You need the duoprop as the blade load on heavy boats gets too high with under 15" diameter props so they perform better with 2
Thats why Seven Marine have them as well
Dont forget Merc knew this and made a HP engine the Deuce High, 2 speed duo prop outboard years ago.
Not my line of country Pilgrim ———— there’s a huge gap of the last twenty years ——— that’s when I became totally disillusioned with all things nautical———- UIM—— RYA—— boating politics and everything connected. Switched off——— left it to its own devices and watched it sink ever deeper into the mire.
I was never into”duo props” andknow nothing of their capabilities.
    Maybe you could ELUCIDATE.?

Had a friend in England called Rod Quafe——— he made gearboxes for race cars and bikes, offered to make me a two speed box for the Cosworth ——- I’ve long forgotten the reason I never took him up on his offer. He did make me some special half shafts and trick diffs for my chopped Range Rover Special ( ANIMAL ) when I tried my hand at “Off-roading. But, you don’t need me to go down that road——— that’s another untold story ?
Somehow, I missed the Dueces High Duo Prop 200 Merc completely————- and I’ve certainly never come across it———- was it ever used in anger! Or anything else? Don’t suppose they were ever made in numbers,?
Just out of curiosity Pilgrim—— I looked up Dueces High on Google———— Small Wonder I never came across one ———- would appear there were only two ever made.
Now there’s only one which is museum bound!

Ah well, life is like the road to hell——- “paved with good intentions”, never did finish the latest “Concept”., just as I was about to start on it, I had a sudden conscience pang———- just think, if the bloody boat sank and people had to break into my workshop, their first thought would be “what a dirty FECKIN shop this is” ——— what sort of idiot left his shop in this state ?
So, for the first time ever, I blitzed my shop from top to bottom———- now it’s all ready for me to start afresh when I get back————- you could eat your eggy bacon and blueberry waffles off’n the floor!
Thought about going back in and finishing it, but the drives gone———- locked and bolted, threw the electrics——- shutthe door and I’m done !
Might just get the deckchair out and let the legs see the sun———- beautiful day here, wall to wall sunshine and over 70 degrees!
This time tomorrow we should have just cast off and be heading for Naples——— eat your hearts out my friends——— tomorrow I’m living off the hog.

Perhaps your next concept should be powered by Caldwell Racing Engines to preserve the memory of what never was...

Just like the Dueces High Bob, Caldwell would appear to have priced themselves out of existence, Joe Public has the uncanny knack of knowing something is not value for money !

Deuce high never went into production, too expensive for the time.
I have a feeling that concept will come back.

My brother in law had a rally escort years ago, was full of quaife parts

Didn't Volvo have a dual counter rotating prop out drive for IO's?

yes way back in the 80's
I drove a few sterndrive boats with and without as back to back testing, the duo props were impressive but so was the price of the props.
I like the idea of having them surface so no steering torque or gearbox in the water

PS so did torpedoes in WWII

Little did Jackie know that when he left to go on vacation, the entire Outboard and Racing History web site would go into hibernation.

We could always talk about rotaries in his absence. That way I don't have to listen to his derogatory remarks.
