Just heard Tim Brand Crombie died—— not sure he was that well known in the USA, but he was always around both the circuit racing and offshore in the seventies——- Moved to France many years ago .Another old fart “Copped his Clogs”—-
Time to Don another cashmere—- winters coming and I need all the protection I can get!

Jobs to do for today ?

Was looking round Marks prop shop, came across a a couple of wire cages with probably 100+ propellers in . He told me they were old props from the seventies and eighties, stern drives and biggish outboards, all in original condition.
Alpha ones—— Mercury and OMC outboards—- also some shaft drives.
If there’s any one out there who plays “boats”—— ie, Ted Boyd, Mike Mullins, Rich Luhrs —— a sensible offer ( bit more than scrap value) could get you enough vintage props to last a lifetime plus !

Ah well—- it’s the rush of enthusiasm that gets me !!!
Had dinner with Cadillac Monday night—- Hes always good company, interesting,.
He does have a 41 apache without a title, so it’s basically firewood. He’s proposing to zipsaw it down the middle and sell it off as a pair of very interesting bars——
I once did the same thing with a clinker built rowing boat——- the half I sold, more than paid for what I gave for the whole boat.!
Simply use a little imagination—— if you have the space—— a polished top—- astride an iconic piece of offshore history—— a talking point that can be the centrepiece of any conversation——- remembered for eternity !
Knowing Caddy—- he’ll always do a deal, or a swop, especially if there’s an old broad sculling about in the deal ????

34’s——- 38’s—— 44’s——- All tunnel boats —- all new—-materials , all new—— methods, all new!!
Made to compensate for and accommodate the new monster outboard motors being manufactured today.

Ironic part of all this, is the fact that the instigator of the original V8 motors OMC are long gone—— along with the old names like JOHNSON ——GALE—— Lockwood.
Evinrude , whilst not yet dead and buried is no longer the force it was in the industry—— now its a straight fight with/ the Japs —— Honda—- Suzuki—- Yamaha. All have made massive inroads into americas home market as well as worldwide !
Another noticeable item is the price. Top of the line V8 Mercury will be around an eye watering £55,000—— times that by six for a half tidy poker run boat and you’re heading for a million dollar “fanny catcher” !

When the Victory team in Abu Dhabi ceased the offshore V8 program—— my son Mark bought the whole nine yards—— complete motors—— spare powerheads——all the electrics —- gearcases—- props etc.
Most of it went to Japan!
You know what pilgrim—— for a few dollars more I have heard tell you can get over 700 hp from the R 450 Mercury !? It’s all in the programming????
See the preferred motor for next years F1 series is likely to be the 450R Mercury !!!

Jackie is this you in the white shirt on the back of a KT boat, or a mistaken identity on my part?
And it looks like Tom Percival has T-3 power, but not certain about Bob Spalding's power.

It was nice seeing you, your wife and Bill Seebold at Tavares. I also was disappointed that Gene Lanham did not attend the November event. And likewise (your buddy) Lars Strom and others too.

Too bad those days are gone. Look at the mix of power in that pic. V4 and V6 OMC, Merc T2X and T3 and the inboards. Took my dad to a champ boat race back in the day. First thing he ask me as the boats were being launched..."is there anything but Mercs?" I said no and his interest was lost right there. He used to love going to the races in the 60's and 70's. No brand warfare and a lot of people don't care.
