I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

If you think about it . You will break it down to being five different boat's tied together.
There is the main fuselage , long and flat, as well as being the widest of any other section of the hull .
The front sponsons are the second longest and widest . They are also the lowest point if you set the hull's bottom flat and then measure to the ground. Sitting out away from the fuselage they become hulls two and three. Their wide stance provides stability at high speed , but create a wake of their own at lower speeds.
The rear 55 gallon drums ... err sponsons , keep the hull from sinking from either sitting and from getting swamped with back wash while coming off plane.
Being mounted inboard of the front sponsons , they are affected by the water coming from the front , be it good or bad. Being mounted just a little lower than the fuselage they become hulls four and five that provide just enough lift to get the gear case out of the water where the slightly negative prop angle will lift the hull to the point where it's just riding on the front sponsons , gear case and a little bit of rudder.
Running at speeds lower than just touching those three points will make the package as a whole temperamental to the different water conditions , each hull see's .
What's the answer ..?
I would have to think that now that the G-man has run it around canal-X long enough , movin shiz around, doin plug chops , adjustin the Motec to where it wont hurt nothing on a 30 - 35 second pull . I think he's ready to give his baby ... err ... the boat his blessing , and turn the wheel over to the man who they decided 6 months ago is going to drive it ....

Chaz just what were you drinking when you came up with that? You are just a welder. I bet I know what it was your son had to sit you down in the shop, draw a picture and take you to school. Man I bet after that session he was so worn out he may have to skip the gym for a couple of days

I thank you guys for posting these updates, but I don't know how you do it. I could never have the patience to deal with all the "helpful suggestions".

Mr.Rick ,
I know I'm some dumb , but I ain't plumb dumb ...
I've narrowed it down to a couple thing's , I spend way too much time behind the helmet or it's the flashback's they promised ... err ... warned us about in school 40 years ago ...

Well the kid's got the whole second shelf of the fridge filled with asparagus. I think he's gonna start today , breakfast, lunch and dinner for two days . Then it's show time ...

Ya know Tiger , if ya listen long enough the answer might come from the most unsuspecting place ...

I hope "The Kid" has it dialed in already and can just fine tune for the contest.

I admit I did not read all the threads but in the pages I read I gleaned the design to be a 4-5 point hull outboard powered. I got nothing on construction material, engine type or size, aerodynamics, hydrodynamics or the real progress (if any) that had been made in the quest for the record/s. I know that in the early 80s a group of us purchased a purpose built Carlson hull in an attempt to see how far we could go with Merc power but it fizzled pretty fast. I read with interest the narrative of the current record holder about the hull being so loose it skated sideslipping down the course and just how narrow the edge was to disaster and have been waiting a long time for someone with the big b___s to try it again. So what is the straight up scoop. Where do you stand now and how fast have you gone?

This project has kept my interest sence it began. Those involved with it have a very large undertaking and are on a good time frame. I`m glad to see that they are taking it one step at a time and solving one problem at a time as well. The driver will benefit greatly from this. What a lucky guy to be able to say that he broke the outboard world record. I know it`s a team deal and can`t be done otherwise but the driver has to put his life on the line. Credit goes to all.

It's easy to just spit out a number , like say , It's been over a hundred with the General/ Slave Driver / motor builder / rigger / behind the wheel and not be lying. But as far as I know , the "designated driver" has yet to be in the boat , in the water .
I do know that when a speed is posted , it wont be by any one of us . It will be more of an official speed , rather than an internet number ..
How fast did your Carlson go , you know , on the clock .. ?
AZMIDLYFI hope "The Kid" has it dialed in already and can just fine tune for the contest.

Well my daughter in law swept both woman's classes , and my son placed second in his class. The judges told him that his oblique's made him look fat on stage .. he said : I've kicked the stuffing out of two heavy bags , I'm not gonna become a ***** just to make you happy ...
Now he's like Denzel in "man on fire" ....
I do know that the General told me ,
I need a mid for the baddest 4" bore V-8 I have done yet ....
We aint skeerd ....

Sadly we did not put it on the clock. Initially the engine parameters were to burn alky and nitro with a shot of N2O basically a grenade motor. It was just in the early stages when it all fizzled for a number of reasons time and money being the main problem. Wish it could have been completed. There were great ideas but they never came to pass. I still have some unrelated bottom designs I am still itching to try out guess time will tell.
