trochoids a long long time ago. If you can find a copy of Wankels book Rotary Piston Machines it has a few pages of the many different layouts he investigated over the years. I do continue to find it amazing how little research and investigation these "revolutionary" new engine concepts actually receive before investors or governmental or defence agencies hand over their cash. There are several rotary engine companies worldwide that make rotary engines and in reality there are only minor differences between them, (there are a few major differences in rotor cooling etc) a few of them actually use almost identical parts sold under completely different brands. So if you see on You Tube any new engine concepts with the words "Revolutionary" or "Game Changing" treat them with a pinch of salt until you have done a little research of your own, especially if you are going to part with your hard earned cash. Material science has moved on a lot since wankel was Fred in a shed so old ideas can be resurrected to become moderate successes rather than the unreliable failures they were once deemed to be but they still remain few and far between. Remember most You Tube channels are making money from your views and need click bait titles to generate their income.

Thats about right for any coastal town fish and chip shop ——-in England . But daily deliveries are commonplace . Furthest away from the coast towns are no more than seventy miles so fish deliveries can be done the same day as caught . Even the chinky takeaways cannot compete with a half decent English fish and chip shop !HARRY RAMSDENS IN GUISLEY WAS WORLD FAMOUS IN THE 50/60’s era ——-until he franchised it and lost the plot.

40 tons of the stuff was shipped to Japan successfully but thats about it for me——-i just have THE TRUSTY LEXUS HYBRID .
Jackie, personally I think hydrogen is the future and not electric. There is a lot of work going on with Rotaries in the hydrogen field one manufacturer has even launched a household generator system running off hydrogen. As per usual funding is difficult to come by but slowly grants are becoming available. I don't know a lot about Blue Ammonia as I haven't researched it much as I don't like a one source fuel, Saudi Oil companies have our balls in a big enough vice as it is. Problem with hydrogen is infrastructure same as electric was and to some degree still is. I did get passed some information a few weeks ago that was interesting however. A company has developed a hydrogen genertaing plant in a few shipping containers, idea is they will be deployed to existing fuel stations and generate hydrogen on site.

Jackie, It was good to finally speak face to face the other day I hope you enjoy the somewhat faded picture but it did hang on the father in laws wall for many years, he always spoke highly of the "Cosworth". I apologise for the somewhat brief visit, we had intended to spend more time and maybe even get a tour of supershed but with the traffic as it was maybe another time. I will keep in touch.

Boating world is full of amazing characters —- JOHN SHELDON [ROTORY JOHN] came to the off meeting in florida top punch my lights out ———-we took one look at each other — burst out laughing and hugged each other tight .
Benny Robertson and i got into big time argument in Fenton Missouri after a Fonda race —- we became lifetime friends after that.
In 1968 at the Paris six Hour race a few of us confronted thr whole USA Race team at six o’clock in the morning including

RON HILL—BILLY DON PRUET—BILL SIROIS —BOB NORDSKOG —-JOHNNY SANDERS——BILL PETTY —- all of them pretty huge individuals . It was pissing down at the time —— we went fifty yards upstream under a bridge and did fuel stops in the dry .
Been friends with all of them ever since. I am sure we will get to meet again , thanks for calling.

Hells teeth its Thursday again already—over halfway through summer and its car boot day !!!! Talked to my son MARK last night —-told me he is coming to see me in August and we will go to Cowes for the COWES/TORQUAY race together.
Started on the twin outboard version of an offshore racer — not sure how it will pan out — but until you try , you will never know . Will take a progress pickie now and again.

Thursday night around 5-45pm i received a phone call from “THE TECH TEAM” — we are just leaving Goodwood and will be with you in five minutes ——AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER — at 7-15 there was a knock on the door and a very tall, well built lad was standing on the doorstep holding this picture . Traffic leaving Goodwood was insane . Consequently he would not come inside and we shot the breeze for oll of two minutes .
daughter Sam is having the picture professionally cleaned —-mounted and reframed using modern technology. It is the launch of the Cosworth at lake Windermere on the last run of the week at the WINDERMERE RECORD WEEK.!!!

Am I correct in assuming that the wing, with a positive AOA and being mounted to the back of the boat, was to lift and lighten up the back of the boat?

Am I correct in assuming that the wing, with a positive AOA and being mounted to the back of the boat, was to lift and lighten up the back of the boat?
afraid i can’t tell you that, aerodynamics were never my strong point. I never understood whether it was to lift the arse up—-or keep the arse down !!!!!!!!! Or —- if it did actually fly — was it to keep it level. I do know the boat did not stay level over 123 mph — front near sponson tried to take off. Tried all manner of quirky things to stop it —- weights in the front [which in turn created problems]. portside sponson—then in both which slowed acceleration but still lifted at 123. Never did solve the problem.
Was the boat better with or without the wing ——-hand on heart , i cannot honestly tell you .
Tested the boat at chase with the wing set up——-calm evening for a single run at Bristol- Was as fast as anything there that day [ all the JONRUDE and MERCURY factory drivers were there.] In the first heat, Third at the top buoy and spun hard. Finished fifth overall.
Wing worked its way loose damaging the threads on the rods that held it and it fell into the water after the race was over . Boat had been set up to run with the wing, but we ran the rest of the meeting without it .
Record was set with the wing. Intended to run the wing at Parker, but due to GG and Duckworth changing the gearing in the lower unit without telling me, i did not have a single prop that would even get the rig on plane.
Bob Hetzel worked his butt off, shaving nearly an inch from the diameter of an old Rolla i had in the box.
Cosworth had worked the lower unit— i had both pressure and temperature GUAGES in the cockpit . We were due to swop GEARCASES half way through or four hours . Never happened —- despite the best efforts of GERRY GILBRAITH and a dozen Parker enthusiasts.
Upon post race examination, even after seven hours, the original gearcase was in perfect nick and as Malcolm Tyrell said at the time “ would have run another seven hours”.
Cosworth only had one season and was a one off experiment for Cosworth Engineering.[KEITH DUCKWORTH] This was after MIKE COSTAIN—-KEITH DUCKWORTH and myself had spent the whole afternoon at Keiths very own ski lake discussing the possibility of running a DFV in a tunnel.
Only three people ever drove the boat. Myself,—BRETT MAY and BILLY SEEBOLD .
Hodges and i talked and the boat was born—— was at least two feet too long [on reflection]
Lot of good came out of the experiment ——- Cosworth Engineering and Mercury did a lot of work on pistons and cranks —— BENTZ got to race [and kill the KT CLASS] at the MIAMI MARINE STADIUM.
There was an attempt with an offshore rig and a pair of COSWORTHS but i was not privy to that.
BEDFORD DAVEY was a good friend who was responsible for the boat being at Parker . I introduced him to GG and a lot of good racing came out of it.

WASNT MY BOAT —-Garbrecht had learned a lot from my effort and put a Seebold together with a cosworth and a new gearcase designed for a KT ———- had BENTZ run it with strict instructions which went out the window . Think that was the only time it raced as a KT and successfully managed to kill a good class by lapping the whole field at the Miami Marine Stadium. Was 1968.

Again you will have to allow me a few mistakes —THE YEAR WAS 1978 ——-NOT 1968 !!!!!Surprised you never picked up on that Johnno —— rotaries were confined to the history books long before the cosworth was conceived ——- KT’s were never in the same league as the cosworth !!!!
This was the time of the V8’s !!!!!!!!! I think the rotaries never ran again after the 72 Windermere race . Cosworth ran for less than 10 months . Dont think the rotaries ran for much longer did they ?

I DO KNOW IT WAS A PROJECT OF GARBRECHTS——think Freddie and Jimmy hauenstien were involved ——- Aronow probably wanted to get to know Duckworth ——— who had the ear of ROGER PENSKE—-A.J.FOYT——ANDRETTI——and just about every car racer there ever was.
this was around the time of BEDFORD DAVEY —-he was a very rich boating enthusiast [vaseline],
WILLABEE — is probably the best person to ask—- he was Mercury crew chief for all HI-PERF BOAT PROJECTS. UNDER GARBRECHT.

Finally finished the two offshore tunnels —-one with a pair of those ridiculously powered “ outboards“
You know the ones i mean —— you will need a fork lift or a crane to stick it on and take it off a boats bum.
T’other is a twin inboard with a pair of stern drives .
Anyway-they are both done and dusted and fit for human consumption!!!!!!!!!

On the subject of K tease and inboard tunnels. Some of my fondest memories are going to Parker with Gary peacock and watching him race full tunnel, small block MerCruiser powered KT I can’t remember if it was a mercury boat or it was something that Cardozo peacock and Al Martin put together but I believe it was done up at Lake x and I also think it Gary led the first lap at Parker with that boat. I’m not even gonna take a guess of the year because I know I’ll get it wrong maybe mid 70s. lotta fun racing with the Miami racers going out west just a kid back, then working in the pits.

Vapor trails boy, Jackie, you really are showing you raising experience with people over here in the states. Pelican harbor, great racing place about a 4 1/2 mile course and rough as hell coming down the intercoastal side, raised a couple of three hour marathons there, and a souped up donzi 16 with a 289 Holman Moody Ford. I think peacock wanted to use big D for a turn bouy because you kept bumping into her all the time. I don’t think Meg was too happy with that deal.

Peacock and Chick Gagen drove a Mercury/Molinari single outboard to 5th overall at Parker in 1973. I'm pretty sure that Gary drove the new Speed Marine Molinari KT entry named Mohave Max in 1974. In 1975 I believe he teamed with Cordoza in another new Molinari KT.
After Parker in 73, Gary was retained to do the test driving for the Mercury KT development package. As the summer progressed, Gary and the boat just got better and better. It won 3 of the 4 races it entered and was clearly dominating the 4th race when it had a failure. The boat was sold after the 73 season and won the KT championship for the new owner, Art Williams, the next year. I think Billy Don Pruett was the driver.
The Mighty KT leading the pack in 73 .....

I was at the Stadium when Wilcox had the rudder break off the "Fish Peddler". The boat turned hard right and went under the front rows of the stands. A couple of seconds later it popped back out apparently without hitting anything. Jack never raced again. It just was not his day to die. Unfortunately several years later he was killed by an armed robber at his business.
