Seebold boats.....
Yipes.....now I'm afraid to answer the phone!!!!!

Billy Seebold just gave me some answers to the questions we have been batting back and forth. He started in 1974 by building some SST 120 full tunnel boats (I just hate it when T2x is right).
He said the first one went to Bobby Britt in Wilmington, NC. He added the he raced it for Bobby against Benny Robertson at Rocks Pond, SC. He didn't say who won, but I've got a feeling it must have been Robertson.
He said the picture put up by MN4V of the yellow boat racing in Madison, WI. could be the first pickle fork 120 boat and that it was 1974 also. His first Team boat was built for Havasu, 1975. He and Cees won that race and Mercury gave him the contract for the Team boats shortly after that event.
He added that the win at Morgan City in 1972 was his first Team win. That boat was Old Blue II pictured below. I'm going to ask the history behind him and Cees building identical Team boats and we will get that little myth straightened out also.Last edited by willabee; 01-21-2010 at 03:45 PM.

Yikes, i feel good again-----good to see others can get their knickers in a twist after 38 years. A year or two here, the odd Merc model there, A Seebold , moli, stipitch, whatever, slip of the mind , memory gone for a crap,-----don't you just love it when a plan doesn't quite come together. I just made a comment and stood back, Willa always said i could cause a fight in an empty bar. Happy wrestling boys. Oh- by the way---i still think it's a SEEBOLD>

I have never met you guys ( Willabee, T2x, Jackie Wilson, or Seeroy), but i really am enjoying your threads. I've been unemployed for over a year & your conversions beat the heck out of soap operas. Keep 'em coming.

Didn't Seebold just build "boats".
Thought the APBA put the numbers on 'em and the owners decided which lump they stuck on it's bum, and which class they ran in.??? Wasn't it possible to switch motors and run a different class. I know we could in Europe, if you ran in the "O" classes-------you run what you brung. Cubic inches is what made the class, and these were virtually free of regulation. Thus OMC and MERCURY could more or less get away with anything in Europe, which is where they both developed new product. The only time there was any controversy was when nobody could decide what capacity the ROTARY was ,and where the hell did they measure it from. As far as i remember it was allowed to run anywhere in Europe where they ran the "OZ" class
Keep up with the "WILLA BASHING" i'm having a ball.
Love it when eggheads get to arguing.Last edited by jackie wilson; 01-22-2010 at 02:38 AM.

Jackie.... Yes the engines made the class, not the hulls...but based on your rantings above, a T-3 could run on a Sport E hull.............NOT!
You obviously need a bigger, lower lift boat for a higher horsepower, heavier engine...and thus boats were constructed specifically to race in a certain class/ An SJ Seebold was quite different from an SST Seebold, and both were different from a Mod U/OZ Seenbold....etc.
As far as the "Willa Bashing" is concerned........ Not gonna happen here. I have too much respect for him....and based on my recollection of our debates over the past few years, he's been right at least as many times as I have.
The guy who scares me is Mark 75H......He actually does minute, precise research and knows more about things that happened before he was born than the people who were actually alive at the time....

Old Blue.....
Nah, nah, na Nah Nah.....

No it's not.....that is Old Blue IV, the 1974 Parker winner. Seebold ran Old Blue in 1971 with a 1350 stacker. He started running Old Blue II in mid 1972 using a C6. The first race for it was Morgan City, which he won.....his first Team win! He received Old Blue III, an orange pickle fork Molinari, to run at Havasu in 73, and then he got the Molinari in MN4V's picture (a really great shot), Old Blue IV which he and Cees ran at Parker in 74.
He did okay with Old Blue, but it was an older design and the boats Hering, Downard, Molinari and Sirois and a couple others drove were newer and faster. It was actually Old Blue II that sent Billy on his way to Top Gun status.
Old Blue's I, II, III & IV and Billy & Cees.......Last edited by willabee; 01-22-2010 at 11:00 AM.

In that pic of Jimbo, he looks like he has something shiney in his hand? You think he was timing his own laps during practice?
That Goat boat looks a lot like a Twistercraft too. Great pics!1970 15' Allison/135 Chrysler stacker

Hot Single.....
This Goat Boat Jimbo's driving definately was a Hot Single. You always had to be concerned when he showed up with that rig. Looking at it's nose, I count 16 "Merc Kill Decals", allegedly one for every win over a Merc. Looking a little closer at the driver, this might not have been one of it's better days. Jimbo appears to be telling someone that he thinks they are #1!

At first I thought the same thing and then I decided he was trying to look at a stopwatch
