I doubt the surf crowd would buy into electric. As mentioned, trailer and tow vehicle are issues. Also, if on a cable lift, would need to double the capacity. Some of these boats are pumping 4,000 pounds or more of water into them. The short use window isn't viable in my opinion, since surfing requires almost no physical effort so folks go surf for hours. Unlike skiing in the old days or even riding a wakeboard. The physical effort required tired you out. Surfing, not so much. That's why you see 1 and 2 year old surf boats with 100-200 hrs on them.

Good point. Having real-surfed a ton, wake-surfed a little, and just wake boarded for the first time ever on Saturday, you are right on the money. Very good insight and contribution, your post was. Thanks.

Unless they lower the bar for safety, the rule for carrying paying passengers is: enough range without refueling, to fly to your destination, then fly to your most distant alternate from the destination, and thereafter for 45 more minutes on top of that. It is not legal to take off with paying passengers without AT LEAST that much endurance.

And that’s the more lenient rule. The rules for long range international and oceanic flying are more stringent.

To carry paying passengers with electric motors using battery storage, They are either going to have to roll back safety regulations… or… come up with something better than lithium ion.

Photo shop or staged picture. 115V would take the better part of a week. 240V would still take hours.

Bull$hit. How do you know how far they were from home or an actual charging station when they ran out of go–juice? Maybe they were 3 miles short... which would be a long way to push that pig.

Just followed your link... They got smart and updated their web site...

-They took down their FAQ, where they make it clear that you cannot repower your boat with their $100K-plus, 180hp, 1200lb battery and motor. They won't sell to you or me.
(probably because most existing boats that are specced for 180hp, would be over USCG weight or nearly so, with that combo).

-They took down their specs on battery capacity and weight

-They did add a new boat to their lineup that might be fast enough to plane, (hard to say). They did give a battery spec... 43KWh: That is 57 horsepower for one hour, from full to empty. Boat weighs 2300lbs according to their web site. The rest of their boats use (essentially) trolling motors, are heavy, and are displacement only, not planing.

-You can still buy the Four Winns (AFAICT the only manufacturer that actually sells a boat with this engine/battery combo), H2e. It's got 180hp and a 70KWh battery. That's good for 94hp for one hour, from 100% to zero dead in the water. And it costs double what the petro version of the same hull that can run all day.

So not much tech change in the last two years, other than to take down (or hide) some specs so people can't run the numbers.

Todd DeFilipps will be the chief referee for APBA and UIM at the Shootout this weekend,

In the past, the Vision motors developed around 340hp per motor, this time? Shaun said a lot more....

Electric replacement motor for gas or diesel, it is kind of nice to have a small diesel generator to supplement power for a Hybrid

is still $23,000 per motor with options for less cost of batteries and a straight shaft.
