...This particular spot was where she lived with Ralph Evinrude and was on a higher bluff elevation, was 53 acres with a excellent view overlooking the St. Lucie River...She donated this large parcel to the city there & thought it would be used as a park for the people in the area as the other pieces were, before she died...

...Instead, the city saw the monetary value to sell it, and the future endless tax revenues, and sold the entirety to a home developer... But hey, they did put the name Evinrude on one of the streets. What a shame.

When she donated it she should of put deed restrictions on it. I don't trust local government. Or any Gov. for that matter.

Charlie Strang, then at Mercury, invented the stern drive. It’s surprising OMC did not do better with it. Patents I suppose.

Yes that one is an early prototype with sand cast housings. By production a lot of changes were made.
I actually built a couple of drives with coned lowers for an offshore race.

The cobras weren't a terrible design. The shift mech could be wonky a little and the oil fill procedure killed a lot of them but anything was better than the 400/800 mess.

...OMC did not invent, or was the first to manufacture, an outboard bracket...and neither was Scott-Atwater for that matter...
