Thes were trophies given out at most club races in the 60/70’s——- even extended as far as Germany !
Didnt they used to have those hideous four poster plastic rhingies in America ?

The gov was pissed that it happened, brown paper bag to Jo Bjelke-Petersen, ex state premier had constitutional rights to proclaim a uni. Federal GOV has since fixed that.
Only private uni in OZ, not sure how Business values the degrees...

Was a beautiful modern Concept of a university——— what vision and foresight Bondi had——- must have been devastating to win the America’s Cup the first time ever, and then lose your dream university to the Japs in the next breath!
Surely it doesn’t matter a damn whether a uni is public or private——— a degree’s a degree in any language —- or is it ?

This one was clear varnished Obeche———- beautiful looking boat with an adjustable wing on the front earlier. Spent more time goofing about with the damn thing than concentrating on driving.
Boat ran around the 100 mark and was good enough to beat the outboards of that time, once I’d cured the water swallowing problem !

no its not as who validates it, to what standard is it?
Saying that as govs both UK and OZ govs have squeezed the money so the uni's have to survive with foreign students who all think if I pay I get, so they do.
99% of exams converted to submitted papers so you just pay somebody to do them then you pass your degree.
When I was working in that investment bank in the UK I asked HR about it, they said we throw 50% of the UK cv's in the bin depending on the uni, ouch.
I hear from mates in OZ they put the foreign students into separate campuses, hence 2 tier degrees and business knows this.

UK gov also tried to clamp down on private uni's have left just 2 I think as they are religious ones
OZ and UK and 99% of other countries the gov owns the term university.

A degree today not worth one from the old days, when you meet young people today with degrees you can see

Well, her majesty decided I was in urgent need of a bit of religious culture, so we took a trip to CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL.
Thought I knew most things about cathedrals in the Uk——— turns out I knew very little about CANTERBURY——- first Archbishop was Augustine in 597 ad——- getting on for a couple of thousand years previous!
Yes I’m a Christian—— I go to church for weddings—- christenings—- funerals and if I’m in need of Gods assistance——- but that’s about it. I don’t push my beliefs on anyone so whilst I’m not a fanatical church goer ——- I m a believer but not to excess.
So, I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how much I enjoyed the cathedral.
To all my colonial friends, I will say——— if you ever get the opportunity to visit CATERBURY CATHEDRAL——- just do it, you will never regret it.
i have loads of piccies, but I’m hesitant to post them here on S&F—— I don’t need t get into a religious fight with anyone.
Should you want to see them, give me a shout !

Jackie, you will recall that Alf was living in Canterbury during the '80's. In late 1984, as the sole Canadian running on the V8 circuit, I was matched with Andy and Team Bullen/Burgess for the '85 Pro One Series. A week or so before the first race of the season (Munich), I flew to London, stayed with Andy and his family at their home in Herne Bay, then worked on the boats over at Alf's place in the country. I must say, the Bullens - all of them, including their close friends/team members - were wonderful hosts, genuinely fun to be with, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there - which included a day's visit to Canterbury Cathedral! It is truly magnificent, as you know.

I would love to see some of your photos, so please post a few (or PM me if you prefer).

    Cheers,
    Mark

Whoa—— we’d better slow down that particular racehorse Mark——— Problem here is, you need a couple of volumes if you want to talk about Alfie and the Bullen’s——- the legend—— the myth—— the antics he got up to !!!
Without a doubt the most lovable rogue on this side of the pond——— ranked alongside MORALES AND KRAMER.
I will need time, and sit down and think how best to answer this !
I will post some piccies of the cathedral——- it’s an awesome place—— home Of English religion——along with Westminster———- as important to an Englishman as the Vatican to an Italian.
Although I try to steer clear of religion —- once I get into it, I realise just how passionate I am about it, so I have to tread lightly to begin with.
Heres a few to be going on with—— if you want to see more, I have a bunch of them, just let me know!

I remember them well but not fondly. Action Marine's predecessor Banshee built a number of them and I drove a couple of them. they were very inefficient. It took a 455ci v8 to push one as fast as we were running with a 99ci Mercury on the same hull. Steering power on was vague and non existent off throttle. There is a series running those big inch jet boats. They run them in winding shallow ditches against the clock. Full roll cages cause they don't always stay in the ditch.[QIOTE=jackiewilson;3114628]Click image for larger version.

was at long beach California in ‘71 when these were handed out—— I remember it well——- Gabbelich had just been the first man ever to break 200 mph .
Kathy Flo Smith was timekeeper——- Gabbelich took his helmet off in celebration—— Kathy declared the run null and void———- SH-T hits the fan !!!! MEMORABLE ,!!!!
