...Anything a Mercury in-line six of that time period could put out. It was the only unit that could handle the then new, offshore inline six, multi-engine, counter-rotation abuse as well. The standard gearcase & the Speedmaster used on the Twister Sixes, etc., couldn't endure offshore. They had their own unique issues, but worked.

Guess they may have improved them since the seventies Gene, Speed masters were always high maintenance-------with a high failure rate. Lost more races through bottom end failure than anything else.----------damned thing we're always a worry as to whether or not they would hold up. Wasn't until the people at cosworth sorted out a pair for Parker.
Duckworth wanted it changed after four hours, we lost 30 mins trying to get the bottom end off-----failed miserably-------so decided to continue with the original.
It ran for 8-1/2 hrs with 400 horsepower. When it was stripped down, there was no wear whatsoever.
Read what you will into it.

Here we go again------bright eyed and bushy tailed------the power of good sleep, never ceases to amaze me. Induced sleep ( tablets and pills ) never has the same effect.
Im on a 30 day ------twice a day-----magical course of medicine. Last time I tried this, I couldn't stay awake for more than thirty minutes at a time. Bugger that I thought--------simply stopped taking the tablets, upshot was, I simply shut down, couldn't function, sat in a chair and stayed there-----idleitus had set in----------resident indoor nurse dragged me back to the surgery where I was put on the magical, mystery medication-------within 24 hours I'm back in the shop-------after three days I felt back to normal . Up to 7 hours a day in the shop-------jolly FECKIN hockey sticks------once again I'm on the express train--------then comes the wake up call. Slow down buster, you're not 21 any more, yes you can work again, but in moderation-------try mornings only, or an hour in the morning and one in the afternoon.
I suppose a slow down call is the opposite of a wake up call. At least the up side is the fact I'm still being called.
Lassie, if I upset you in any way, I'm sorry.
As I have gone through life, I have always called things the way I see it. Rightly or wrongly that's the way I am. Not many people in the racing world that I haven't had an " Alternification" with at one time or another, and that includes some very big names, from Bill Brown at Cosworth-------Gary Garbrecht of Mercury---OMC--- Second Effort etc. Jim Merton, Tom Percival, Tony Williams,Renato Molinari, Collie Coulson and many, many more. There are a few of them I regret-----but mostly I think I was justified at the time.
You won't find the word "ALTERANIFICATION" in any dictionary or thesaurus because it applies mainly to one J. Wilson esq.
I was 8 years old when My sainted mother left me in charge of my 4 year old brother "Nipper"who was trouble in a red jumper. I got streetwise in a hurry, it was wartime, "NIPPER" never got hurt once, I did all the fighting-----seems like I've been fighting and hurting ever since.
So when I see you leading on about the OMC F1 effort being the best thing since sliced bagel---- forgive me if I don't totally agree----- I'm sure you understand. Youre old friend Jackie W.

Hi Jackie
do you think Fonda were using the term F1 and at the same time so was the UIM/OMC show?

No Pilgrim-------Charlie Shepperd was the first person to use the "formula" system.
He did it so the crowds at Bristol could understand the racing classes better, in those days there had to be a designated formula.
Formula one was max 2000 cc
Formula two was max 1,000 cc
OZ does not have a formula----- it's open ended, even to having multiple engines on the same hull.
There are no restrictions on the hull either.
Fonda ran the Formula one series for two years, with the limit set at 2000 cc------with the full backing of the RYA AND UIM.
Im sure you've heard about the "Factory Wars" -----the skullduggery that went on ------back stabbing and underhand dealings that went on ------both sides were guilty.
ive said it a thousand times------there has to be a set Formula-----------I don't give a flying fart what that Formula is------500 cc or 5,000 cc --------- it has to be locked in for ten years to give manufacturers a chance, so the goalposts aren't shifted every six months.

Well, that went down like a turd in a punch bowl-----if anyone is really interested in the start of Fonda , my son Mark has the four Fonda news sheets that were the original "Formula One Drivers Association
Its all part of the origins of "F1 power boat racing".

Just seen a video of the CRT going round a 12second circuit, --------begs the question WHY?.
Theres a lot of people would really like to see this piece of kit take off( me included) but two years down the line I don't see very much happening.
Can anyone answer me this simple question--------do CRT actually make a full outboard engine?
Do they produce anything other than a very nice short block ?
Keep an eye out for Volvo, if they're on the prowl again, they could do a Carl K. all over again, snap up CRT and go racing.
Lassie is advising the Swedes buy up auntie Evinrude and pay him an advisory commission------at this rate they'll be up with Japs and join the big boys.
There I go again, spouting off about something I know very little about-------watch out for low flying dollies !

First and second year of its inception------think it was 1979/80. Don't take that as gospel Pilgrim-------my memory's shot anyway---------would ask Seebold, but his memory is worse than mine. I remember we had a series that was way ahead of its time, with races scheduled for all five continents------we never did get the Sydney harbour race--------that was the one that got away.
Many years later I went to Madrid then down to Seville to try and organise a race, met with UIM officials and sponsors--------came back with a signed contract and €10,000 deposit---------found out two months later the UIM had sold us out to OMC. --------As an honourable organisation------FONDA returned all the money to the Spanish organisers . ------- we didn't have to do that, but we did!
