What was the logical reason for engine hoods to open facing the driver, and with the hinges in the front of the car?

Was it easier for the mechanics to take off the hood, when doing major engine work?
Or, at high speeds the hood would have lesser chance of lifting up.

Maybe the car designers found a modicum of”COMMON SENSE” ?????????
It did make it easier working three sides of the engine with rear hinges —- but the risk of the hood BLOWING IN THE WIND was hugely increased with rear hinges . Same thing with the doors.
Safety factor was probably the main reason for doors to open from the front .
PRE -WORLD WAR TWO all car doors were hinged on the centre post ——whilst most hoods were hinged in the middle .
First car i ever owned with a hood hinged at the front was an e-type JAGUAR i purchased in a deal with TATTY ALLAN in exchange for a 100 hp Mercury outboard .

Here we go again ——-jesus wept Roy ——and i thought i had a butterfly mind !!!!!

Having your hood suddenly come up in tour face is a real attention getter. I was driving my Fire Department car to my promotion ceremony when the hood latch let go. I was lucky to get it stopped before any real damage was done.

SPENT ALL WEEKEND up to now dismantling the outboard engined PONTOON BOAT — then polishing and rebuilding . Beginning to look like it belongs to someone now.
If i get anywhere near up to muster i will send you a piccie — if i don’t -well there’s always next week.
This will be the third concept from underneath that I’ve finished this weekend [if i do].
Managed a clean up in the shop this morning—-woke up full of the joys of summer and the stench of MUCK-SPREADING which was gut wrenching and lasted all day.
Damned foot is still throbbing so i have an ice pack on it for an hour [well it is Sunday ]
See the HUSKI TEAM took pole in ST PETE’S —— dont mean much unless they bring home the bacon !
My son Mark acquired one of those bloody great big FECK-OFF RV’S —you know the kind i mean —Lassie and Rich both have the sort im talking about ——- Hilton Hotel bedroom —- cinema sized TV —-Armchair drivers seat and a Benihana bar-b-q. That swings out from the inside and bleachers on the roof .
They are ensconced at the race site in saint pete’s at the minute —-hoping i might get a ride down to Key West in it in November .

It’s Monday and im still diving under the bench trying to salvage items and concepts i have long discarded as abject failures . As i grow older [but not wiser] i have learned most everything in life has a value . May not always be monetary — but to someone -somewhere it will have meaning.
So—as i forage and fernagle this week i am trying to justify my existence —- wonder why God has kept me around this long and to what purpose .
Wonder WHY i am actually here ?????? Hells teeth —its less than twenty years since i started creating my shenanigans —- maybe the best is yet to come !!!!!!!!!!!

Once i get my head down and my arse up, super shed becomes alive —-materials i bought at the scrapyard along with treasures i picked up a the car boot sale come together in the form of powerboats in the main with the occasional BUGGATTI and ROLLS ROYCE FERNAGLED in there somewhere .
I have attempted the odd sailing boat [AMERICA’S CUP] but have never yet managed to sell one , so they all wind up in Clive’s study . He does seem to like them. He also has a couple of WW1 biplanes which aren’t exactly BEST SELLERS.
Thats why i concentrated on power boats and improbables [imaginative -unrealistic figments of imagination] .
Another bloody good reason of course is trying to stay alive — fit and well with all my faculties intact—sans arthritis and I.Q. Dropping to unacceptable levels .
one of the facts of life that pisses me off most is the deviance of insurance companies — after a lifelong affair with AMERICAN EXPRESS and their travel insurance scheme once i reached seventy five, i was dropped like a hot turd [make that potato].
They used to charge around a hundred when i was forty/fifty. At 60/75 a couple of hundred . At 75 goodnight sweetheart —- thanks for your loyalty but purely because of your age -you are surplus to requirements !!!!!!!!!! BASTARDS.

I find it hard to take that even the airlines are now deciding whether older people carry insurance or indeed are fit enough to travel.
so if i dont ask for assistance [last thing you want is a wheelchair] and travel under the radar —nobody asks the questions .
Even if i did find someone to give me medical insurance —-the slimy bastards would find a way to wriggle out of paying up anyway [you didnt declare backache or false teeth or a limpid didget ].
HAVENT given up yet though —— there will be some greedy little agent willing to take the risk for a massive down payment.
