It's not worth all the expense and the worse cg to gain 7mph. Now, if that 400R were a 550-600R, his 24 would run in the teens!

I feel the same. The whole point of going to an Outboard is to gain power to weight advantage over inboard. all as they have done hear is make a motor so big and heavy it can only run on a 30+ft boat. There are lots of 400hp 340 lb motors out there right now and for 12-15000. dollars you can have one. You could put 3 on the back of these xcat boats and weigh less and have way more power. Unless they make as much HP as a car motor thats sub 700lbs and 800hp they missed the boat on these ones. The SHO is 505 lbs? How much HP are they getting from that 4 stroke with boost? 99% of the performance boats cant use this motor and make gains. I totally am missing the point of this motor. Unless it is a way for merc to get out of the outboard business? Untill they can shave 200lbs from the motor or make it 200+hp more they are going backward compared to everything else they have made in the past 25 years.

Only negative being that one is built on the edge and the other is probably detuned and built to last, with a warranty.

I was thinking the same thing...looks low at rest.

I'm curious: the new Xcat ROS motor has a newly designed swivel. We've seen the pics and videos here about them breaking during races. Is it me or is this a new thing? I don't remember seeing outboards do this through the years with 2.4, 2.5, V8, 3.0, etc.
