Take some real heavy duty electric cable 20 mm thick. Cut 28cm strips——remove the inner cables . grind the ends perfectly flat — bend into a circle and super glue the ends together . Stretch over outer rim and there you have it -a complete rolls Royce Silver Ghost wheel .

Credit shout-out to British photographer Brian Dewey.

I saw Brian Dewey at a few European races in the early 1970's. I will share a couple of some of his photos, that survived the Ridgells move back to the states. And then did the circuitous travel from their Tennessee home, to eventually Roy's family home in Florida.

This is Brian with lady friend (I am not certain if that is his wife). At the races, I never saw a woman tagging along with Brian. This photo is at Roy Ridgell's residence in Como Italy next to the Molinari race shop.

The black & white photo of Cees eventual flip is a Brian Dewey photo. I remember Brian and I talking about the first corner and first lap, before the start of the race. I mention you better be prepared, I knew it was going to be exciting, but I did not envision the poor circumstance for Cees vander Veldon.

This inside shot of the Mercury - Renato shop in Como Italy, is also a Brian Dewey photo. This is the bottom floor, where the rigging was done. Both these black & white Dewey photos were taken in 1973.

Boat 165 is Renato Molinari the eventual overall winner of this 1973 race in the Koblenz Germany area.
Boat 6 is Bob Spalding debut the T-3 engine, for the first time in a European race.

I personally fell a little guilty, when I look back on this photo.
The reason being, I was informed the trailing boat flipping is Bob Hering, and I did not remember this.
The other boat 139 is Cees vander Veldon, in the act of flipping. I helped Cees on shore from the rescue boat, and I remember he was not a happy camper. But Bob must have been brought back to shore, at a different location.

So that is why I feel guilty, like I might of slighted Bob, but I did not I just do not remember seeing him coming back to shore. And getting the opportunity to extend a hand, and welcome him safely back to Terra-firma.

ROY, That is Dewdrop and Margaret, his wife when we were all very young.
At the fifty year OSPREY anniversary, Dewey told me he had a loft full of pictures he would get out if I went to visit.
He was the official FONDA photographer —————but was taking RACEBOAT pictures long before that. Simply the best———— better than all the rest.
Paid by Mercury. Just an all round pair of wonderful people.

By the way ROY , the house you lived in on the lake. Doubt if even George Clooney could afford it today!
