So back to the original topic, has anyone confirmed that someone can buy an ROS if they pony up the $$$. I've heard race teams only but also hints that maybe some dealers (prolly larger ones that have some pull) might be able to order one...or a pair of that's how they are sold.

I want to build a new project and that's what I have my eye on.

My Mercury sources in Miami that are tied to Mercury Racing as well as people I know from manufacturers that buy a lot of 400r's the answer is currently NO.
That may change at some point but as of today you cannot. If the SBI or other US sanctioning body decides to make the motor legal in a class then they might entertain the idea. I was also told the reason the they are not selling in US for pleasure boats is that even though the motor is EPA clean it is not certified. This costs a bunch of money and I think they are waiting to see how many will sell to see if it is worth while.
It will be on display in Miami at the boat show.

As of right now they are only being sold to X CAT, Believe me I have tried with Rick Mackie and can not get one as of yet. Seems like to me money would be money unless they are having trouble getting them produced and need to fill X CAT first.

There are no active plans to make the 400ROS available for consumers.

Some hurdles that I'm aware of:
    1. EPA Compliancy,
    2. Re-locate the boat side fuel pump, back onto the the outboard,
    3. Underwater Strike safety testing

400R is going to be the package for now.

Seems to be the standard anymore...like a Skater though, you at least know the quality is there. It also keeps the used market well.

did the middle east force the conversion to the 400 vrod on the xcat as the price of oil was too high for a 2 stroke or are they short of oil?
