    Carniti outboards

Lasse Strom was bloody good in that class along with Paul Kalb, Roger Jenkins, Michael Werner, Tony Williams, in fact most nations could field quite a few world class racers. That was until they allowed "Funny fuel"---------methanol, oxydol? Alcohol, Pepsi, You name it, they ran it, finally the class disappeared up its own backside through lack of parental control-------really was a beautiful class while it lasted.
I can remember a race in France when Tony Williams ran a 14ft Bristol V hull powered by a 3cyl Carniti outboard in the FU class it went like a rocket. Just going to try and test your memory here who ran the first small cat powered by the new 3cyl OMC 55HP Evinrude triumph in early 1971?.

    55 came out in 68
    by 71 it was a 60
    72 was a 65
    74 made it to 70hp
basically was sold from then to 2000, not a bad production run probably what made the class so good
Maybe it could re start with a e-tec 90?

Could?-----if you get anything up and running Pilgrim, first rule is control it, give it a "FORMULA",
Keep the cost within the realms of reality-------Not "CUCKOO LAND"
Tell the UIM what you want to do, for Gods sake do not under any circumstance let them draw up the rules------it will never get off the ground otherwise!
We were so close to getting a "GREAT" class with the OE-------if it had continued before the dopey fuel days, imagine what the speeds would have been today? Around 120/5.
Make it Formula 1 and you will get the Arabs, the Japs, the Chinks, The Ruskies , Scandinavians and Uncle Tom Cobley and all demanding to take part.
Who knows! You may even get good racing back in North America-----or maybe they'll just stick to Poker Runs.
The Far East have more than enough outboard engine manufacturers to match OMC & MERCURY.
HONDA, SUZUKI, YAMAHA, TOMATSU, imagine if the Koreans and Chinese were to show an interest.
Half the old farts would be clammering for a high-perf dealership.
Just put a ceiling on capacity for five years-it could be fun!

Had all day in the shop, got the motor and tail plane section finished, cut out the outriggers and turned up the nose cone, beginning to look "VERY INTERESTING" as they used to say on the Rowan and Martin show ------The Laugh in i think it was called, Goldie Hawn was just a kid back then.

Well, at least I thought somebody would have remembered Goldie Hawn.
Ok so you're all tuckered out and nobody wants to play.
What, not even one person wants to tell me I talk out of my rectum?
Theres an opening if ever I saw one Willabee!!
Even Stevie Pinsons not telling who had the first-----------------
Its gone 6am, time I was up and running, looks like it's a nice day ahead, got some polishing to do today.

Always liked John Tucker-----he tried for years to get me to sign for OMC, went to Brugge to their facility on the canal and dined at his home, even had Bob Glen come to my shop ------offered a great package including a finance plan and the Johnson dealership. Turned ' em all down.
Even Jenks tried to get me to race the 850---- he always said he had more fun racing the OE than at any other time.
Today was Shrove Tuesday ------traditionally its called "Pancake Tuesday"----- sure enough The Kitchen Goddess had a stack of 'em lined up for breakfast with lemons and sugar ----my absolute favourite way of dealing with them.
Daughter Kim is out of hospital but is still bed bound though she did take the dog for a walk today

Mark did his usual stint at the Miami show------tells me the convention centre is being torn down. For the next two years the show has been moved to the Marine Stadium.
That should be fun ! One road in and out over the bridge----wonder who's paying the bills at the stadium, seems to me there's a difference of opinion on who should pay?

Ted Jones was telling Mark he planned to do the 24 hours of Rouen in May ------tells him he hasn't decided on the rig yet ?? Er, Ted, we is nearly into March------it's run on the first weekend in May, better make it next year!!!

having problems with the canopy on the latest project----can't get the bloody thing right, only thing I got is a moulded three eights thick plastic "IKEA" chair which her indoors deemed surplus to requirements !
Have stitched it all together and mounted it on its base-----looks the piece, I have to say , did the boat in English oak with the pods in Brazilian Mahogany. May do a series two, 'cept this time I would use Walnut. I'm never really happy with varnish, it's nowhere near as tactile as a few coats of beeswax.
Will post you a couple of pics and tell me what you think.
Have to pull it and reassemble it with a bit more care than usual.
Hope you like the base------never tried this before------Mahogany------polished!
time for Bizy byes MYGGWY .J.

All the snow the USA have been having missed the south of England completely, the jet stream has moved further north than usual and taken the snow with it. Here we are rapidly approaching March, just enough timber cut to see the month out if it stays like this!

Collecting a couple of Jillys grandkids (Mathews)------meeting them halfway down near Stonehenge.
will give the parents a bit of a break---------it's half term here, they love coming to stay, usually get spoiled rotten, I just turn a blind eye and earn a few brownie points.

Means I won't get into the shop until late afternoon-------project "CONQUISTERDOR" is well on its way and I wil show you how we're progressing. Looks like it's going to be a nice day for the journey, may even reach double figures if we're lucky.

Picked the children up ok and had a comfortable easy journey, took about four hours. Forgotten how tiring an eight and seven year old can be, be glad when they're tucked up and asleep.
Did get to spend the afternoon in the shop, took a couple of picks and realised the thing was a little out of kilter. Made a couple of new sponsons, let's see what happens

There's also the "Quicksilver" project which has been ongoing since 2001, seems to be serious ------but I'll be shoving up daisies before it ever hits the water.
Warby has a mark two collecting dust------they say fortune favours the brave-----but I hope he's not daft enough to give it a try, he used all his share of good luck and more besides getting the record-----------------CHOP EIGHTEEN INCHES OFF THE RUDDER,!!! You couldn't have written the script.
There's always somebody somewhere in the states building a record boat, but I haven't even heard a whisper for years.
Windermere was the place where so many people just got on with it, might be something going on up there.
