Hey a friend of mine‘s two sons are going to race in Key West in November. Mark Selley‘s two boys David and his brother are running a production boat down there. Mark was one of the crazy people that went to Havasu back in 69 and I just recently was able to get in touch with him again after 48 years. If his sons are anything like him it’ll be a party. If you get a chance Jackie connect up with them. Amberjack

Funny thing is —i was in Havasu in ‚69 , along with DON ROSS. We went there on a fools errand after Bill Steele told us he would have a a boat there for us to race .
Was mostly a construction workers village made up of containers to house them —The Nautical was fresh built and the London Bridge was a heap of stones .

Have no idea what kind of sh-t you’re on Fuji but count me out —- a white Burgundy is my favourite . Daughter Sam drinks only champagne —Demi sec for preference and almost any make or vintage will suffice . She upped out of my league yonks ago.

I remember the nautical Inn you could still smell the paint on the walls and 69. We wanted to take one of the pieces to the London bridge get it in the damn bag pick up truck. Next time I went there 20 years later it was all put together. I figured They’ve got our piece of the bridge buried pretty deep. Oh well

Every now and again i chuck myself into working on things i think about. This has to be instantly and the cost is putting everything else on the back burner . Reason for this is „“I FORGET“. I never remember what the hell it was i thought about in the first place until months , or in some cases years later. I shudder to think of all the wonderful creations i might have done if only i could have remembered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Above are a few of my fernaglings. over the last few months .
i shall be taking them down to KEY WEST in november —- Mark will have set up his stall in the village [ [usually pretty close to the CONCH REPUBLIC] and i‘m hoping to find A LITTLE SPACE FOR FOUR OR FIVE CONCEPTS . Should you perchance to pass this way please stop and have a chat at
    THE WILSON CUSTOM MARINE
stand. Kid just happens to be one of the worlds leading authorities on marine propulsion .
TEN YEARS WORKING AT ROLLA IN SWITZERLAND ———TEN YEARS WORKING FOR TWIN DISC [ARNESON] on. Surface drives .
Not many of the „“EXPERTS“ on propellors can match that pedigree .
It‘s not until you start talking to him [or have him fine tune your props] that you realise he does know what he’s talking about . Be it a hydro F1 or an offshore raceboat —ski boat or RIVA or PERSHING Superyacht. He‘s the one that can always put things right . There ain’t no substitute for fifty years in the business .

It seems like we were always looking for that "magic bullet" propeller. I managed to find two of them in my years of racing. The rest of the time I just made do with what I had. Winning consistently required the right propeller for the application.

I really was fortunate enough To have PHIL ROLLA as a friend and advisor who looked out for me for over twenty years . My kids just loved Renate his lifelong girlfriend and my son Mark worked for him for over ten yeaars in Lugano Switzerland . I was fortunate indeed to have Phil as a friend.

I always found in racing it was best to keep at least one propeller blade in the water. When all of them got out of the water it was over easy and landed hard. No fun at all

Whilst i was cobbling this latest figment of my imagination, my mind wandered [as it often does] to past—present, and future of powerboat racing as we know [or knew] it.
Latest thoughts i have on this is the simple fact that the one constant remains throughout
    THE OSPREY RESCUE TEAM !!!!!!!!

Over the years i have wined and dined with them —fought with them —shopped with them —-played with them . Watched them grow from a club rescue team to the worlds finest life saving team on the water.
Seen the kit grow from being „“ADEQUATE“ to „“ESSENTIAL“ personel grow to include professional divers —paramedics —doctors — purpose built life saving water craft.
What we now have has taken fifty years of nonstop research and development to reach a standard to which no other rescue team can compare.
I have known almost every one of these guys that were involved with the team since its inception —right from Georgie Bell who dug into his own pocket to get it off the ground. Stew Stripp who sponsored them through the rough times — Freddi Miles who „“INVENTED“ the drop down ——-David Parkinson who FERNAGLED motors out of Mercury Marine and E.P. BARRUS.
Not forgetting some of the original OSPREY TEAM MEMBERS which include PETE HOY—-LEEK—-DOGBREATH and RU.—- STEW STRIPP—-ANDY NEWTON—MALCOLM —NOOKIE—-TERRY—-BOB REYNOLDS . Please forgive me for leaving some of them out . Wasn’t intentional—just old age and forgetfulness creeping up on me !!
Would be difficult to find a more motley mob anywhere —- but as a driver i always felt better taking to the water if they were around.
THOUGHT I MIGHT JUST FERNAGLE AN OSPREY TROPHY FOR THE WORLD FI SERIES —Simply let them decide who would be the recipient ???????
