If I do pull the sleeves, I am anodizing the entire block for saltwater use which is something I considered.
I should have the new block next week ( thank you Mackeral! ). It is a 2002is 115 block. Hoping the porting is the same as the 130.
Mike(Mackeral) is also setting me up with the V6 carbs which are supposed to be worth a little on the top end even though they are the same dia. and some other odds and ends. The crate is being shipped straight to DagoDiver and the machine shop. If I dont get to it before he has a chance to open it, Lord knows what he might do to it!

The V-6 special also known as a 220 was the predecessor to the excell. It had a vertical front half and the same porting as the later EXcell.

Ray, what heads and tuner should I be looking for. I remember you telling me the early heads were better? Cant remember what year/serial number though. I have 1994 heads and the ones Mackeral is sending me (2002? maybe).
Also, Mack said the early tuner was better. Any input on that.

Block arrived with some other stuff today (Thanks Mackeral! )
This new block is a 115 block where my current motor is a 130. It appears that Yamaha uses a different cylinder sleeve in the 115 to change the port timing/size. I say this because the exhaust port behind the sleeve is bigger than the window in the sleeve. This would make sense to have one block casting and just choke it down with a different sleeve. The part numbers for replacement sleeves are different as well. Does this sound correct?
The 115 heads are 6E510. Is that the best head. I dont have my 130 head part number handy.
After owning nothing but salt water outboards, I cannot believe how clean this thing is! There will be some parts getting anodized before the get wet again.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

I have also noticed the different sleeve part numbers but never measured them to see what difference there was.

Yes 115 & 130 sleeves have different part numbers. I posted a link to advanced sleeve above, they have almost every V6 exhaust spec on that sheet but for some reason they dont list the v4 spec.
I agree the 130 is probably wider, OMC put a slightly wider port in the carb 250s and it was the only difference between a 225 and 250.

Chris, before i purchased the 130 that you have now i had a yamaha 115. I remember talking to Wayne at HydroTec several yrs ago, he told me the 115 and 130 blocks were totally different, the 130 was cast/ported different. I do remember him also saying it wasn't like they do the 90/115 omc's etc and just putting smaller carbs, different tuner to reduce the power. I haven't looked up the same yr yamaha part numbers on the blocks to see if they have different part numbers. I would think Ray N would know how much difference, if any there is. Good luck with build.

After talking to a lot of people, I have decided Gordon from Monty Racing will be building this one. Gordon seemed to have a real good feel for where I want to go with this. Some of the others I spoke with wanted me to build a 9k+ rpm race motor but Gordon knows how I run the boat. I like to put miles/hours on!
The existing ports wont really matter when he is done with it and he can also do a lot of the other work needed which helped with my decision. Roehrs Machine in Sarasota will likely be balancing the rotating assembly.
I did run the boat today and blew out some more carbon/salt. She actually felt real strong but compression on #4 is down to 105psi. Was hoping it might come up but she is done. Still ran over 80mph with my little prop.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

Now don't you fret Chris, sounds like she's in good hands. Mebbe a lil premature but any ETA forecast?
Sadly I lost a cylinder yesterday afternoon. When I came off plane for one of our beloved Manatee zones, it started coming & going. Still hit on all 4 @ higher rpms, then late in the day she gave up.
Gonna check comp tomorrow. Just had the heads decked & replaced the gaskets a few months ago? Ignition/coil mebbe??
Look forward to seeing you'n Flight Risk after the rebuild. Hey been meanin' to ask where ya got your cool lil bow line connector pin thingy. Kin ya get me one?

Great news on getting Gordon to do the work on your motor. I can't think of any one I would reccomend higher for what you want.
The older the better on most 130 parts such as tuner and heads. Pre 1990 is my suggestions.
They have built the carb 115 an 130 motors for 25 years for sale in this country and there have been a number of changes over the years.
That all goes out the window when you start porting.
My porting hands are struggling due to old age and a severe case of arthritis. Unless there is a drastic improvement, complete retirement is likey the only option. The chemo has helped, but has its on set of problems.
Really looking forward to seeing or at least hearing about the results from this new powerhead.
I still have some of the old model tuners and heads if you need them.Ray Neudecker Over The Hill Gang Outboard Racing
