Thats a foggie of the Rudes serial number----meself thinks it's from the fifties! Someone out there will no doubt disagree , but will listen to all comers.
Next up is one of the oak leftovers on the base of some spalted beech I turned a couple of weeks ago-----trouble is ,,as I was turning it I could still hear the birds twittering it was so bloody green-----consequence is, severe cracks from a---hole to breakfast time. It's just timber doing what it does best ------cracking. Bye bye time.

Dontcha just love a wise arse!!
He's quite a nice guy once you get to know him is R/J, touch on the " Paunchy" side but he should be lighter by November.
Knows all there is to know about WANKELS and can blind you with science about the 62 % after burn of the rotor stroke at bottom dead centre compared to the lassitude logistics of direct blown interjection when compared to the trajectory of the mean principles of codswallopary. (If you know what I mean).
The Rude is lying prone on the workshop floor, I keep tripping over it and a little voice inside ime keeps saying------Forget it----don't do it-----give it to the dustbin man-----there will probably be a collection charge.
If anybody out there wants it for a tenner, please put me out of my misery and come and collect it.
Gods taking a leak out there tonight, it's bucketing down, even Murphy's tucked up and asleep, she's usually on the prowl 'till the early hours. Looks like we're getting the tail end of hurricane Bertha , gonna be a piss poor weekend according to the meteorological whizz kids.
Me myself is quite happy to frequent the workshop and listen to the pitter patter.
Got a 1970's karaoke at my neighbours on Saturday night---fancy dress and all that----he's given me my own bottle of GLENMORANGIE SINGLE MALT to sip to try and get me to croak along ----will have to sink a fair amount if he hopes for a JRW one night only. That's me done, MYGGWY . J.

Give me an address and I'll send you a ten spot tomorrow. You can add whets left of the Glenmorangie if you like. Besides, it the wobble of the thingamagig that gives the torque to the bottom end and makes it howl like a hog; at least that's what she tells me. God bless.

Sir Jackie, I feel compelled to inform you of the degradation our society has declined to, want you to be prepaired for the moral decay permeateing our society with our youth before you arrive on our shores, being of French Huguenot sir name I feel qualified to explaine any questions concerning the lyrics. Life here is not as it was, but we can work together and still have a common goal, with that said please try to understand we are a continent in decline,

Found some old photos with old memories
Hi Jackie never told you this story before but back when I first started racing boats it was with one of my school friends ian we shared the costs together as young lads would do.When we progressed to the bigger class of boats he decided he wanted to become a co driver so he got his licence from the RYA off we went to Carr Mill for a club race so he could practise these pictures tell the story.Ian was bottom right in this picture
After this accident he decided he was better suited to pit crew.

That old 16'Levi was good to you----is that the one you won with at RABONDAGES? or had you got into tunnels by then?
Don't ever remember you having a good tunnel boat, you seemed to be pioneering oddbods with a collection of "nearly boats" i think things took an upward turn when you went with OMC.

Steve, to get back to Levi's, this was a joint effort between Len Melly and John Merryfield--------Both excellent racers in their day under the Double M banner [MM] Len was into flying Fixed wing as i was learning to fly the Enstrom and met him down at Shoreham airport -----that is where Souters was based [builders of the cold moulded Levi's].
MM did build just one tunnel boat , but it was an abject failure, it was built for Clive Hook??
It met an ignominious end in the London Road Car Park on bonfire night (its all it was fit for)
Merryfield did have a brilliant engineer in Jack Mountford, he served alongside Bill Benson----Don Ross's mechanic at the Bristol aircraft factory.
Merryfield should also be credited with the first tunnel boat to compete in the UK ----a Prout cat with two 35 hp mercs on it ----a good e class 50 Merc and a Blu-fin was still quicker and he was the sole agent for Ron Wolbolds Blue-fins. Enogh of all this Im off to a party.

Steve, the Levi tunnel was built for Phil Hook, not Clive, as I said, it was a disaster, it was too long, far too heavy and performed like a sick dog----it was never ever raced, only tried out.
this will be short and sweet ----it's coming up midnight and I turn into a pumpkin any time now.
Here's a shot of the wilson as you have never seen him before MYGGWY .J.

Have to tell you what a great success the 1970/s karaoke party was---all my neighbours and friends from the lane were there, dressed In period gear----was like the Isle of Wight and San Francisco of the 70/s reincarnated. The girls all got into the swing of it, and I felt I could have taken any one of them into the woods for foraging and rumpy dumpy! Mind was active----finesse was there, just this damn old frame was a bit reticent, I'm sure most of you know what I mean.
Started out with the GLENMORANGIE and then moved on to JohnSmiths best bitter, have to confess they both slid down nicely, my body quit shortly after 11 pm, it's only 200 paces back up the lane, but the feet were a tad leaden. Jilly and I hit the sack just before midnight with "The Eagles"--"Bread"----"The Bee Gees"--"Billy Joel"---The Carpenters and Roberta Flack still ringing in my ears,'twas another glorious evening to remember.
Will try and get back on to some boating topics later in the day-----But that's just one of the TRICKS this particular old boat racer gets up to in retirement, y' all have a nice day, the tail end of hurricane Bertha just hit-----The garden needed the juice anyway!

Well Jackie I remember the M M Hulls attempt at building a circuit Cat my old friend Alfie Bullen brought it to Carr Mill for Phil to race with a 125hp Mercury this cat was laminated marine ply the same construction as the Levi 16 it looked like 2 Levi V hulls side by side joined by a tunnel imagine the combined weight it was around 18ft long. Alfie found his smallest prop it ran around 25 / 30 mph it just pushed water needed around 300 hp to even try now these were well respected racing boat builders they had raced against the early Molinaris in the Paris 6hr race how could they be so far out?
