The new shop is coming together
As many of you know, we now live in Milton Fl, a 1/2 hr from the Pensacola Panhandle.
The Mrs says this is the last move
Hope she’s right!
We ended up on a 1/2 an acre compared to the 3 we moved from.
Was always fairly certain (think I’ve seen it done) I could make a house, pool and barn all fit and it worked out perfect!
Way less grass to mow.
Had a 30’ x 56’ barn w/a 10’ wide, 10’ tall carport (lean to’s here in Fla!) down one side w/two car doors on one end and one on the other.
To make the new one fit/work (and afford!) it is 24’ x 40’, w/a 12’ x 12’ car port down one side w/one car door on one end.
So quite a bit smaller but should be fine.
I based the above on the fact the first one I owned was 12’ x 36’ (no carport) and it held my first 24’ Sonic, the tow pig and still had room for a small shop.
Some other changes of Ohio construction Vs Fla…..
Metal trusses vs wood.
8” x 8” posts vs 6” x 6”
Interestingly, I couldn’t find anybody to finish the interior!
Last one I wired and plumbed, this one add, insulate and panel interior.
W/the Fla work ethics…….., my crew averages being on site 2 days a wk so….
Im sure they have other projects but ughhhhhhh!
Crew is one man, his wife and her girlfriend.
Look close at the pics of the trusses and you’ll see the ladies work barefoot!
Im ready for it to be done!
PS, Convincor is starting month #5 of sitting outside!
Ugh!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I gave up the 2nd end door to retain as much wall space as possible, for hanging tools, shelves etc.
W/the 30’ x 56’ I had 140’ linear once you subtracted for the 3 car doors.
W/this 24’ x 40’ w/only one car doors, I still have 116’ linear.
For air flow, w/a 12’ x 10’ car doors, one man door and four windows all open, and fans, I should be fine.
Plus air conditioning
I know on the last one everyone kept telling me, bigger, bigger, bigger but, in my experience, all I did was store more junk in it which you had to cover, move, clean if you were going to paint or grind.
It is also shaded by a tree line until about 9 AM.
I think it’ll work.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Welcome to the area! I'm hoping to get to that level of having a nice size shop in a few years. Can't say I've seen or heard of a 2 person crew like that but it doesn't surprise me around here lol.

A neighbor!
Cool stop by for a beer.
I am in process of collecting parts to build another hot rod like your voyager.
On the barn…….., it took a long time before I had one.
When people admire mine I always tell them of my friends and hero’s from my early days down here.
None of them hade one.
Most fought w/the wife to have 1/2 the garage!
I am always humbled when I remember them.
PS, there is a second woman on their team.
While pissed at their slow progress I told the guy that when they built my 30’ x 56’ barn in Ohio, they were done in 3 days!
Not sure that helped

I'll definitely get there, I just need to take a long time to do it so we don't go into crazy debt. I'd rather wait it out and get the financed amount down. Luckily for me, my wife is all about this stuff and probably wants a bigger shop than I do lol. We're actually working on getting a piece of property right now in Cantonment which is where we live currently too.
As for the hot rod, apparently there aren't too many that run around these parts anymore. I'm very new to the scene, just got the Voyager about 3 months ago and have been trying to learn/get used to it. Haven't gotten the hang of the chine walk yet lol. Hoping to make a river run sometime in the near future too.'09 Hydrostream Voyager

I'll be in East Palatka within the year,
I'm thinking just a big, big roof, like 40 x 70, drive in and out
with an enclosed area that's air conditioned, for painting, work, otherwise wide open
On my present 20 x 40 I made large shutters using steel roofing on hinges. all the way around 12 ft high
So when a Hurricane is coming I lower the shutters and park a truck, tractor whatever in front,
The last class 4 hurricane we were in the eye wall, I had a mini tornado come down my driveway ripping trees out along the way
It got to my rear building with my home made massive shutters that were closed with a dump truck in front , it ripped the shingles like it
was doing a Z , blew out ceiling dry wall, that fell on my motorcycles gas tank
But the shutters passed the test, just 2x4s and steel roofing sheets,
Insurance gave me a $28,000. check for a new roof on the two buildings.

Smart man.
You can’t enjoy it if you can’t afford it.
We shopped all along the Panhandle looking for existing and couldn’t find anything.
We were lucky in Ohio (where we just moved from) and lived in an area w/crazy property appreciation.
Lived there 7 yrs and sold it for 2 1/2 times what we paid for it.
It paid for the house in Milton.
I have decades into what your doing w/the boat and be happy to help.
Once you learn to counter steer for the chine walk, it will no longer be an issue.
Let me know if I can help.
