Forget the Race, let us get back to shore without getting wet. And save those engines from being submerged, and not have to tear-down and clean them from salt water.

This news clip today reminded me of a cultural-boom consuming, the imaginary world of an author. And I personally saw (at the time), kids getting in long lines to buy the book-series, at our local bookstore. Bringing the youth back to reading ...

    The magic of Merlin.
    The sleuth of Sherlock.
    King Authur like castle.
Robin Hood like triumph over evil.
    Youth set in Shakespearean drama.

A very British tale in the fantasy environ of England. The Harry Potter series is fitting for the upcoming Halloween season. (My confession is, I have never read any of Rowling’s books, but the first Potter movie was entertaining).

J.K. Rowling, a woman who made a cultural impact.

Didn’t Bill Elswick and Preston Henn Have a big rivalry going on in the ocean racing at that time. I wasn’t following it That closely back in those days but it seems like I remember something about it.I think that was way before Kramer Racing. Gene I thought you were involved with Dr. Magoon At that time or was that Earlier.

I think the year was 1979--Preston and I were getting old (ca1931) we were trying to retire our bodies-Preston was buying Porsches---I was buying airplanes---

We stayed in touch--I moved to Colorado--Preston and Doc spent a lot of time in Colorado--

Preston was a pilot also--owned some nice planes--

Two weeks today and I’m on my way to the OFF meeting . Nearly three years since i last saw my family in the USA !!!! Different world today to what it was back then.
couldn’t see an end to my travels ——now i can.
Back then i was growing old carefully —today im on the helter skelter of life and travelling at breakneck speed .
Realistically, this is my last worldwide trip. I’m just not physically up to long distance travel any more —-I’m running out of people to fall out with—- and it’s only through downright “CUSSEDNESS” and the fact i want to see my family [and where they live now, and the fact my son MARK bought me an upper class ticket] that i made this trip at all !
Looking at Gene in photographs , it looks to me like he has the same sort of problems [although he is much older than me].
Funny thing is i haven’t even got a tad excited by the thought IM OFF TO AMERICA !!!!!! Which i always get. It has always been my favourite country to visit.

Hell of a Plane. Yeah I knew that Preston got into racing Porsche Automobiles I think he and John Paul and John Paul Junior were Friendly competitors. Randy Lanier To was around that scene. I didn’t know you had moved to Colorado I thought you were up in North Florida. Good communicating with you.

“NIC-NIC” —john Nicholson of NICHOLSON/MCLAREN —- boat he is standing in is my Hodges/Cosworth that i ran the BDG in. He said he wanted to join me in campaigning the 2-00 litre cosworth . Then he went out and bought a shed load of new mercury motors and a wagonload of spares .
in the background is the DFV Cosworth/ Hodges with me in the stove pipe hat PRUETT gave me. Sitting next to me is Chris hodges .
Raced the Cosworth at CHASEWATER quite a few times —- won the Duchess of York there with it , beating both works entries of Percival for Mercury and Alfie Bullen for OMC . finished 5th in the world OZ championships with Both OMC and Mercury fielding full works teams .
Didnt quite get it right that day — was a vicious cross wind and the wing simply could not handle it .
Duckworth wanted SEEBOLD to drive the boat —just “to see” so i agreed —- he couldn’t make it go any quicker than i could —— did get a strange degree of satisfaction out of that.
Only three people ever drove the COSWORTH DFV in its short life —- Me— Brett May—Bill SEEBOLD .

    I WISH !!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing meaner in this world than an ex powerboat racer ——- bet you i do not sell anything at the OFF meeting. I am thinking of holding a live auction down at Key West for the concepts .
Anyone recommend a decent auctioneer down there ????????????
Lets face it, almost without exception, colonials have always wanted to pay the same in US dollars as i charge in sterling. Makes a change for me to be on the right side for once.
