Very sad even worse when the boat damage looks like its survivable.
Time for another look at offshore cockpit strength

Thought you knew better than to throw out comments like that Pilgrim.
A broken neck looks like no injury at all even though it's fatal.
search for safety within the sport in all classes should be of paramount importance at all times------unfortunately, nothing ever gets done until tragedy strikes------then everyone and his granny chucks toys up in the air crying "Unfair".
You only have to look at WARBY'S fight with the UIM over high speed safety issues to realise that very few individuals or organisations are capable of even addressing the problem, let alone deciding what the solution should be !
One thing I do know-------the only people capable of coming up with an answer, are the competitors themselves-------the survivors-------those that have been there. Pen pushers, administrators, do gooders and theorists will never find the answer.
There are a rake of people who are qualified to comment on safety issues and none of them are in either the RYA, UIM, OR APBA-------try looking to the Ospreys. The All Stars-----the onboard doctors----boatbuilders----- new materials------F1 car construction. Don't need to be Einstein to realise boat racing is light years behind in safety.
specially now when speeds of over 200 mph are the norm and getting quicker all the time.

...Dick Luhr's played the aft gunner in the 1981 movie...(uncredited)...True story. They had decided it was just too risky to play any other part, as he was just too valuable & famous of an actor. Here he is, in this photo, as always, blowing away the competition...

I was the one who drove the boat------I even had a stand in driver-----made a shed load of cash working for the "MOUSE"
Hodges and Pinewood studios with Dave Minty doing the design and artwork.
Filming took place in Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo------second unit went to Paris, Switzerland and the island of St, Marguerite.
Wrote off seven 911s Porches----One 40' Abbatte ------six twenty foot Squirt boats and one Hodges 17' three seater sprint.
Budget was Seven million dollars in 1980------was overspent in the first month.
Many thanks for the pickies Fuji
I could write a book about the six weeks I spent in the South of France doing that film.
The stunt team who did "THE ITALIAN JOB" were employed to do all the driving, but Remy Julienne said no way was he driving the CONDOR boat, so he got me my EQUITY card.

After shooting was finished for the day in Antibes, all the actors and crew were drinking steadily in the El Negro bar, Olly was well and truly shackled when he collided with a short but well built French cameraman------beer was spilt. Punches were thrown, and Oliver Reed was smacked under the jaw and went down like a sack of coal. When he came to, he apologised to Marcel, threw his arms around him, drinks all round-----------Olly could drink more than any two men I ever met, but never got evil with it.
Everyone loved working for "The Mouse" and was grossly overpaid into the bargain, stayed at the best hotels, dined at the best restaurants, and had the biggest expense accounts------I bought the wife a gold Rolex out of the proceeds.
Somedays you eat bear -------was contacted years later and asked if I was interested in working on the Bond film "SKYFALL"-------but by then I was way too old and well past my sell by date !
