Joe is correct. When I first rigged the triple 300R in place of the 300X the boat was actually a few mph slower using the engine height and props I used with X motors. The big gearcase is the reason. However, raising the engines and going with 15.25 diameter props vs the 14.75 I was using on the X the speeds are now the same. Plus, I get double the gas mileage, save .80 a gallon using 87 vs 93 octane gas, no smoke, and no stalling when shifting. Weight with the 300R wing plate motor is only 20 lbs. more than the 300X. So yeah, I am never going to own a two-stroke again. No question the 300X is a beast of an engine that is very fast.

Yes, Warrens 300R set up was on a 24. As proven many times, a 28 will be 1 or two faster on top even though a 24 will out accelerate it most cases. Like I said, nobody has set a 28 up for the new motors other then Warren that I am aware of. I know of a 32 DW with 300Rs that will run 118 consistently and am very confident that we could set a 28 Skater up to do the same pretty easily. The 28 fatcat DW design with 300Rs ran 125 the first time in the water with 4 people of which only one weighed less then 200 lbs.
The best accelerating boat I have ever owned was a 24 Skater with triple 260s. The second best acceleration was a 30 Spectre with triple 260s. It used to take three to get what two will do today.
The noise was great (for a little while), but the fuel that I used was insane.

I do not disagree with you all that if you weigh all things the 4 strokes motors are awesome. Supercharged versions give you more options as there are tons of tunes being run. I believe if we ck speeds at Loto and super stock race boats the 300xs version holds the faster speed in the 3/4mile. I think a few went 118-119 last year. Brad is correct regarding the fuel mileage but having owned 300x’s also there is no way the 4 strokes accelerate like the old motors. That is what I miss. Also agree I do not miss anything else other than sound.
Best of luck to you Joe on the 42 and running 140mph. There already have been too many accidents with those configurations. Not to mention getting insurance. Stay safe and be Careful.

Maybe the right props for a 28 Tuff don’t exist. Those guys know how to set up their boats.
The 300Rs work on the big Allison’s. But I have not heard of a 300R outrunning the 2 strokes on a SOB of any size.

Mercury has lower rake propellers that should be available next week. This will increase speeds again. Any tri-toon (10 brands, pick your choice) will be faster with a 300R Vs. any other 300 hp outboard available. Bullet, Stroker, Stoker, Liberator, Eliminator, Talon, Velocity & pretty much every manufacture running in class 7 how many more examples do you need David? What boats and power combinations are you running?

As far up the .. well you know where and with what, I'm sure they will let ya run the kilo as a mfg ..
Funny, Double throws some real numbers out there ... and the nut swingers come clean ..

I am really surprised to hear you even caring about what Mercury has coming out for improved propellers (aunt, uncle or what ever you are talking about).
Real world numbers show up here everyday when guys run their boats. We were in a poker run yesterday- Kory and I ran 137 on a couple of the straight burst. I guess GPS isn't accurate enough for you now? Is the radar gun used at the shootout any good or are they off as well? Maybe if you get the big slugs put back together and run 135+ in your boat, you will believe us when we pass you with an added clip of over five difference.
I wanted to run the Kilo run and its only for teams actively running in a current APBA class. This is the number we could have put down with the extra distance allowed. Get us both in for next year and I will give you 2K for every mph you better us by with your big slugs bolted to your motion "printed right here for everyone to see"--the same offer is open for the 3/4 mile shootout course and maybe we can do the a side by side run.
I am pretty amped to get into the bigger boat and see it run even better. Like I have said many times, 150 mph outboards are coming via. mercury racing products.

138 mph ... your truck sure runs fast ..... downhill ..

I hung up my HANS devise after winning the 2007 Citrus Nats. (and year long championship) and swore to never put on a helmet ever again. Hundreds of passes over 200 mph (but you know that) . So there's nothing you can say that will change my mind.
But it is kind-a pusswaa to challenge a couple little two strokes with a pair of 500 hp mega-chops ... just sayin ..

Chaz- I think in a nice way Joe is calling you a railbird-without actually using your term.
I don’t think that you can call Kory and Joe winning their class at and setting overall OB Cat High Speed at Shootout 2 years in a row an “accident” or “lucky”. They flat out set the pace two years in a row. Let’s not take anything away from them for that, they earned it.A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

GPS readings are accurate 😎. Just not HP ratings that are on STOCK cowlings 😂. All fun aside still takes skill to set up the boat and dial it in. Nice job Joe and congrats.

Sir Skreamin,
I'm honored that you have, over time, adapted my complete vocabulary of ChazBonics ..
To be accurate, I would have to be present to be a railbird ....
I know your hull is a couple-few feet short of the minimum length requirement to run @ LOTO .. so you get a pass ..
However, my entire point ... was with those (core group of S+F members) in attendance that had legal boats .. who did not make a donation to charity (a pass).
And as you are well aware .. a porkchop is a 300r .. which has nothing to do with a mega chop 450r. Please go back and read .. show me where I'm wrong ..
I never did say anything negative about Joe or as a father myself, about his son Kory.I don’t think that you can call Kory and Joe winning their class at and setting overall OB Cat High Speed at Shootout 2 years in a row an “accident” or “lucky”. They flat out set the pace two years in a row. Let’s not take anything away from them for that, they earned it.
Did I tease a little .. heck yea !
Go back and find where I got a single atta-boy for anything I have ever accomplished from Joe in the last ten years. Thats just the nature of our relationship.
If I needed his help, He's already proven he wouldn't hesitate. Same thing the other way around.
So what your tellin me ... is Joe ran his boat
Jeez, I must a missed it ...
