I am pretty sure Gene also retired from the City of Miami Fire Dept. in 1982. That was the same year I made Chief Fire Officer with the County fire department. I soldiered on for 21 more years retiring in 2003.

SOLDIERING ????? Not a word much used these days , but if i can borrow the phrase for a moment .
i have been soldiering on for the last 40 years since my retirement in 1982. A hell of a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then . A lot of my friends and acquaintances never made it this far .
i have watched my kids grow from children to damn near retirement age.
I have lost one along the way and it still hurts today as much as it did twenty five years ago.
As the song says REGRETS—IVE HAD A FEW , but for the most part —I DID IT MY WAY .

So i had a ten minute haggle with the guy —he was asking £100— c’mon ,give me a break —what damn fool buys a grass cutter in winter !!!!
Thats when the fun starts —- was an all electric start- with a dead battery ——- ho ho ho and a bottle of rum —- you ain’t never going to sell that in a month of sundays . Walked away. Called back just before i left —— he cried as i handed over the £40.
Knew i could make a great profit —— then i tried it and saw the beautiful stripes —— £40 down the tube .

Been diligently ploughing on refurbishing ROLLS ROYCES . Definitely not building any more .

. This was three or four years ago when we all met up at Zealand station for the OLD FARTS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNEY. Buffalo Bill Baker did most of the organising including the fantastic bar-b-q at his home afterwards .
Bert the Squirt is seen on the left [explaining how things should be done—always tried to punch above his weight] Then a couple of my favourite people DENISE and MIKE BUTLER [ WORKED IN PR FOR MERCURY IN OSHBERG since he was knee high]
Then there’s DOUG the PREACHER MAN, can be seen at every self respecting circuit race in the USA.
STICKLE of course — one of the original TEAM MERCURY drivers — Tommy was always one of the most respected and loved drivers who ever sat in a boat.
OFF gathering is the only meeting place left on earth where you can get to meet the few remaining ORIGINAL legends of powerboating.
For next year , i am thinking of getting together with CADDILAC and Mark , and my youngest daughter Sam, to organise something or other that will make the 2022 a rather special OFF OCCASION.

ROLLS ROYCE just smashed the existing world record for an all electric powered flight . Reached a top speed of 387 MPH. —- climbed to 3000 feet in 202 seconds —-

Just spoke to my son Mark, he was down at Key West all last week doing his thing with High Perf Propellers and upfazed gear cases —- hot stuff like that.
Told me over three hundred Poker run boats were down there — parked outside the conch restaurant were six boats with 26 motors on them —— looks like the monster “OUTBOARDS” are here to stay’
Christian and Ian Toll made it down there ok.

Just reading BERNIE ECCLESTONE‘S book ——„“NO ANGEL“. Always known Bernie was a tad „“Deep and Devious“. —— Being a WARREN STREET Trader it was always going to be so.
Commodore of the LONDON MOTOR BOAT RACING CLUB —-CYRIL BENSTEAD was also a Warren Street motor trader . So was Collie Coulson [16‘Levi SH! U-NO WHO]. Half way through the book i realised what an important part of the F1 motor racing scene he was/is.
Bernie is the RINGMASTER of FORMULA ONE —- without a doubt he single handedly brought about the wealth that is in F1 today—— How did he become so rich ?????? He takes 8 percent from the top of everything—— now that is one smart little fecker . HE OUTSMARTED THE F1 AUTHORITIES AT EVERY MOVE. Definitely the most interesting biography ever printed —- you should read it .

SINGLE HANDEDLY took F1 from a rich mans amateur sport from back street garages to where it is today. He didn’t fare too badly along the way . Just dont ever play Chemin or poker with him.
nobody has ever seen him dirty — cleanest individual on the planet. Bet he knows already who will win this years F1 championship.
