    # 117 John Henry Price was from Decherd, Tennessee. At the 1969 Havasu World Outboard Championships, he ran an 18 foot Ron Jones with dual Mercury 140's.

Gene..This happened in the late part of the 90's..I think..Name was Dana or Lana or something...This girl was in her 20's or early 30's..She said she was Bob's daughter, but didn't seem to know much about him, or even like him..She was kind of like a female dog..Pretty thing though, but pushy and stuck on herself, and very demanding..I ran her off..

I remember George working with Mr K when he started Kiekhaefer Aeromarine..He was working on the chassis for the GM Motorhome..Had a lot of pictures and stories about it..I guess Mr K had a development contract with GM on it..They had a Toronado engine and tranny in it..

Molly Ballou & the Molly Bee.....

Shifting away from George for a moment, MN4V asked if I had any photos of Molly and her drag boat, the Molly Bee. The boat was a 17' Ron Jones and I think the power was Merc 1250's. The article says she was the first female to surpass 100 mph in an outboard powered craft. It says she flew through the traps in the quarter mile at 109.24 mph! The place was Long Beach and I think it happened in 1971. I don't remember what kind of speed the guys attained driving that boat, someone should ask Tinker.

The shot of her getting ready to run shows her late husband Ken on the right (white shirt). When I talked with Molly last week she told me that she lost Ken 29 years ago.....can't believe it's been that long since I've seen those people. The other thing she did was to scold me for getting her drunk at a race in Provo back around 1972.....almost 40 years ago! We had a good laugh as I listened to her recollection of the events of that evening. They were both a big help to all of us at Merc Racing at the major events and just good people to be around.

    Definately a "Hot Multi".....

As for the intimadator part, i'm not worthy as i got to spend some time with the real intimadator, even changed his right rear tire during a 250 lap race in myrtle bch one time.[/quote]

Jim, you will always be 'The Intimidator' to me----anyone that can run that fast and that hard, on their knees----And I remember you came back to see if I was OK. I also got 'educated' that day----an expensive lesson on 'driving over your head'.

Hope to see you and Jeff in a couple weeks---

Jim and I had a great race in Sarasota in late 60 or 61..We were both running 15' Raveaus..I had an 800 Sportmaster and I think Jim did too. I led the whole race by about 50 yards or so, when my crankshaft broke (again) on the last lap..It slowed me down enough for Jim to get by..He looked over at me going into the turn, asking what happened with the special racers hand signals, dug the right chine and went over..I slowed to see if he was ok and he waved me on, to steal the win back from him..I always loved racing with Jim and Richie Baiz...They were just fun..

I was thinking I never saw you with an 800 when I wrote it..Just didn't remember if the classes were combined 70 & 80..That was a fun race till then..

Willabee, these guys seem to be having a starter motor problem. Again, Parker, 1968. But these are 1100 Stackers, not 1250's----

Hey Gene...Thanks for the awesome picture. That sure brings back memories of a great time in racing. I hope that you do better finding an El Lobo/Chrysler picture than I have been able to do. I have several, but for the life of me, I cannot find them.

    Never mind...I found it.

This was Schoonover's prototype Dutchman wing. Funny thing the world was aware that you needed more dyhedral to run in sloppy water......and was modifying their designs around that....Apparently Jan didn't get the memo and made this decidedly flat bottom creation....No wonder it beat the crap out of the guys who drove the few glass versions he built.

The Switzer 20 had a nice little 8-10 degrees of dyhedral aft and an assymetrical semi vee in the forward sponsons, which, along with the aero lift from the tunnel makes it fairly smooth in a chop.....

Yes they are, that's Schoonover and he seemed to really like the 1100's. That must be the infamous wooden Dutchman from the Lake X tests. The one they used to build the glass Dutchman's the following year. I think that is Petty in the red jacket and I'd bet that is the engine he pulled the starter from and tossed towards Mr. K.
