Ted May and his Evinrude V4 Super Strangler changing prepeller.

If you look closely you can see that May was one of the USA racers lucky enough to acquire a Scotti hull. Ted ran that package for many years at Havasu. Ran his own race and didn't try to beat the factory rides. He made sure he started and was on the course and running when the end of the race was declared. His pit stops for fuel were not frantic. Pull in to his trailer, refuel and have aa sandwich and something to drink, etc then back out again .

That is true here in APBA races. In Paris, where the picture was taken, the Paris officials assigned the numbers to all teams & entries

Ted never laid back, always wanting to win. BTW, he was using the smaller 1:1 gearcase. Looks like the venue was out-in the desert

Bristol was a great facility to watch a F1 boat race.

However, Bill Seebold said publicly that it was one of (if not the most) dangerous venues to race at.
Roger Jenkins, also, said publicly that F1 race boats became too fast to be running at Bristol.

Having said that, the last time I saw Mr. Bill, in 2019 at Tavares, he proudly showed me on his cell phone his trophies.
One trophy display cabinet was Bristol Only.
All the other trophies including St. Louis were displayed in another cabinet.

To me this illustrated how much Bill valued winning at BRISTOL.

Any race course that had any kind of right hand sweep or dog leg was a challenge for drivers who were used to planting the boat and turning left. Some drivers would "jab" to the right (like turning left) and would scrub off their speed. I figured out how to use my knee to "lock" the steering wheel for a gentle arc, keep the speed up and pass these guys in the process. You had to be careful in a dogleg because this technique required the use of all racing lanes to make the sweeping arc. Just because a sea wall and RH turn are there doesn't mean you hug the shoreline? (Bristol) Any race event like Bristol, Paris, Pittsburgh, etc were great for spectators but a nightmare for drivers. The wakes would richocet off the sea walls and docks and make a choppy soup. If you could get on top off that mess and get over it was the trick. If you raced at any of these sites just finishing the event was an accomplishment in itself.

Just an even fire crank in the x flow v6 would have given it a longer performance life.

Yes, and I can add Amsterdam, Cardiff, London, Antwerp, Rouen, Lyon and even Stockholm.
A raced them all. Only one I really loved was Paris.

My two favorite places for very high top speed races was Idrocscalo, Italy (best by far)
and Holme Pierrepont, UK. (second best)

'm not sure NASCAR will survive in the next 24 months after the Daytona 500 circus and this tariff business. Sponsors are all slipping away quietly. Race teams are declaring bankruptcy and "stock" cars aren't even close to being a family driver. More like NHRA funny cars on a circle track?

Spent a lot of time with the 89 crew at Daytona, great group of volunteers, Jim Sauter the driver. Team located in Plymouth, WI. There’s no way anyone could afford to enter the 500 today with the NASCAR rules and $$$. Sad.
