They were considered & called mid-engine cars. Ford 351 Cleveland 4V(4 Bbl Carb.) closed chamber head motors the first year, 1970...and the highest horsepower/torque, etc. '71-'72 & '73 were basically the same engine with open-chamber(less compression) heads & were then called 351-C Cobra Jets. Same as in the regular Ford production cars, such as the Mustang, Cougar, Torino GT, Ranchero GT, etc.

I had a 351 Cleveland in my 70 Torino. Great motor. The rest of the car not so much. The body and the electrical system had pretty much dissolved by the time I sold it for a song.

In those far off long ago days——- Ford USA—- and Cosworth did a ground breaking deal and the DFV was born————- first cars to benefit were Lotus——- engine and chassis were affixed to the suspension and mounted amidships.
Quick cars could be steered round coRners instead of drifted.
Jimmy Clarke and Graham Hill went to Indianapolis and pissed all over the opposition in a pair of Lotuses .
Wasnt Long before manufacturers saw the benefits of a mid engined car——- the Italians were quick to follow——- the rest as they say is HISTORY.

I was very fortunate in my life to come across such people as Keith Dickworth—- Mike Coztain and Bill Brown, Ben Rood , Jack Fielder and Gloria on the switchboard at Cosworth Engineering. Malcolm TYRRELL and Ian Hawkins on the shop floor. Never realised how they would become such a huge part of my life .

Don’t look like anyone’s coming out to play today———— maybe the Rotory put folk off—— no telling these. Days——— when even the Pilgrims gone quiet, you know it’s not going to be a good day.
Did have a couple of thunderstorms during the night——fair bit of lightning, not much thunder but plenty juice came down.
Walked Indy in the woods around 6:30am—— rain had stopped by then.
Ah well, another day, another dollar——- as the saying goes !

If you went to Goodwood surely you saw a real rotary.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoBp1zXVCNs
But the mist clears as a 3 rotor presumably cosmo motor is hardly standard in an RX7.Last edited by techteam; 07-31-2018 at 09:28 AM.
