Dang Jackie, if your book is full of episodes like "give me my feckin knickers back" you will be drawing readership from women, tabloid readers, and probably me too. Character driven books are best sellers. And just put it in the environment of boat racing, and you will have anomaly. You might be invited to promote your finished manuscript on a book tour.

Escapades of boat racing characters according to Jackie Wilson.

Oh, I got a million of those ROY.
One case in particular you may be able to relate to.
It concerns the Villa D Este hotel at the bottom of lake Como. Prizegiving had finished and as boat racers tend to do , got a little boisterous and out of hand. Wine was free , now that in itself is licence to play. The caribinerie were called and Tom Percival was one of the first to be arrested and cuffed. I was hiding in the gardens, halfway up a cactus plant with Chas Shooter . Tom suddenly yelled out across the water as he was being led away.
BOB, I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN HEAR ME, BUT IM BEING ARRESTED, I KNOW YOURE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE, WOULD YOU COME DOWN TO THE POLICE STATION AND EXPLAIN IT WASNT ME,!!
We damn near fell out of the tree laughing.
Suddenly, a row boat with two people pulled up on the shingle beach out steps Bob , spies Chas and me and says. “Tell me the dopey sod hasnt got his self arrested!
There’s a sequel to this tale, but I have to save some things for the book!

Talked to my youngest sister Jan on FaceTime yesterday.
She always used to come to Bristol for the race, loved to play with my kids, she was only a few years older than them.
Now, breakfast in the KILN at the Dragonara hotel Was simply a fantastic experience. Best chefs in the world we’re employed there. I always liked to get there early on race days. Chas and I had finished eating and we’re headed for the pits around 6 am when we spied my daughter Boo and sister Jan jogging back towards the hotel. I said “ morning girls, you’re up and about early” Jan said” well, it’s a nice day so we thought we’d run back” ! Yesterday she told me that the pair of them had been up all night at a card game with the Bullen boys, the Spalding Kids, Peverell and Goodfellow.and the rest of the drivers kids!
She laughed till she wet her knickers , told me they kept it a secret for over forty years!
I have a dozen more BRISTOL stories.
Ill maybe tell you about the time Mark pushed Chas into the dock ! But another time?

Gene of all the titles online and in bookstores, how are you going to invite people who do not know you, to open or look at a review of your book. Subtitle, I think that would entice readers to open/purchase your book, would probably include; Boat Racer, Fireman, Pilot and more exciting adventures.
Okay Mr. Lanham, a good looking guy in a tee-shirt will catch the women eyes, but what about us dudes?
Gene this is Jackie's thread, and we get to tell it like we see it — correctly or wrong. Please do not be upset with me. I just want the boat racing fraternity to reach a larger audience, than the guys in the pits.
Gene, I don’t doubt for a minute that writing a book is an uphill and thankless task. For years I’ve lied and told my grandkids wonderful stories of boat racing round the world with people who became friends. Many of the thirteen have travelled the world visiting the people and friends I described over the years! Of course I embellished the tales a tad, the way all powerboaters do.
Both my children and grandchildren along with my sisters urged me to sit down and write a book about my life and adventures, my friends and the boating part in particular. Never really thought I was capable of being an “ Author” . Found out I really enjoyed writing in the S+F “Tricks” column. It was the only time I’d really put “pen to paper” so to speak.
So, a few years back, I started doodling , then Clive and Sam set me a programme on to the iPad and it gradually took a hold.
I’m now up to at least a thousand words a day ( Just over two pages) and rising.
I have a few hundred foggies about boats and the jockeys, to fill in the gaps more or less. I have no idea how to write a book ! But Ben Morris, my eldest grandson owns, writes and publishes a monthly glossy magazine called AAH, ALL ABOUT HORSHAM. His dad “Little Jeff”works in a litho shop and has done for forty years, so I’m sure he’ll put me on the right lines cometh the time.
I have no delusions—— don’t know where this is headed. I know it’s taken RON Hill years to finalise his book.
Brownie, I never really knew until a couple of years ago, so I don’t have a clue how many years he worked on Thunderboat Row.
Book I liked best was Crouse’s SEARACE. Rolla and Mark always refer to it as “ THE BIBLE OF POWERBOATING.
I liked Sonny Levi’s “ DHOWS TO DELTAS” but that’s way above my league .
So, I shall just trundle along, tapping my stuff, fooling with concepts, arguing the toss with anyone who can be bothered to stop and chat.
It’s a funny old world we live in at the moment, if ever there was a time in our history when it was time to forget the past and forge the future peacefully, it’s now!
Afraid you’ll have to wait to see what sort of a pigs ear we make of it.

One things your kids should do is drop by and ask you to tell a story and tape it so we have them forever.
We did it with our granddad, they were great from pre during and post WWII, he lasted to 99 in 2003's so saw it all.
( handed his drivers license back at 92 having never made an insurance claim in his life)

You never managed to make it to the Bristol 25yr race reunion Jackie but I had one guy who still races boats came up to me and Dave Brockington and said he used to be part of Jeff Edwards pit crew. Dave and myself looked at each other and said but Jeff Edwards never owned a boat and Dave Brockington and his team were the only pit crew Jeff ever had.Now the story begins because it was all down to Julie and how she got Jeff all his boat rides first she tried to sweet talk Bill Shakespeare to try and get Jeff a ride with his team.Bill managed to sidestep her but Bill sweetalked Dave Brockington who was a distributer for Shakespeare ski-boats to take Jeff on as his driver to drive his V4 Johnson outfit for a few seasons but OMC would not supply Jeff a V6 outboard so she then sweetalked Garbrecht into supplying a V6 Mercury outboard and the loan of a Hodges.

Gene - I guess what you are saying is the book is not about the career of Gen Lamham the boat racer, but rather about Gene Lamham the family man and the amazing life he has shared with his wonderful (she who must be obeyed) wife Karin. Although there are a few excerpts of boat racing included. Still sounds like a good read...

Finally put the four Rollers all together. PEARL OF THE EAST AND THE GETTY are completed.
Two are family matters so don’t count although they carry the numbers six and seven. Twelve in all, and that’s me done.
Just half days in the shop and a thousand words a day is enough for me these days, besides I’m getting accident prone so I think it’s time to slow down and Quit while I’m ahead.
Looking to move to a very nice quiet corner of the village, nice and compact. Down side is there’s no workshop, all there is , is a space for a lot smaller shed.
While it doesn’t exactly thrill me, in all honesty it’s probably more practical. I have far too much equipment , it’s time I thinned it down a bit.
Having another look at the place tomorrow, I’ll decide yea or nay then.
Very small concessions with the lockdown, garden centres can open from tomorrow. Golf courses can open for two ball . Tennis singles, Construction workers can go back to work, but not on buses or trains.
Fly into ENGLAND and you will spend 14 days in quarantine.
In short, it’s a shambles, nobody knows quite what to do. We have 1300 hospitals , yet the total number of hospital covid - 19 patients at any one time has never exceeded 1,000. Now I was never that clever at maths, but you don’t need to be a genius to work out that’s less than one person to each hospital.
We have five new virus hospitals which can cater for 2,000 patients at a time. EACH ,! They didn’t come cheap. To date less than 100 patients have been accepted in total.
Something is just not adding up!
Airlines—- Restaurants—- Hotels——Travel companies The car industry are all going to be bankrupt.
Government is chucking billions into furlough, employers are expected to keep them employed.
Unions are crying unfair! What part of no work no pay don’t they understand?
One thing for sure, the world will never be the same again!

Lousy photograph of first run out with the Torriggia at Chasewater ,
Worth showing as there’s not many pictures of Jeremiah Cetti’s original Tunnel.
World still thinks there was only Molinari into tunnels. I know that’ just not so.
