It's kind of funny you say "remember the days", every time I see that bottle memories of Renato and what took place at that event come roaring back.
i have a 1971 Dom Perignon but I would not dream of opening it----it's been kicked around from pillar to post , been stored in 11different houses. It has never been cellared and would be totally un drinkable .
That does not mean that your bottle is not quaffable Bill, if it has been stored in a cool dark place and not picked up and shaken every year or two, then there is every chance it could be ok (providing it wasn't PLONK in the first place). I would think Renato would always buy a superior wine. So the balls in your court!

right Stevie Baby-----let's get things into right perspective here.

    1976. 3 liters F1 motor ---150 lbs of T. = 450 HP
". 1.5 liter Renault F1 motor ( full blown) 700 HP but with no grunt and time lag.

lets carry on down the road apiece (like 40years) and see where all this has gone, and if it has actually achieved ANYTHING ,

2014. F1motor ----1.5 liters 750 HP (full blown) RPM upped to 15,000. Another 150 hp outa thin air, or braking if you want to get picky

    Question begs-----in 40years what's been done?
We always could could get tram ticket numbers from Turbos and turbines(super chargers) so what is so surmazing about 500 from 2liters,

Wonder how many have picked up a turbine and carried it yourself into the boat.
40years ago PRUETT took me to meet a guy called ART ARFONS, he was working with Ric-Le -Morte? And PRUETT picked up the turbine and handed it to him.

All I'm really saying, it's called progress, a bit like Evolution in man-------but we still destroy each other on a daily basis----think on it-----NO. I am not bonkers

    Jackie:

I am awaiting your admission of error regarding our 5 Liter bottle......

This will, of course, use up your one annual mistake allotment for 2014.

I took a couple of pics of the bottle. It says 1967, so it was already aged 5 years when I received it in 72. That makes it closer to 47 years old

    wine .....

Last picture ..... being the connoisseur of fine rum & coke that I am, I must admit that I have absolutely no idea what this really is. However, coming from Renato, I'd bet it is/was very good and probably a tad expensive.

Its always nice to chat with you Jackie now this is how I see it from my perspective out of the three FI engines you mentioned the Cosworth 3.0 litre would be the cheapest to buy i have been told todays cost around £100,000 new and the others anyones guess. Now move on 40yrs the VW/AUDI engine i am talking about is a everyday production stock car engine with only performance add ons the kind of car your wife would do the shopping in on a Saturday. Now the surmazing thing with this engine is if you were to race it in a boat it would be a bundle of fun with all that power which i think even you would agree on this` and if you blew the nuts out of it you could ring me up and buy a used one for £1500 and just swop all your add ons?

Jack are you sure the DFV came from the stock block series? You had one I didn't but I always understood it was a separate venture by KD albeit with Ford backing........Phill.

Stop trying to split hairs here Stevie, do you think (stock )Audi/VW blocks are like the old lady drives to Morrisons.
If memory serves me right, Fords investment was £100,000. (Price of just one of today's engine)
