You guys that work on fresh water motors are really spoiled!!

Try these tools on a corroded saltwater LU that hasn't been apart in years, and IF you get it to spin, whats left of the threads in the housing will come out with it. "Maybe" with some heat from the smoke wrench, but even then those fine threads die easy.

Cover nuts are cheap compared to LU housings. Drill a few holes in the nut at spaced intervals and pop the cover nut out in sections, leaving whatever threads that remain intact.

I soooo don't miss salt water issues ............the fishing is better, but it stops there. jmo

Chaz, i was thinking of possibly a tube that would fit over your your adapter (spacer) that would use a propshaft nut to lightly force it into the nut to stabilize it even more. Thanks for the compliment on the pic. It was just a quick drawing and not up to size or specs. Need to measure width of "teeth" and put 12 on it. Gonna start a new thread about a nik sleeve puller if it works. Will know later today.

It's already about 500% overkill as it is ...
Course it's only gotta slip out of the teeth and ya bean yurself with the mini Thor hammer one time before rethinking an OSHA approved safety devise ...

Turns out I could have used one of yalls beefed up carrier nut tools with a bushing on a saltwater beast today! I had my 240 lb butt on one end of a breaker and a buddy with a hammer on the other end and all of a sudden a couple cogs broke off on nut and sent my big butt to ground! Ended up having to cut that joker off!! Chaz and James you guys are geniuses and thanks for sharing y'alls wisdom with us! Wish more people of yalls caliber would take time and share and explain things as well as y'all do! Love reading post from you two!
