Lack of infrastructure is one big reason, more...

https://tycoonsuccess.com/5-reasons-...0EV%20vehicles.

The world has recently been moving toward sustainable transportation and green energy use. Vehicles backed by green energy contribute to sustainable transportation, minimization of greenhouse gas emissions, and give energy independence. Thus, green energy transportation arises into two different paths in the form of EVs and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology.
Electric vehicles run on lithium-ion batteries or fuel cell technology. Fuel cell technology is considered the greenest technology used in producing electric or fuel engine-based vehicles. Whereas Hydrogen cars use hydrogen fuel cell technology, an electrochemical process of hydrogen and oxygen to produce electric energy, and water as a by-product. Fuel cell tech-based vehicles use hydrogen fuel to generate electricity which is utilized to run vehicles. Though hydrogen is the most abundant element on the earth, it has to be extracted from other materials like water to use as a clean and green energy source. Compared to other fuels Hydrogen fuel is much more expensive. Hydrogen fuel technology requires more investment in time and money because precious and expensive metals like platinum, titanium, and iridium are required as a catalyst in the reaction. So, the cost of raw materials used in this technology is not so affordable for companies to start a business and manufacture hydrogen cars. Around 2010, hydrogen cars were introduced as an effective and efficient technology in the automobile industry, but the efficiency and energy conservation in hydrogen cars is low, which results in the decline of these vehicles from the sustainable transport market. So, hydrogen cars were considered a revolutionary technology, but EV technology dominated them, which resulted in the failure of hydrogen cars.
Let’s check out some reasons behind the failure of hydrogen cars.

• Hydrogen cars are overly expensive

As any new technology comes up with high prices, hydrogen cars are also no exception to this. Hydrogen-powered cars are expensive due to the use of precious metals like titanium and platinum, which increase their price compared to EV vehicles. The storage, extraction, and transportation process required to make hydrogen fuel is more complex and costlier than fossil fuel. In the USA, the starting price of a hydrogen car ranges between $49,000 to $56,000, which is far more expensive than the normal hybrid and EV vehicles. Therefore, if we study economically, hydrogen car is not an investment option for many people yet.

• Low efficiency

The efficiency of any car can be determined by checking how much amount of energy is conserved during the process of hydrogen production. EVs have nearly 85-90 % of efficiency, and hydrogen cars only have 25-30 % of efficiency. Almost 45 percent of energy is lost to produce hydrogen during the electrolysis process in hydrogen cars which lowers their efficiency and energy conservation. Electric vehicles require an optimum amount of energy to charge onboard batteries in them. So, currently, electric cars are preferred over hydrogen cars all over the world.

• Lack of proper infrastructure

Many countries have adopted a sustainable transportation system and EVs with charging grid infrastructure for EV owners. But, there are no such infrastructural arrangements for hydrogen cars yet. Aside from the lack of fuel stations, there is also the absence of good maintenance and repair because many mechanics are not yet amicable with hydrogen car repair. Therefore, if anyone owns a hydrogen car and has a problem, then that person might not be able to fix it, easily!

• EV technology is improving

We have seen the increasing use of EVs by people in the last two years. The global electronic and automobile market share has witnessed an enormous rise in the past few years, and the world expects that increasing use of EVs will bring a drastic change in the automobile industry. As EVs are already reaching the peak in sustainable and green transportation, hydrogen cars are left behind in this advancement. Affordable prices, available infrastructure, and improving technology convince people and consumers to buy EVs over hydrogen cars.

• Hydrogen cars are not eco-friendly

It is assumed that hydrogen cars and hydrogen fuel technology are green and efficient because the process of production of hydrogen fuel by electrolysis is completely environmentally friendly. In the process of electrolysis, water and hydrogen are the by-products of this reaction which does not harm any natural factor. For the production of cheap hydrogen fuel, fossil fuels like gasoline or diesel are used, which create emissions and combustion of harmful gasses. So if hydrogen cars will be used in the future, due to advanced technology, then people will obviously use cheap hydrogen fuel over expensive ones. So this is also one of the disadvantages of hydrogen cars and the reason behind their failure in the automobile market.
The Bottom Line
These are some reasons behind the failure of hydrogen cars in the EV market. Battery-based EVs are already capturing the worldwide market of the automobile industry, so there is limited scope for hydrogen cars in the present day. Some researchers say that technology related to hydrogen cars is constantly improving, so there may be a chance to see hydrogen cars on the road if the technology and efficiency of these cars will improve in the future.

Funny you say that about hydrogen. TOYOTA is the one in the forefront to develop the engines and drive systems for it. They have a car that works well now. It will only get better.

Here’s When We’ll See Toyota Solid-State Batteries

The Japanese automaker has plan for several EV families, and each will get its own battery type.

TOYOTA

• Toyota reveals roadmap for several types of batteries it plans to begin producing this decade, with four separate families of batteries meant for different vehicles.
• The Japanese automaker plans to introduce solid-state batteries to its vehicles in the 2027-'28 timeframe, predicting a fast-charging time of 10 minutes or less.
• Toyota is also working on LFP batteries, which will arrive sooner and will be aimed at less expensive mass-produced models, promising a significant reduction in cost compared to the batteries currently used in the bZ4X.

Toyota may be just getting started in the EV race—it has a grand total of one battery-electric model on sale—but the automaker is already planning several generations ahead when it comes to batteries. It revealed a detailed roadmap for its battery technology during the launch of a BEV factory in Europe, and it's nothing short of ambitious.

The automaker unveiled plans for four next-gen batteries it intends to produce in the coming years, each with different goals, technology, ranges, and price points.

When it comes to batteries with liquid electrolytes, Toyota divided them into three separate categories.
First, the automaker's Performance lithium-ion battery tech is slated to arrive in 2026, and promises a range of over 497 miles (800 kilometers) in addition to a 20% reduction in cost compared to current lithium-ion batteries found in the bZ4X. This category of battery also promises a rapid recharging time of 20 minutes or less.
The second battery family is dubbed Popularization, and it will be a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) composition promising a 20% increase in range as well as a 40% reduction in cost, compared to the bZ4X. This battery type is slated to arrive in 2026 or 2027, and will target a fast recharging time of half an hour or less.

TOYOTA

So it will be a bit slower to recharge, but will still offer more range than the battery found in the automaker's debut electric SUV.
"We will need various options for batteries, just like we have different variations of engines. It is important to offer battery solutions compatible with a variety of models and customer needs," said Takero Kato, president, BEV Factory.
The third battery type Toyota plans to put into production in the coming years has been dubbed simply High-Performance, pairing a high nickel cathode with a bipolar structure with lithium-ion chemistry. This battery promises to be 10% less expensive to produce than the Performance type, and will also offer a charging time of 20 minutes or less. This battery type is currently expected to arrive in 2027 or 2028.
The automaker shared a timeline for the introduction of several new EV battery types, each aimed at different vehicle families.
TOYOTA

Finally, Toyota is also working on solid-state battery technologystill the holy grail of battery developers. Even with a few claimed breakthroughs by a number of tech startups, solid-state batteries aren't expected to arrive until the second half of the decade in a best-case scenario, by most estimates. And Toyota's own efforts reflect this view as well.
As other developers, Toyota has been working on solid-state compositions for several years, hoping to combine a more compact design that can hold more power with rapid charging and discharging capabilities.

Greg, in all sincerity ... if the discussion struck strictly to the topic of electric boats and what makes them tick. This thread would have went two - maybe three pages ... tops.
The sad truth is (as you know) that the federal government has declared war on fossil fuel and has spent billions pushing EV's.
It doesn't seem to be political or a problem, until CRUD's feelings get hurt , by no one but himself believin his cut and paste fiction.

‘Gobsmackingly bananas’: scientists stunned by planet’s record September heat

The carbon emissions driving the climate crisis and rapid arrival of an El Niño event are to blame, researchers say
Global temperatures soared to a new record in September by a huge margin, stunning scientists and leading one to describe it as “absolutely gobsmackingly bananas”.
The hottest September on record follows the hottest August and hottest July, with the latter being the hottest month ever recorded. The high temperatures have driven heatwaves and wildfires across the world.

September 2023 beat the previous record for that month by 0.5C, the largest jump in temperature ever seen. September was about 1.8C warmer than pre-industrial levels. Datasets from European and Japanese scientists confirm the leap.
The heat is the result of the continuing high levels of carbon dioxide emissions combined with a rapid flip of the planet’s biggest natural climate phenomenon, El Niño. The previous three years saw La Niña conditions in the Pacific Ocean, which lowers global temperature by a few tenths of a degree as more heat is stored in the ocean.
03:12

Heatwaves, flood and fire: what it's like to survive 2023's extreme weather – video

Conditions have now rebounded to an El Niño event, which releases ocean heat and drives up temperatures. It’s all but certain that 2023 will be the hottest on record and 2024 may even exceed that, as the heating impact of El Niño is felt most in the year after it begins.
“September was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist, absolutely gobsmackingly bananas,” said Zeke Hausfather, at the Berkeley Earth climate data project.

Mika Rantanen, climate researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, said: “I’m still struggling to comprehend how a single year can jump so much compared to previous years.” Prof Ed Hawkins, at the University of Reading, UK, said the heat seen this summer was “extraordinary”.

Samantha Burgess, at the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, said: “The unprecedented temperatures for the time of year observed in September have broken records by an extraordinary amount. 2023 [is] on track to be the warmest year and about 1.4C above pre-industrial average temperatures. Two months out from [the UN climate conference] Cop28, the sense of urgency for ambitious climate action has never been more critical.”
The heat hit record levels within many countries too, including France, Germany, and Poland. The UK saw its joint hottest September on record, the Met Office reported, in data that goes back to 1884.
In Australia, climate scientist and author Joelle Gergis said: “Observations of Australia’s climate in September are shocking. Figures show where maximum temperatures were the highest on record, with many areas 3C to 5C above average. Rainfall deficits are primed for drought. Summer is going to be brutal.”

While human-caused global heating and El Niño are the biggest factors causing the record-breaking temperatures, other factors may be contributing small increases as well, Hausfather said. These include an uptick in the 11-year solar cycle, cuts in sun-blocking sulphur emissions from shipping and industry and a volcanic eruption in Tonga that released a large amount of water vapour, which traps heat.

I say B.S. on glogal warming. The key words to this story is "highest temps on record". The earth has been around for 4 billion years, these idiots are quoting records for the past 100 yrs. The climate is always changing. Sometimes hot, sometimes cold, sometimes real cold (ice ages), What about a real wet or real dry year, more climate change?

It's all a political SCAM to keep the masses in check. Don't use your A/C's, don't drive your cars, boats, airplanes, eat meat, all bad for the environment while the elites fly private, have boats with a crew of 40, ride around in suv's and have 10,000 sq. ft. houses (usually more than one). WAKE UP, they're just trying to control us.

Heard an interview a while back with I believe the president of Toyota of North America.

Talking about future of hybrids and what he thought.

His view was the electric cars was the main part of the marketplace totally due to politically driven mandates and tariffs.

But said the best, true option for efficiency was hydrogen powered and that they were hard at work behind the scenes on R&D for them.

Pretty impressive to hear and I had heard similar for years.

Unfortunately our masses are so stupid the only thing that they know of, is a hydrogen bomb so they’re all scared!

If you are truly wurried about man made climate change?
Just have one car your entire life
Turn off your airconditioning
Stay in your home town your entire life and essentially life like people a hundered years ago
Only buy seasonal groceries from local farms
Stay single with no kids and keep your current outboard
Write angry letters to mercury to stop building those ridiculus outboards
We have a economic model based on ever bigger consuming, you would need to walk away from this
Are you ready for this?
