For the life in me, I can live see no good reason for a 300 hp 4:6 litre “R” VERADO” engine unless it’s given to some
Teaguey Geeko whizz kid to push the parameters and crank up the gee-gee’s to around 500+ which is well within the 125 hp per litre one could expect from a half tidy respectable motor.
Caldwell have been claiming well over that for the last two years ( 450 from three litres) .
Why would any sane company come up with a “detuned overweight lard arsed , look a like a prawn clampon” ? I must have missed something!
I have championed Mercury for over 50 years against all comers, through good and bad times, but I have to admit that this current effort is not pretty—- not ugly——- but generally I’d have to settle for “PRETTY UGLY”———not quite as bad as Pruett would have called it———-stack of assholes on a mud fence !
    Just asking WHY ?

Are the designers of “outboards” ALL lemmings?
Giggling drunken prawns seem to be the only way to go———- BRP, YAM, RUDES,MERCURY——- they’ve all got that “hey, look at me ma, pissed as a fart look” puking over the transom !
Now. “Way ahead of its time” is a well worn phrase—— often used as the excuse when the product never quite made it———- EDSEL and the DE LOREAN being prime examples.

Thats my point, the designers are saying the transformer generation are buying our engines so thats how we design them.
the CRT engine is for us old timers that grew up with meccano and Scalextrix

( today Meccano stuff looks like a transformer/ outboard engine)

Nothing wrong with an Edsel, it was just marketed as the working mans car, so if you had one you were a working man..oops
They said the same thing about condoms Pilgrim——- Cant Believe the “Transformer Generations” prefer UGLY !
Take a look at “STAR WARS” or Thunderbirds——- kids programs—— right. Everything with a motor in it——- car, bike, plane, rocket ship or submarine has lines, grace and flair———— FECKIN bag of fish-n-Chips has more “OOMPH” than today’s big “OUTBOARDS”

star wars is 100% transformer design, thunderbirds was 1965, tower of power stuff and v4 Evinrudes but they went square edges in 69, Merc designs stood still till 76 and then the V6, square edges, then an alien and now transformer.

Yes, but with style and panache, and a touch of imagination———- designers had flair and a free hand——— today’s designers are hogtied with sh-t for brains————- how else can you describe the drunken giggling prawn syndrome ?

Jackie.....Bottom line is that we were all spoiled by the "symmetrically perfect" design of the inline 6 and nothing will ever look quite as right is the tower of power. Powerabout is spot on that these engines today look like something out of a transformer movie and that is why the transformer generation is laying out exorbitant amount of money to have them. They are butt ugly, but nevertheless, they are selling. Myself, I will always be stuck in the BP, Super BP, Twister 1, Twister 2 generation.

I'm not older than you, all her movies in the 50's and 60's I was born in the 60's, Monroe died 62, all before my time.
    Elle MacPherson is my time
