...omc had been dumping pcb solvents, used in the process of washing of new parts, "directly" into waukegan harbour, for 50 plus years, as well as many other chemicals they discovered via harbor bottom sediment samplings/testing & on plant property....in 2012-2013 the entire waukegan harbor was hydraulically dredged in an attempt to remove some of the PCB's, etc...

...in 2010 over 350,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil & sediment were excavated & trucked to an off-site location for processing & disposal. ground water plumes were discovered to be highly contaminated with site related solvents, refered to as dense non-aqueous phase liquids, or DNAPLs, and were treated in 2011 with bentonite clay & zero-valent iron to break down the contaminents. other lower concentration contaminated ground water plumes were treated in 2014 by injecting the groundwater with an oxidizer(sodium permanganate) to break down the solvents. this whole site pollution problem goes on and on, and continues to be a process even today...

    Similar to ASARCO Tacoma WA

Very similar to ASARCO smelter clean up except ASARCO had a huge stack that dispersed all kinds of toxic dust for 10 miles in any direction. Federal funding paid for six vertical feet of topsoil to be removed and replaced for any home owner within that 10 mile radius. The smelter is now a site for condos, theaters and open air markets.

There is just so much to possibly say about one particular topic along a narrow line.

I guess you can always be grateful for the posts that keep the thread on or near the first page ... instead of lost 10 pages back ...

    Velvet Glove For OMC?

Lawn mowers, scuba pumps, house boats and house trailers didn't help the situation either. The sterndrive program was a piece of junk from the start.

All of the OMC staff know, it was strong in the Strang years then pathetic leadership sent it down the mine along with the rushed to market ficht stuff
At least OMC can say they didnt help Yamaha to take half the market, that was all Merc

I have Said it before and i will say it again, Whoever made the decision to take the easy way out and add 2 cylinders to the v4 crossflow instead of producing the loop charged v6 motors they were racing at the time sent the company on a path that eventually put them way behind all the competiton years down the road. What yamaha did proves it with out a doubt.

I think they bet the farm on beating Merc with their V8 program.......and almost did.........then came the EPA emissions directive deadlines and that changed everything. FICHT was a foolish shortcut attempt to do that. The writing had been carved in stone........end of the line with 2 strokes. Mercury went back to a clean sheet of paper and started with the Verado. OMC did not have the resources ($$$) to do likewise. Yamaha (to this day) is struggling with emissions and their OEM prices are ridiculous.

The marketing of 2 strokes was a dead end but the emissions were way in front and still are with todays regulations.
Lets see what happens when 4 slugs are forced into cat cons due to their huge co2 pollution, ( running rich to get over the nox issues) etec wouldnt need them but I guess thats a historical fact now..
BRP should have dropped a rotax into one model line to test the market but oh well, same management skills that took over after Charlie in the USA and they exist in Canada too?
