Never mind...I found it.
This was Schoonover's prototype Dutchman wing. Funny thing the world was aware that you needed more dyhedral to run in sloppy water......and was modifying their designs around that....Apparently Jan didn't get the memo and made this decidedly flat bottom creation....No wonder it beat the crap out of the guys who drove the few glass versions he built.
The Switzer 20 had a nice little 8-10 degrees of dyhedral aft and an assymetrical semi vee in the forward sponsons, which, along with the aero lift from the tunnel makes it fairly smooth in a chop.....
[[/QUOTE]
Rich---Explain that 'dihedral' thing again--we talking about airplanes???
Gene
Besides Petty, I think I can pick out Roy Ridgell, Ralph Seavey. Wayne Vickers and ? on the starboard side----Jan driving----

In post #490, why the safari suits, hats and boots? Not exactly wet pit attire.

"Fast Buck"
Billy Don must have used that name on several boats. Looking at the pictures from Molly B. (Hot Singles) thought it was the Jones-----NOT. Willabee says---Tom Arnstead Twin? Picture taken at the Marine Stadium, about 1971?? by looking at Miami's rapidly changing skyline.

Fast Buck, The Jones twin, Miami Marine Stadium. Gold Coast Marathon, July 12, 1970. Don should have won---BUT----

Fast Buck.....
I think the 20' Jones was the first for that name and he continued to use it for the multi's he drove. I'm pretty sure that he even put it on the 21' Molinari he drove at Havasu in 71. If you look on the deck just below the American flag on the cowl, I believe it says Fast Buck and has a big feather painted next to the name.

Jones vs. Jones.....
Yes, the triples had more top end. The "good" 20' twins had that 105/110 capability, but several of them performed the dreaded lift-off around those same speeds. The triples could run past those numbers and still feel almost rocking chair comfortable. I'm thinking that only one, possibly two, triples were ever blown over.

Thanks for the answer(s)

I am thinking that it must have been a scale speed thing. The larger hull had a lower scale speed and therefore had a higher top end with similar weight to horsepower. That having been said, it follows that the 20 footer probably could have used a bit less lift and gone faster.20 Foot Switzer Wing 2 X S3000 (Dust'n the Wind II)

Post(s).....
Sorry about the multiple posts
, my thingy was stuck and I just kept clicking until something happened!
The first Ron Jones tunnel for OPC was the 18' that Bill Cooper just cleaned everyone's clock with at Long Beach. He could outturn, outaccelerate and simply outrun eveyone on that course. Ron didn't build many 18's, but they never seemed to get into any trouble. Seems like the 18's and the 22's had a symmetry that didn't occur with the 20's. The 20's always had a different, sort of a 'out of spec' look about them. It didn't seem to matter who the driver was, if they ran that boat near the 105 mark, they were really running on the edge.
Cooper in 18', Habay in 20' & a couple of 22's.....

Cooper and this Jones were untouchable at Galveston 69. Most of us thought we had entered the wrong class. Bill Cooper was one of the many great 'Bills'.

In # 1 - you see # 13 Bill Cooper dual Mercury Ron Jones - # 2 - # 152 Joe Habay dual Mercury (missing a port side cowling). # 3 - # 112 Don Pruett (dual Mercury) racing # 15 Bill Cooper KT Class 22 foot Ron Jones pickle-fork. Those were the days, my friend!

Interesting....Kitson told me the same thing about the wings. The 18 footer had a fairly smooth hydro to aero transition at about 70 mph. The 20 footer lopes (porpoises) at that speed and can get pretty ballistic in the transition. Mine is very inconsistent...sometimes it hops around like a rabbit...and other times it just seems to "levitate" and accelerate like a rocket.....
