Hells teeth, was that ever fun while it lasted-----the halcyon days, I thought they'd never end, burned both ends and then set fire to the middle-----thought I was indestructible ' till i had a heart attack at 44-----slowed me down a tad, but not for long. Took a while to work out how to beat the system-----specially the medical examinations which examined the old ticker before I could get a super licence. Got the licence and went on to race the Cosworth . No regrets whatsoever, UIM and RYA Don't make allowances for drivers who have a touch of angina.
Civil aviation have no place for would be helicopter pilots who had a heart attack, but I got a full licence -----forty years on I look back and wonder how the hell that happened------but it did.
Keith Duckworth had a heart attack around the same time----aviation authority refused him a chopper licence but he was a high profile figure and wouldn't buck the system, he laughed like a drain when we talked about how I fooled them.
Funny how things worked out, Keith got divorced and married Jill-----Spalding got divorced and married Jill, one of my best mates Ken got divorced and married Jill, me myself got divorced and married Jill. All within a year of each other.
Must have been something in the water!!!!

Made it up to Scotland and had my first tasting of a very fine 17 year old malt before dinner tonight, gonna be a hectic four days at this rate.

US Ryder cup team arrived amidst much brow ha ha , should be a lot closer fought thing this year, what with Mc Ilroy and Mc Dowell slinging crap all over the hog market . Europe by a point, but I know nothing golf. Could go either way,

Contrary to popular belief the Scots are wonderful people to talk to, droll sense of humour, laid back and laconic in outlook. Talked with half a dozen different folk at the bar before dinner, and during and after the meal. Strange thing is not one single person I spoke to wanted a split with the UK.
Had Tempora shrimp then Haddock and fries----too stuffed for puds.
On to Fort William today, then back to the GLENMORANGIE distillery at 4pm-----no telling what I'll be like at 6pm.

    SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS TRIP

No, you definitely would not have liked the trip to the GLENMORANGIE distillery, you would have positively hated the tour and the tastings.
Sorry about your bad luck peeps, will tell you all about it in later threads.took enough piccies to keep the national geographic mag. happy.
Switched the TV on and saw that finally Cameron got his arse in gear and recalled parliament to support the US and France in strategic air strikes----he's had his head buried up his rectum for far too long.
It's all Ryder Cup fever here in the highlands, daughter Sam is following all the action, on paper, the USA don't have a prayer------that's the worst time of all to tangle with them, the buggers will come out like cornered tigers.
Dinner is served, so I gotta go, more before bed.
P.S. You don't have to read this-----things back to normal Sunday night. J.

Didn't get around to the I pad last night, you don't after a feast of a meal of the highest order. Better write you the menu before I forget.

    Large malt laphroig.
    Puffed pork skins
haggis eclairs smoked over burning heather at the table
Smoked and baked salmon over seaweed
Scottish blue cheese & pear mousse sorbet
Lobster Thermidor with scallops and langoustines and baked oysters
Raspberries with whiskey and oats atholl
    Large Drambuie liquer.
    Coffee and truffles.

I would have been a moron if I hadn't just enjoyed the whole thing and gone to sleep, which is exactly what I did.

Got news for you Pilgrim, there's over 100 versions of "COOKED OYSTERS"------you never been to New Orleans ? (Creole) -----Florida (Rockerfeller) etc, etc, etc, as Yul would say!!!

Bad oyster is 100% guaranteed to give a dose of the "squits". Do not go there

    Attachment 306734

The glenmorangie Attachment 306733Airstream at the entrance to the distillery.

I once towed one of these all the way through France and Italy on into Switzerland for Phil Rolla.
All the barrels you see are from the Jack Daniels Tennessee distillery, to be used for storing original Malt GLENMORANGIE . They also buy all the used Jim Beam barrels as well as French Sav-Blanc and Chardonay barrels and Portuguese barrels.
Just as a little aside the distillery produces some 6 million litres of malt whiskey per year.
Non of this is sold for ten years, some of it twelve years, and some thirty.
Prices start around £20 per litre up to thousands.
got hundreds of piccies but I guess you will be well pissed off with me long before then.

Ryder cup fever here in Scotland, sat with a group of eight Americans over here to support the USA.
tell you what-----they had positive views .
Opening ceremony was fit for the Olympics ----still, no doubt golf can afford it, pity none of that sporting cash went into powerboating.
Do not doubt for a moment a bunch of players have the odd,Sunseeker or Pershing tucked away in the hanger next to the JetRanger and Gulfstream, life can be a stone bitch being a working golfer these days------wish to hell I could play even half decent, I'd be screwing a few shillings out of somebody somewhere.

...shuck,er...open your just picked up oyster. Have your fire going with some Oak or Pecan wood to give it some flavor. On the Oyster drizzle some melted garlic butter. Don't know how to make it, well....look it up!
On top of the Oyster before you put it on the smoker add some grated Parmesian cheese as well as some chopped up green onions. Want to impress your guests? Add a good sized shrimp right over the Oyster.
Once you have them all tricked out put your Oysters on the rack and then let them cook in the shell and make sure that they get some good smoke on them from the hardwood.

.....Some darn good eats for sure! I usually hire a local Mexican just to shuck the Oysters so we can keep up. Everybody likes these darn things!!

There you go, that tells you there's more than one way to skin a cat, and just reading the recipe makes the taste buds tremble. I could not have explained it anywhere near as good so thanks a bunch G340
Always makes my day when other folk join in and comment, just wish more of you would join in the fun.
Daughter Sam sent me a text at 6.32 am informing me she was in the second row on the first tee at Gleneagles, bloody hell girl, it's barely light, she says it's blue sky and warm (for Scotland ), and all the guys are in blue and gold and it's the happiest day of her life------------she might have waited another hour before imparting the news on a fast asleep father, I would have been a bit more enthusiastic then.
Off to Skye this morning, tell you about it later, rain stopped and can see Ben Nevis.J.

Got off at crack -o-sparrow caught the ferry to Skye, weather was on Amber alert and it was touch and go whether we sailed or not. It was blowing a hooley and waves were breaking over the bow and washing the cars down, I didn't care, mine belongs to Harold (Hertz).
Had a leisurely drive over the Skye countryside and big eats at a seafood shack. If you ever get a half chance, take it and visit this neck of the woods, it's well worth it , countryside is a cross between British Columbia and the pacific highway through Oregon . One things for sure you'll remember the trip for the rest of your lives.

Sam kept me informed via text of the Ryder cup progress, on the hour every hour, she goes from demented depression to Eppy euphoria in the blink of an eye, says it's the best golf she ever saw, but pairing Galacher and Poulter was a ginormous error of judgment.
Done six hours mountain driving today, grey cells are near leaking point, they need refresh, get back to you shortly.

Never did get back to you, sorry bout that but I was bushed.
US down 5/2 but the score doesn't tell the truth, it was much closer than that, and today will be mighty for both teams. Wish the "Sledging" would stop, it's not necessary, and the pillock screaming "Get in the hole" needs his vocal chords tended to by a throat surgeon!!!
Sam texted already but at least she waited till after7am. My sex and travel reply was heeded.
    time for "Brekkers"

Caught the nose bleed special this morning, was up long before Crack-o-sparrer, arrived at the Inverness airport at 5-30am, was back indoors by 10-30, hells teeth, the boys haven't even teed off yet.
There have been four occasions in recent history when the score was 10/6 on the second day, guess how many times it's been overturned for victory-------I don't hear the FAT LADY yet!!!
We can chat about it later in the day, but I'll have a bet that the final score will be a lot closer than it is now, with just a point in it, American pride should kick in about now (11.30 tee time).

Sorry to have to say it but Watson cocked that up right royally. Why the hell he left out Phil Mich. in the foursome after he had seen off the worlds number one will always be a mystery, to lose 3 1/2 points out of 4 was the worst possible call.
Thought it was gonna be close 'till Justin Rose halved the 18th after being behind the whole game, USA capitulated -----lost all the fight, 2years to work out how to win the Ryder cup back again.

Thats enough of all that, all back to normal service tomorrow. Next trip is the old farts in November when we can lie profusely to each other. Should have time to show you what tricks this old fart will be getting up to, in the meantime enjoy life and good health to you all and May Your God Go With You. J.
