Chatting with a European racer on the weekend he said they are all fed up with buying new engine designs every couple of years as the UIM with Merc dictate what happens.
When he looks at a pair of 300's from a about 5 years ago to what they need now, its more than doubled in price.
Put the race engine brand out to tender story coming back again
They have heard Honda is looking around...

I weighed a 250R with Darris back in 2018 and it was 560lbs, oddly enough the R cowl was 34lbs and the Pro XS cowl was 27lbs. I cant imagine the R mohawk weighs 7lbs...
Getting an accurate weight on the V6 200R versus the V8 300R's 561 lbs will be interesting for sure.

Did you weigh it without fluids? Mercury lists the weight without fluids. Mercury lists the 200R SM weight as 489lbs. dry, with the cowl, no prop. 514-489=25lbs. 25lbs for 7 Quarts of motor oil and a quart of gear lube sounds about right. Looks like Merc published the correct weight for the motor.

We did not drain the fluids, weights above are with engine oil, filter, g/l, and some gas in the fuel system. One thing I will mention, this is not an off the shelf 200R w/ DTS....this is a mechanical test engine that we have been running for Allison and Mercury Racing. There could be some variance there, but not much.

Did you weigh the motor with or without a prop? I heard the DTS has a total weight of less than 3lbs for the entire system.

Does not include a prop, hub kit, or steering system.

514lbs for the V6 and 561lbs for the V8. 200R is heavier than we would have thought. Appreciate the info FBM!

Honestly for that little of a weight difference and the fact that they both run the gigantic diameter gearcase.. I see little or no reason to run a 200r... For 100hp Ill take the extra 40-50lbs

So the new V6 200R digital scale weight is 514 lbs and the V8 300R tallboy is 561 lbs. Is it accurate that Mercury only offers the 200R in DTS so that you can not plug it into any older rigging?

That is correct. DTS only. It requires new rigging. I called around to a few dealers. You cannot rig yourself. You must pay the dealer to rig it for you.

That seems like a money grab. Why would they force you to use dts instead of cables??
