engine height cannot be altered from the cockpit -----driver has full control of the angle of dangle the whole race. ------might just as well race RC's if you take the trim away!

I have some experience in this area. My personal boat is a 21' Triton fish and ski with a 225 Optimax. I have both trim and power jackplate. My boat likes lots of positive trim but just a little too much jackplate and you get blowout. Pretty fine line on that for my rig.

It was always that way------you can only do so much to get all the boats over the finish line together----the human factor is the thing that can never be controlled-----there's about a hundred contributory
    " MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES". ,!!
Desire, ability, skill, knowledge, experience, willpower, fitness, finesse, mental ability-------large cojones in fact have very little to do with it--------and yes, I do know drivers who piss their pants before and during a race.

I just happened to be in the P1 when Craig had the settings a little too optimistic-------the quest for more top end always did send any boat into the unknown------and the consequences of such action can be catastrophic

But, what do I know, I'm just an old boat racer that made old bones, I'm happy to say !

Had a "part time" day yesterday, it being Mothering Sunday and all that.
I went for the traditional beef and Yorkshire pudding lunch, big mistake , half inch thick cut beef needs to be tender, mine was like shoe leather with flavour------it was tough as old boots! How the hell can an outfit like "THE HILTON" get a lunch time menu so wrong ? Cooking a slab of beef is not exactly rocket science with the bloody chef probably earning more in a year than I earned in a lifetime, so what could possibly go wrong ? Maybe the cow died unhappy, Or it was a twenty year old bull that was all tensed up ? Whatever the reason, I have to tell you, my lunch at the "AVISFORD park Hilton" was rubbish---------shoulda gone for the lamb-------or the fish-------or the veggie burger------anything but the roast beef.
Was not allowed to complain, after all it was MOTHERS DAY.

Hi Jackie..Good to know that you have arrived back safely back in blighty although you may have wondered some at the goings on that took place in your absence......

A question you ( or indeed any of the the other boys) may be able to answer..I read in race reports of tunnel
boats "hooking a sponson" on a turn usually with a not too favourable outcome..

Now is this due to......Bad sponson design/ bad driving i.e positioning..... or just bad luck in catching wake from another boat or something else? Phill,

Phill, its a very loose term that covers a multitude of meanings !
Atunnel boat is meant to run like it's on rails, meant to turn flat and level, which is great for most of the time. But then comes the oft used term "Mitigating circumstances" ---------usually any tunnel boat runs at its best when it's NEARLY free of the water, literally FLYING, but pointing straight--------unfortunately racecourses have corners and you have to "set" the boat, this means wetting the boats bum a little --------bringing it out of the near flying mode to a turn mode, now if the water is fairly flat and level a turn can be made fairly simply --------but usually one or more of these pesky circumstances comes into play, sloppy water, nasty wind, current, too fast, pilot error etc, etc,
Turn the wheel a tad before the boat is set and ready-----------boat does a little skip across the water, give the wheel a flick, then the inside sponson "HOOKS" --------you have just entered the "Oh sh-t alley"-----------sometimes the outside sponson digs, leading to all sorts of unpleasant happenings, barrel rolls--------arse about facers---------hand shaking with the angels------
Hooks can be very expensive and dangerous things-------best avoided and left alone!

That and the skid marks in the Jockey shorts--------once did a blow over in the Torriggia at Iver
Heath-------just carried on and finished the race!
Second blow over was Havasu 1970--------did not carry on racing-------chopped off my nose and got a free ride in the chopper to Needles hospital and over 100 stitches.
Upside was, I got to talk to Joe Fielder who was in the next bed------he was in a much worse state than me having blown over a twin Glastron Molinari.
Blowjobs in a tunnel are not something one really ever gets a taste for !
