Only thing I can tell you for sure Pilgrim is ------there were two of the buggers stitched to the back of that Molinari. It would not have mattered if there had been ten of them on the back--------the class was OZ. Which means it was a runaway formula, no rules or regs, you run what you brung, two, three, ten, twenty outboards on the arse of anything that floats, if ever there was a class designed to kill racing-------OZ is it.
There has to be rules and regulations, strictly supervised and adhered to , available to all comers, to enjoy serious competitive racing.

I'm not against progress in racing-----there are classes for every form of racing, you want turbines and super chargers it's catered for in the experimental classes. Usually these classes are not eligible for the overall prizes awarded at international regattas.
At this precise moment in time, I would say our beloved sport in all its forms is at an all time low, in spite of an abundance of product, money and technology.
Seems to me, the powers that be, i.e.; UIM, APBA, RYA, have absolutely no dialogue with the rank and file of racers, would be racers, enthusiasts.
For years, the powers that be have issued doctrines and dragonian rules that are steadily strangling all forms of powerboat competition, don't matter whether it's club grass root racing, or world speed record runs. We are bogged down with impossible to meet demands under the guise of "SAFETY".
It must be thirty years since WARBY did his thing---------ever wondered why there has never been another attempt !???
Its impossible to build a boat that meets the UIM criteria !
Ok, that's enough for tonight, batteries are all run down, need to be recharged for tomorrow.

    .

Morning Mr.H.------ if you added a "P" you got a good name for a sauce-------that will be totally lost on our colonial friends Steve, will try to explain it in simple terms! Steverino is really Steve Pinson who used to run a boat called "Mister H"---------everyone in the world uses "HP"sauce.
Ok that's enough nonsense for one day, who or what shall we pick on today !
Serra's gone all quiet and probably taken up religion----------Seebold's due back in St. Louis Miss. any time soon, Boyds are still trying to get a full head of steam out of "Redbird"------Roger's still trying to offload "Miss Windy"-----Rich is still trying to make senator-------Gene is still working on the "Malibu" and getting even older!------Willabee still stuck in downtown Ohio , picking on everybody. World still going round ( last time I looked ) . Woke up this morning feeling fine--------proves I'm still here anyway.
Enough of all this------workshop beckons-----been making boxes to keep the latest "Concepts" from harm, not just any old boxes, but something that's worthy of the effort I put into the pieces. Been on 'em for three days solid up to now--------you would not think it possible to spend that much time on cobbling a couple of plywood and tin boxes to house a pair of make believe boats! I did.

Used to be a character called Bob Hammond in charge at the time------ I always had a lot of time for him.
Boating has produced some real Characters in its time, wonder how many of you remember Bob Glenn from EP. Barrus ? He was in charge of the Jonrude set up in England. Think he was Canadian by birth, had a most gorgeous wife Pippa and kept the Mariner flag flying high back in the day.
Billy Shakespeare had a picture of a young Bob Glen on his office wall it was taken on the day that Bob turned up with a new boat fitted with the first new almighty JOHNSON 75hp V4 OMC outboard to come to the UK he was about to give Billy a demonstration of its huge acceleration capabilities so bill watched a young Bob Glen gun this boat across the river into the side of a moored cruiser he sunk it and the picture on Billys wall showed the cruiser being raised from the water with Bobs boat still hanging out of it.

Man oh man, was that ever a slice of unbridled ambition-------bet you a pound to a pincha, GG never ever tried that seat for size, and the APBA would only allow it to run with the unlimiteds , It is in fact a perfectly legal OZ boat----------remember I told you, OZ is a class without a formula, four V 8's fits right into that class.
Must say, the boat looks like a Long Seebold ----- and sure as God made little green apples and it don't rain in Minnieapolis---------they were second effort motors.
Didnt Jimbo do a run against the unlimited ? Or was that the twin engined "Cosworth" ?

You were much more fun when you're lips weren't stuck Gene !
Half of GG's charm was for the left hand to guess what the right hand was doing, plus, he never forgave the Don for not getting to meet the Beatles !
GG did run with the hare and hunt with the hounds--------but let's face it, he was head honcho of hi-perf at both Mercury and OMC--------head of the biggest prop scam of all time ---remember the old firm ------Garbrecht and Fountain ? -------Second Effort ??? Gary lived the life of any five other men involved in the marine industry!
They should rename "THE LIFE OF RILEY" To. THE LIFE OF GARBRECHT !

You never really "Knew" GG--------you only thought you did. He was a good friend to both me and my son Mark Even after I fell out with him big time in '71 after Windermere, we became friends again, and remained so until the week he died.

Another of boat racings "LEGENDS" !

Spent most of yesterday "SWIRLING" -------I first came across this method of finishing everything not painted black on anything to do with race boats. In the race shop in Oshkosh 1970, there was a bench press set up for nothing else but swirling------------foot throttles, steering wheels, steering bars, fuel tanks etc;----------polishing was out the window, a thing of the past--------hells teeth, they even swirled whole offshore RACE boats-------and then the Peterbilts that hauled the rigs.
Around 1970 anything made of steel or alloy was SWIRLED.
Still fooling around trying to finish a couple of boxes to offer safe passage to a couple of concept raceboats. Finally had to resort to cutting up a chunk of shuttering ply that had been kicking around for years and well past it's sell by date, and a length of 2" alloy angle which was swirled into respectability.
Came up with a novel way of lid fixing-------lid comes down on to two six mill bolts and voila !
Find it harder to actually finish anything these days, getting to be a bit of a procrastinator---- have to kick that habit into touch--------not enough time left to start that bloody silly game!
Ah well, as my sainted mother used to say after a "lie in"---- this won't buy the baby a new pair of shoes.
Time to greet another day, then send it packing!
