Commadunce, It's about $50 going to charity , not U'r ego ..
The grammar poe-leese from the worlds largest homeless shelter, making comments. Hey jonboat, show a little self respect, pick up you're ******* trash ..
Ya know yur fukked, when the village idiot tries to come to your rescue ...
Key West, aint that where the 300xs won the world championships. The porky cheerleaders had a mouthful of $hiz .. and couldn't spit out one little piece of it .. LMAO
Add 500 lbs .. that's a real c**t move ..
Seems like it takes a screw blown 4.6 to outrun a old 3.0L two stroke. Thats an accomplishment to really be proud of .. Pppppffffttttttt
I just checked the prices @ motel-6 ... how much is the "joey-junket" less boat ride ..

If the XS motors were so good, people would be buying them up. Even the diehard X guys have moved on. S class racers have their choice but who is still running them? Bill Allen has 4 stokes on all of his outboard boats (personal and race).
Real world comparison for the motors of today Vs. the past; Morgan ran his 28 Skater to 103 with 300XS at this years shootout (biggest outboard available only 5 years ago). Kennedy went 122 with 300X 15" mids and a very refined set up in the past. This year Duke went 131 with the second tier outboard available from Mercury racing. Performance outboards are better then ever and continue to improve.
None of it matters if you are a "run your boat once a week guy" but we have logged 4100 miles since May. Fuel and oil savings becomes substantial along with the fact that we have had one visit to the service department and it was a for a wire harness that was under warranty. Best of all, we have top shelf outboard performance, and that's what we all desire.

As you already know, I'm not a fan of the "seven cylinder" line of "opti-pops". Blocks, rods and cranks are the only thing of value to me. You also know that the bowling ball didn't just raise the price of cranks ... they doubled the price. I can understand the price going up with FJB good evening Viet-Nam economics. But double is just them being double afraid of losing the world's yet again ...

So an X will run 122. I notice that you never mention the "pork-chop" in comparison. Only the screw blown "maxi- pad .. err chop". The standard model must be a real pig ..
Maybe your right .. a breakout class is the perfect place for them. 4.6L, 4 poke should have enough torque to out drive a 7 cylinder out of the corner .. those guys better hope a 300xs doesn't win anymore races .. or they will be faced with being burdened with extra (egg on Mercurys face) ballast as well ...
BTW, I still have the village idiot (CRAP) on ignore ... great feature ...

I mentioned the comparison, in fact I even mentioned Bill by name. To compare Tom's set up, (one of the best in the country), and lots of money spent to get there isn't really fair. The 300R is the best motor Mercury has ever released in that HP category hands down. Randy Corson has proved it over 30 times with new sales and performance reports Vs the same hulls with X or XS motors. I am getting ready to rig another LCB with one shortly. The miles that you are able to confidently cover when you have a 4.6 bolted to the transom is great.
The V.I. has proved himself helpless numerous times and left us no other option.

The twin 300xs boat is all carbon, light lay up. The 300r boat is a heavy build for rough water. No two tuffs are the same, all custom built.

Are these 2 way average speeds or top speed?

Actually if one were to compare apples to apples .. the 3.4L four stroke and the 3.2L two stroke would be appropriate ..

The 3.0L two stroke made 300 hp , or 100 hp / Liter .. the four stroke can only muster half of that ..
It takes a third again more displacement to come up to par .. or as some suggest, close to it ...
Hard to really call those behemoth's ... the best motor Mercury ever produced ..
To each their own .. that's why they make Fords and Chevies ..

Well glad to see you guys are still at it lol. Old vs New. I know I should keep out of this but here are some facts that I know to be true in the Skater 28 and 30 size. Real world numbers with stock powerheads
28’ skater 300xs/113-114mph, 300r/113-114mph, 300x/118-120mph. Fuel economy goes to optimax, with close 2nd to the 300r. performance 300x, drivability 300r, sound 300x, overall handling of boat best with 300x in rough water as motor is lightest. I do agree with Joe all around hard to beat 4 strokes these days when you get into supercharged versions. That is why I made the switch myself. In the 300 world and wanting the fastest rig 300x wins hands down imo 300xs next and 300r. Yes in super stock they went to 4 strokes. With mercury discontinuing 300xs not much choice. The 300r motors have had their share of issues with broken bolts/cowlings etc. With parts for the 2 strokes becoming hard to come by it will force everyone’s hand to move on eventually. I would love to see them build 4 cylinder supercharged lightweight 300hp for you guys with single engine tunnels. Just my .02 cents.

Get a 300R set up properly it will out run any XS set up. You are talking about two very different boats and if the propeller set up and other variables are right, they would be very close. Very few do what it takes to get the cases high enough and prop them correctly due to potential cost.

Good morning Ron,
Just a spirited debate amongst friends. LOL Some take it personal ...usually the ones that would tow a boat all the way to the Ozarks ... and then be afraid to make a pass or ten ..
I spent last weekend out @ lake Placid. Don't tell crew that the Whaler I was on had a 60 pony, four stroke hangin off the back. It was very uneventful, much like ridin the bus ..
I been tryin to tell em ....
Real world numbers with stock powerheads
28’ skater 300xs/113-114mph, 300r/113-114mph, 300x/118-120mph.

Which 300R rigged skater has taken the time to reposition the motors correctly and do what I have done with my boats to optimize the bigger case and propellers (other then Warren who ran 120-123 every-time out with 300Rs and now runs 135 to 139 with 450s every-time?) Until then your best real world numbers won't show up.
Will my new 42 run 140 with 500s when we get it right? Any of the naysayers willing to put a public wager on it?
The new outboard power from Mercury Racing continues to rule and there is no looking back.
Joe
