I would call a few insurance companies and see if they would insure a 22, 23, or 24 with 300 to 400 hp outboards and then partially base my decision of how big to make the boat instead.
We are having no problem getting the Talon 22's insured in the $800-$1300 range.

I love my 21 but when I bought it I also found it not very usable because it has so little storage space. for bumpers, a cooler, towels, life jackets, and my wife's purse lol. I ended up moving the rear seat forward to make room for a custom hatch and storage space which made the boat 10 times more enjoyable but made the legroom in the back seats a bit tight. I am also always tight on seats. even if it is for small kids. I would suggest a 25 foot 3 seat configuration option for the front and a wide enough boat to fit 4 across the back that can run over 100 with some sort of single 400 on it. Also, think about adding a small Bladder in the nose like a ski boat that can be quickly filled and emptied with a switch to help planing with the perfect prop for top end.Click image for larger version.

No way Todd is considering trying to make a 21' Skater into a 25' boat, that's a fools errand. He already has a set of 24 molds that he's going to clean up. This is about tweaking a 21' to make it more civil while still retaining its speed and rough water capabilities.

If it were me I'd finish up the 24' molds and start turning them out before I spent the time and $50k+ to rework a 21. But that's just me

A friend of mine had one of those. My 22 ft Hydrolift cat was better in every way imaginable. (Much faster, much better in rough sea, much more comfortable ride, much better looking, much less porpoise, much better take-off, etc, etc)

I absolutely love my 21, and with today's technology could probably be made a heck of alot better. I do get a kick out of some of the 21 haters bashing them but yet have never ridden in one. I don't want to start a war here but in my opinion the Argo style boats don't look nearly as good as a skater, let alone have the interior room for passengers, gear, etc. As far as a center pod wouldn't you lose the good rough water capabilities? Also, weren't the 21 skaters vacuum bagged? I can also say from working on the 21 splashes that they aren't built as tough as the skater, I've witnessed stuff break in the splashes (I'm not going to say which one) that has never happened in my 1991.

I dunno if it were me I'd pursue the Hydrostream Vegas/Voyager open bow molds and tooling and make some $. The 21 Skater schmozzle has been tried and fizzled.

Todd I have to agree wholeheartedly with this statement. Stick to what you already have available to you. I do not see how you could possibly recoup the initial investment needed to rework a hull that has been done over and over already. Yes you might get plenty of inquiries from the east coast about building a slightly bigger and reworked skater. But the bottom line is how many of those inquiries will lead to a sale if and when you make a decision to go ahead with this project. I would hate to see you direct your efforts into something that would not payoff for you. The Talon 22's you have coming out of your facility right now are coming out beautifully. And only getting better with each one you build. If you feel the need to rework or tweak something for the east coast then do it with one of the 22 xl's. As Mjw930 stated in regards to the 24 mold start getting those going first because with the great work ethic and the enthusiasm you and your hardworking employees have I feel you can build an awesome Talon 24. Which should hopefully satisfy everyone's appetite for speed and rough water. Well I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do. Sorry everyone if this was a bit long for a first post.

Skaters are best built boats hands down. Charlies boats runs amzing fast and fun and he drives it like stv even taught me a thing or two on how to drive my old one. If you widen one it would help probably not worth time and money to sell them tho

This is the big hang up for us. I had a past customer offer to step up and partner in the 21 project today. So we will see where that goes.

We will be 100% building the 24-25 hull and plan to start laying it up soon (like 2 weeks).

Are you going to build up a center pod or just build one straight up out of the existing molds first then go from there?
