Muckrey could easily do it. But they haven't forgotten the beating they took at Key West after the introduction of the 300r in the S /SS class.

The nutswingers can twist it how they want. But the rules makers were forced to add 500 lbs to the boats. 300xs cranks went from $1500 to $5000 over night. Talk to a company man one on one, they will laugh with ya. Two or more, they have no idea what your talkin about ..

There is no way they would provide parts that would allow the home builder to assemble engines that were lighter, more powerful than the trusty porkchop. Even if it had their own name on the cowl ...

Look at the engine model changes in the top outboard twin engine classes, lots of money burnt by teams due to the whims of Mercury

It would be nice to have individual, removeable cylinders like a snowmobile so you could replace, repair, or re-nik just one instead of 6. Even if you had to pull all 3 off one side as a unit that you could then separate (in order to keep the coolant passages continuous).

You can do cast blocks and front half's ?

8620 carburized cranks 61 on the Rockwell scale. ?

Monty looked into having OMC V-8 cranks reproduced by the original founder, which was Allison Transmission.

Good to know you can do what they can't anymore ...

They could have done that easily from one model year to the next. They continued to race two strokes in F-1 long after four strokes hit the showroom floor.

ACME dud .. did it ever become competitive ... yawn

Guys, if they would sell, somebody would build them. Caldwell is proof that the market isn't there, Brendon is brilliant but has a very limited customer base that he supports. Stop blaming it on Mercury and go build a better mousetrap if you can. I really thought that Charlie was going to be outproducing the 300R and 450R with his Mercury based two stroke big slugs. I haven't seen any of them on the water "not even one" but yet he will tell us how much better they are. There are plenty of antiques at the antique show this weekend. I will post some pictures tomorrow. If you have a two stoke that performs better then my four stroke "junk" on 87 octane then come see me. We logged a little over 700 hours on our boats last year so there is plenty of time to pull up beside us and dance.

You make it incredibly obvious that you have been on the side lines for far too long. I would refer you back to post 44 and also invite you to experience any of our stuff first hand, as I have been doing the past 5 years, but you never show- just talk and complain about stuff you've never experienced or operated. I am no different they you other then I am much more passionate about performance boating, "not performance wrenching" (your have me beat big time on that one and yes you are without a doubt capable and knowledgeable). If I had your passion for wrenching and development, I would be chasing that dream and watching people beat a path to my door while the money piled up.

I don't complain about the new Gulfstream being inferior to its competition (because I will never have one or operate one, which makes my comments meaningless and irrelevant), you shouldn't complain about current four stroke unless you can come out and show everyone how fast they aren't or buy one--I highly doubt either will happen.

But Mercury doesn't sell them anymore so we'll never know. What if Mercury still made and sold the older stuff along with the 4 stroke? What if the SOB guys had a choice? They don't need to build complete motors. If Mercury offered a new 300x undressed long block for under 10k I would have one on the shelf. I think the new 4 strokes are awesome and for the price tag they should be. And there's no arguing they are superior on the bigger boats. But Mercury follows the path of most manufacturers, stop selling the old stuff and MAKE them buy the new stuff. It's nothing new and when you think about it it's a great business model. I enjoy your posts Joe I just wish I had more options.

The way I see this is not anti four stroke which I’m certainly not. I simply don’t like the political horse apples that surround two strokes is all. That’s the beef in the mix for me. The wish for new low cost 2.5 perf parts is simply something I dream of and would buy. Keeping the dream alive is fun and not meant to be mean spirited or anti any other choices.
