Jackplates going back on. Ran 65 miles today and it was a handful. Motor needs to come down about 1/2" and I cant do that without flipping the jackplate or notching the transom. Trying the jackplate first.
The back kept trying to pass the front today. Just a little too high. It was fine in slick water but any chop or small wakes and it was like trying to drive a skateboard an on ice rink.
Drove through the worst rain ever on a boat and again driving home today.
Thanks for the pics Regan.

Cool Cowl! Tell me about how you made it and what it weighs.
After a lot of head scratching, bloody knuckles, and a broken pinky toe from an epic toe stub on the engine hoist wheel, I was able to lower the motor 1/2" and back 1-1/2". That should settle it down and it may need to come up a little but we will see, If it works well, I'll pull the jackplate back off and just make some 1-1/2" setbacks.
Had to grind off the little "hooks" under the tilt tube that hang over the transom. Steering barely clears and I have to watch how far I tilt it up.

Well the boat runs great and handles a lot better. It likes the extra 2" of setback with less hop letting my run it flatter. Turns MUCH better and doesnt dance side to side as bad in chop.
Now the bad news. The mid cracked. THIS IS NOT A WELD THAT MARTY POWELL DID. Marty did not do any work on the actual mid, only on my swivel. The mid itself was cut and welded by Bob Kottman for Bob Lipton. When I bought it from Lipton he told me it had a small crack and that is had never grown over years of use but that he would weld it for me. Lipton is a prop guy so I figured might as well have him weld it. Unfortunately it cracked again in the same spot but the whole side. It had been fine for about 150 miles of running but I got into some rough water and being a full tunnel, the lower units just takes a beating.
Marty is going to fix it and we are making it super strong maybe with some plates on the outside as well. After its welded, we will surface it to make sure it perfectly square.
Im more pissed about the paint as it came out a perfect match and I dont think I have enough to do another.

That crack went pretty far in a short time, would have been interesting had it not been detected. Nice thing about play toys is they get looked at more often than a daily use item.
