Yes Einstein , I do. Try filling out a handful of work orders, quoting the price, getting the OK and a deposit. Ordering the parts and then finding out half of them are on backorder. When they do become available .. they are @ a new price level.
I shouldn't need to waste more time explaining to you that I need to call the customer and tell him if he doesn't believe me .. go price shopping himself. Or that it takes a job out of rotation, while taking up floor space.
I mentioned the carb motors because of what they cost .. back in the day, as opposed to what the same basic motor configuration costs to day .. or up until that stopped making them .. seems to be right around 487,000%. i can tell your libby azz ain't from the south .. since your clueless bout country boy jargon ..

    A basic FourStroke 225 has a list price of $22,930. Add $2,945 and a 225R would list for around $25,875. Still $695 less than a basic 250.
Very logical, thanks. Merc uses there existing parts bin and assembles a 3.4L V6 225 R with Sporty and prices it at $25,875 MSRP with 3 years of consumer warranty burning 87 Octane.

How much mark up is reasonable for parts? The auto industry charges about 10 times their production part cost for a service part. At least that was true for the parts I worked on.

Ok one of you elders need to take the youngster to your skreeechy chalk board for an education

Assume that Mercury WOULD sell a 225 R from existing parts. If Cliff Consumer had to "advance" order one and provide a $5k deposit, how does trade in value for the lower unit that comes with a V6 225 play a role whatsoever? How does parts mark-up play a role whatsoever? Perhaps the owner of this site asks Merc a couple questions but I doubt it as he has not fixed the typo and has said nothing on his article topic. Here is what even a Merc bean counter might like..........

Your Mercury dealer takes the 225 R order, takes your non-refundable deposit and puts the build into the system.

Merc pulls an existing lightweight cowl off the shelf from the 200 APX ..... check
Merc pulls an existing V8 fat chop Sport master off the shelf from the 300 R ..... check
Merc installs a set of solid mounts into the 20" mid from the V6 ..... check
Merc installs a remapped ECU from the V6 to bump horsepower to 250hp ..... check

Mercury Race assembles the above and charges you $25,875 with 3 years of included warranty.

Mother Merc tells your favorite dealer that the order will ship in three months but OF COURSE they are full of **** and lie to the dealer and you get your new V6 225 R 250hp motor in 6-9 months. Cliff Consumer anticipated Mother Merc would yank the dealers chain so does not care about the longer delivery and upon installation starts filling his new 225 R with 87 octane and sends his dealer a thank you card for dealing with Merc.

Lightweight cowl from the APX would not be an option, they are full carbon and extremely expensive.

You start talking about remapping ECU's, you steer away from your point of "off the shelf parts". Everything else takes time and money and I will ask you again- who is lined up to buy a 500+ lb V6 that would be maybe 100hp less than a 300R?

Short answer; Nobody. Just like when the 2.5L opti was available at 240ish HP. None of the 260/280 crowd wanted to down power to save a few bucks in fuel. I was one of them. Since there is a TINY amount of small go fast hulls being built for 225hp, why on earth would Merc waste their time making an R motor that low of HP? Ain't it funny when people think stuff is just "laying on a shelf" without allocation? Lol

The 200XS ROS didn't sell well. It was more money then a 300XS and had no warranty.

…and it wasn’t 2006+ emissions compliant; that’s why 2005 was the last year of a bunch of Merc consumer 2-strokes.
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...
