Interesting....... So "Old Blue IV" was built before "Old Blue III" ( Molinari stopped building full tunnels when the pickleforks came out as I recall). I wonder where that hull was sitting for a couple of years before the 74 Parker race? It sure does look like Old Blue II with a new windscreen and transom mods for the T2x.....but I digress.......

[QUOTE=willabee;1881746]Nah, nah, na Nah Nah.....

He received Old Blue III, an orange pickle fork Molinari, to run at Havasu in 73, and then he got the Molinari in MN4V's picture (a really great shot), Old Blue IV which he and Cees ran at Parker in 74.
Hate to be a 'nit-picker' (and Willabee is one of my favourites!!) but Old Blue III the orange pickle fork was Havasu - November 1972. There was no Outboard World Championships in 1973.
But what is interesting here is over a year later (Parker - March 1974) Billy & Cees dove a full front instead of a pickle-fork. This must have been one of the last big race wins with a full-front. Even in Canada in 1974 Spencer Dunn and Oley Berkis had Molinari pickle forks.
Jimbo ran the small Goat boat in Peterborough, Ontario (1973 I think). Got off to a bad start and almost caught Hering driving one of first Molinari pickle forks

Molinari's.....
About you digressing that is.....
Why would you think Molinari stopped building full nose boats? If you recall the results of Havasu 72, Molinari, Hering & Seebold all had new Molinari pickle forks and they all blew over!!!!! The boats were very fast but tough to keep rightside up in rough marathon conditions. A number of Molinari full nose boats were ordered after that episode.
Seebold actually started racing IV in 1973. Here is a shot from the Memphis contest, hopefully the boats name will be clear.

According to Powerboat (August 1975 issue) at Firebird Lake, May 1975 Mercury team boats driven by Hering and Seebold competed in S class with T-3's and both drove Molinaris. But in U class, Bentz drove a Seebold hull with TII-X. This Seebold hull that Bentz is driving looks very much like the yellow #190 Bill is driving in the picture posted by MN4V (post #1506).
Earlier, in a Mel Zikes column in Powerboat (May 1975) in March 1975 at the Miami Winter Outboard Championships, Hering and Seebold again drove T-3 powered Molinaris in S class, but in U class Seebold himself drove a Seebold pickle fork. The week later, Hering drove with Molinari to win the Parker Enduro in what looks to be the same Molinari hull that Seebold drove in Miami.
At the OZ world championships in St. Louis in 1975, the Merc team boats were all Molinaris with the low centre of gravity rear cowlings. (Barry Woods competed in an OMC powered Seebold and finished 3rd).
At the Parker Enduro, March, 1976, Merc again used the LCG Molinaris.
Sometime in 1976 after Parker, Merc's agreement with Molinari must have changed because at Havasu in November '76 Seebold drove a Seebold but Fountain and Bentz drove Molinaris. Seebold won (now called MOD U).
At Parker 1977, Merc were now using Seebolds as OMC won with Hering/Molinari obviously driving a Molinari.
St. Louis 1977, team Merc was now all Seebold hulls.
I know a lot of this has been covered here before...just thought I would add some pictures to the story.Last edited by peterse90; 01-29-2010 at 01:01 AM.

Little Blue in White
Little Blue after it had been painted white and sent to Florida. This was a Lakeland Fl. race. I only ran this boat a few times in closed course. If you look in the background you can see an old Chevy wagon to the left of the street light. The photo of Jeff Titus in the Scotti on page 100 has the same background. Little WHITE almost laped the field...

What year was this ??? Those barges look like they would hurt if you ran into them.

Ok, Mr Jim Hunt....what speed did you set the record at ??? I believe this is in 1969.
What happened to the days of big grass roots racing and good prize money ??? I believe Erine Threkeld was the only one to run this short course in a wing. The wing he is running is the one he wrecked after the Black Coffin blow over. It was Kitsons old red wing.

If i spend a whole $50 all at one time, i would lose the image it has taken me years to nurture. Another thing Mark, you never did answer as to whether i was eligible for a discount at my age. If Johnny lives in Colorado, that means he can afford the 50 bucks on a DVD. [maybe he will let me look at his when he's seen it !!!!!] Doesn't it always snow all over the rich folks in places like Denver and Aspen and Robert Redbreast type people?
With 11 grandkids and 6 great grandkids, what sort of an example would i be setting if i FRITTERED away $50 on a set of DVD's. NO i am not mean and stingy--------just a tad FRUGAL with an eye to a long and useful life.

To Mark & Nick
You will be receiving my US$50 in a few days. It has to be the BEST DEAL ever for the truely dedicated outboard rev heads who still remember what it was REALLY like in those heady years. Thank you for your dedication & endless devotion in searching out & returning those wonderfull visual memories of our long gone younger days. You are two of the few who don't just talk but are actually doing something that fill the gaps in our long faded & often embellished dreams.
Thank you Mark & Nick
