It was amazing to experience what these businesses expected to have with their graphics and logos all over a boat for a paltry one-time money payment! Watch what is happening to NASCAR........the big money sponsors are quietly backing away.
Well sponsorship was aLWAYS A TWO EDGED SWORD —— you virtually had to sell your soul to meet their demands .
Parkinson did it the smart way—— he took the money and decided who—-what—where and when. [ but even he was answerable to Mercury ——then there was GARBRECHT !!!!!!! He decided who the winner was !!!!!!!
Was the main reason i never had a sponsor —- usually told them sex and travel before the meeting was half way through.
always stayed friends with BOB SPALDING—we were casually talking about the new John Player deal he had with Parkinson . He just let loose and told me he had to turn down a far better deal with MARTINI ——told him I would have taken the deal. Said GG told him to take the Parkinson deal or there would be no factory backing .
Ever thought why the grass is greener ????????? Nobody ever gets there !!!!!!!

Molinari should have left everything up to an agent and focused his energy on technology and being a racer. When everything (hulls, engines, transport, crew, etc) is bought and paid for by somebody else, then you do what the boss (GG) says. Molinari never really fit in with "teaming" unless he was on top of the podium. No wonder he left Merc. If I were racing for free, I would have happily sand-bagged it if GG wanted me to..............Seebold, Bentz and Fountain were the perfect American combination to work whatever Garbrecht had in mind. Molinari? Nope Hering? Maybe

I got wise to the whole sponsorship / promotion thing. I ended up being a component in a 25 boat turnout guarantee. Once I showed up, I was forgotten and got paid for my efforts on a Sunday evening like a carnival worker. After that, I insisted on a bigger tow money guarantee and no more jibberish about ticket sales percentages. Getting phone calls to support series races started to taper off after that.

You know what Zeebie—- that is the first time i have ever seen anyone telling it the way it really was !
i knew Angelo [Father of Giorgio and Renato] long before Mercury ever did.
Renato was just an 18 year old kid who was learning his trade—- bottom end of the lake in his fathers shop.
Whole family lived in the apartment above the shop.
Further up the lake Jeremiah CETTI had just moved into a brand new four story facility built into the cliffside at TORRIGGIA .
He was building TORRIGGIA tunnel boats. Plus beautiful Vee bottoms that looked like a SONNY LEVI. Design.
How do i know all this — i was there , many times — along with four kids !!!
Renato knew how to drive a tunnel boat better than anyone else around at that time .
I have no idea what or how the deal came about—- but one day Renato [who was 20 years old at the time] moved into the TORRIGGIA factory . I knew it was Mercury that pulled the deal.

Dont even do SILVER GHOSTS any more .
Like to think i do a better job than i used to with the boats , offshore in particular . More demand for those than circuit craft. Design of a tunnel is basically the same, apart from the „“CRASH BOX ??? And the pug ugly motors . Punters do not like boats that are in natural wood —-nowadays they want them painted ——-gaudier -the better !!!

I think Jackie you have a good selling pitch.

You are a racing alumni of the F1 racing fraternity, which gives your models extra credibility.

Artwork done by an actual participant, who raced at Bristol among other places, and raced against the potential buyers favorite driver(s) and teams.

Just a few of the concepts i will taking to the Bristol reunion this month. Thought a few of the old farts might shell out a few shillings and purchase one of these timeless pieces … most of them though are tighter than the proverbial ducks arse —so i will probably wind up bringing most of them back home again .

Just five days to go before the BRISTOL REUNION.
SEEBOLD flies in early Friday morning to Heathrow—Sam Clive and i pick him up and trundle on down to Bristol. Hotel did have the common sense to change the double bed to a pair of singles . You know what the boating fraternity is like. [you only have to hug and walk arm in arm with a man before you are tagged as QUEER—GAY—BENT—CARPET MUNCHER—SHIRT LIFTER] so i am not taking any chances !!!!!!!!
Although anyone who knows me, also knows i am REMINGTON GUN BARREL STRAIGHT!!!
I have nothing against the folk of the other persuasion—AC/DC — batting for the other side —- call it what you will, i just have a deep sorrow for the poor buggers who will never know one of the greatest pleasures in life is a great „“OPPOSITE“ ——even i hardly know how to call it any more.
SOOOO— i just want to set the record straight, due to the fact all rooms at THE HOTEL BRISTOL are sold out, Billy and i are sharing a room. Anyone saying—thinking—mentioning anything different is very likely in danger of having their lights punched out.
Last day of the jubilee celebrations —weather doesn’t look too promising—- all been a huge success so far . General census here is you colonials are welcome to keep Meghan and Harry —-they chose the bed — now they have to lie in it.
Colour is not and never has been a problem——the problem is people.

If color wasn't a problem, you wouldn't have brought it up.
