More racing 1975. My #1 Piraya/Evinrude Hustler was also extremely fast.

With help of Christer Helin as the co-pilot we won the UIM E class in the famous offshore race Roslagsloppet 1975

    X & GT 115 Mid

1974 OMC made a new engine for the UIM SE class. Much better and faster than the 65 SS
It's not only the gearcase but the entire mid section and clamp bracket for an X/GT 115. I guess OMC got around the UIM rules because enough X/GTs had been made to qualify the 65SS as a hybrid? I wonder how OMC adapted the engine block foot prints?

Correct..the 1973 Evinrude/Johnson 65SS was a very special race engine for the UIM SE class.
OMC put lots of effort in to this..even a separat UIM homolagation. It was 100% legal in the UIM SE class.
You can see a few more things on my transom of the #99 Clerici. The Johnson picture you can see the shift level on the mid section. (Dieter Schulzes boat in Paris 1973)
OMC mainly did this to beat the Carniti 65 HP..this Carniti was superior for a couple of years in the UIM SE class.

I was the lucky driver putting the 1973 Evinrude 65SS in the winners circle at the big race in Finland 1973.

Here is a report from Italy of the big race in Finland I won with the 65SS 1973.
Not sure what the read is but the Italians racing a Johnson 65SS was very upset after the race..but I have the trophy..

This is from the inspection after the big race in Finland 1973. One of the two Bonvicini drivers (#15) 65 SS gear-case was modified with extra drilled holes for the water pick up.. to me it was not an issue because I was faster then him with the approved gear-case.

The 1966 Orange Bowl Regatta 9 Hour race single engine outboard class was won by an Evinrude V4. That motor had a lower unit that looked a lot like yours. I think it might have been a prototype and they were not sure it could go the distance so they strapped a spare in the boat with tools to change it.

I always wondered if any one knows why the 727 looper never made it to production. I saw a dyno sheet one time that said 300 plus hp at 6000 rpm of course this was probably in racing trim.

    Maybe this was one reason..!!

    Jim Nerstrom

"First time out for the 727 was not a good experience, lots of piston sticking problems. Tommy Posey was so frustrated he ran his engine until he put a rod through the side and almost cut it in half"

"The Crew referred to this engine as a 727 which was a reference to the project development number. It was also known as the “Tractor” motor referring to it’s stump pulling ability.
    It did not like RPM’s
