[QUOTE=jackiewilson;2700653]Wrong pilgrim----Ron Dennis watched over him from an early age----there was no sponsorship from that direction------,just hope for the future. His old man Anthony was the Guppy (great universal provider) he went out with the begging bowl right up to Lewis getting the McLaren deal.[/QUOTE
Wrong pilgrim. Hamilton has been on the McLaren payroll since he was 13. Their young driver program. You can't be claiming his dad paid his way through Formula Renault, F2 and GP2? He was his manager but it was other peoples money.

So saying there was no sponsorship from Ron Dennis or McLaren prior to the F1 drive was just Louie mania.

Barry------that is not what I said at all, I said Ron Dennis and Anthony struck a deal when Lewis was very young----Anthony worked and paid for the early days from his own pocket until sponsorship came along.
The point I tried to make was Hamilton and Button came from a working class backgrounds, unlike others who were born into money.

Well yes and no, tunnel boat capsules still have an issue with the canopy and that has caused deaths in recent years.
Offshore cats still aren't engineered correctly and when going backwards and upside down at full speed then hit they water they fail

Sure but when you have the same multiple failures that kill people, surely its time to do something?
The UIM know about the capsule lid thing but dont seem to be getting anywhere with it, they are thinking sliding lid like a WWII aircraft.
I saw a few sideways version so of that at a meet in the USA last year with a solid front, nice adaptation and that means the sideways opening can use the current attaching hardware, (which is piss weak IMHO)Last edited by powerabout; 11-05-2014 at 05:07 PM.

Did you never notice before that there is NO FUNDING for this sort of thing, everyone beats the drum, but until you get another "HODGES" come along things will stay pretty much the same.
The UIM never was quick at moving forward when it came to dipping into their pocket to fund safety features.
Only time there's any spare cash is if they need to move offices from MONTE CARLO-----to wherever suits
We got "LUCKY" last time------after Percy was killed in Liege, Hodges took it upon himself to develop the safety cell as we know it today. He had been working with John Nicholson at McLaren on the composite driver cell which F1 adopted. He made his findings free for all to copy, did not patent any of his findings.
Unfortunately, I don't see anybody waiting in the wings ready to grasp the cudgel.
Its all in the comics ( record books) for those that doubt what I say.
Had a couple of very good friends came to visit today, so we all went to the "Fish Factory" for lunch, I had my usual a pint of John Courage best bitter and a large portion of moules ET frites,
(mussels and fries)----the others had Haddock and chips with mushy peas. Came back to the house for coffee and carrot cake. Nice n easy sort of day, a week today at this time, I will be landing in Orlando .
Still on the lookout for a spot welder if any of you out there got one, bring it to Tavares and we can haggle, KNACKERED again so I bade you all a fond goodnight and MYGGWY.J.

What you posted was "Lewis and Jenson are the only two of the current crop of drivers who don't have millionaires for parents or blue chip company sponsors, both come from working class backgrounds and were pulled up by their shirt tails. Ability and true grit with a dad that drove them beyond the limit at all levels of the sport is the reason for their success." which is just silly. The "only two" part. We don't have to go further than Vettel who has a similar history except he was signed up by the Red Bull young drivers program instead of the McLaren young drivers program. Although as near I know, his father didn't become a millionaire taking a cut of his kids paycheck. So that is different
